    Imagine trying to use the defense that you didn’t value the baby as a person. No shit, that’s why you’re being sent to jail.

      It’s quite scary how she thought that would work.

    • @nochannel1q2321
      @nochannel1q2321 18 днів тому

      The defense was that because of her mental state at the time that she didn't make the connection that it was a baby at the time. While she was convicted it's possible she did have such an episode as the lack of emotion and the statements she made about removing the baby from the toilet and putting it on the floor and stuff are all pretty consistent with not having formed emotions about the situation at the time and not perceiving the baby as a human.
      Not saying it's necessarily true, but I think the reason it was rejected is that American juries have a tendency to think that accepting a plea deal, seeing it as a soft option for the crime without considering it as a -possibility. IF, for example, she was in the state described, she would not have been able to make decisions based on right and wrong at the time, which for legal reasons would make her not guilty by reason of insanity. She'd be sentenced to an indefinite period in a secure psychiatric hospital until such time as it was determined she had recovered sufficiently that she would not be a danger to herself or others. If that's a personality disorder (they can't be treated), that would mean a full life sentence without the possibility of leaving.

      @@nochannel1q2321 Yeah I know, but it’s still a terrible defense. First of all, who’s gonna take a child murderers word that they just had a random one day bout of psychosis that was responsible for killing her baby, very convenient. Her tone during the interview does not at all convince me; I’m not against abortion, but there are so many pro-choice women who take it beyond the right to abortion and straight up just hold no value for a babies life. She could be right up there with the woman chanting, “F*** them kids,”. The second reason why it’s a terrible defense is because as you mentioned she could potentially be locked up in a psych ward indefinitely. Also she didn’t take the plea deal, she rejected it to plead not guilty by reason of insanity which is what the jurors rejected; she should’ve taken the plea deal if this was her only defense considering the plea deal was 15 years and now she has to wait 20 years to even be eligible for parole.

    1:55 you don’t even have to go to a hospital in my state. There is literally newborn baby drop off boxes at every single one of our fire departments. You can have that baby at home, drop it off at a fire department without having to be seen and without giving your name. There are no questions asked. They are alerted as soon as a baby is dropped off and they take care of the baby while medical help is contacted and on their way, and after being evaluated at the hospital, that baby will be fostered or adopted in a day or two. It’s that easy.

    I'm with Gaynor, I would open the bag. I lived in a sorority house in college. It's not like an apartment, where there are individual units and you don't know your neighbor, it's communal living, and this is a really small school, so it's probably not more than 12 girls living there. Maybe it was still warm when they picked it up, or maybe it was leaking. I'd open it if only to know who left their trash outside to say something to them. BUT I also find it hard to believe no one woke up or knew any of this happened in that house.

    This is so bad. There are many things to do if a girl has a baby but doesn't want to keep the baby. They can take the baby to a hospital or fire station or a church and just tell them the situation that she can't keep the baby and then let the baby live and the baby would be adopted to a good family. There is no excuse for killing a baby, none! The total disregard of hers and to kill that baby is horrendous. I loved being pregnant. Had all 3 boys within a year or so apart in the 80s. I remember coming out of my church in Las Vegas in the late 70s and saw pamphlets on what an aborted baby looked like and it showed the babies being ripped apart. It was graphic. I already knew even before that that I would never ever abort a baby. I did not believe in that. I was so against it and so adamant about my feelings that I thought if I were to get pregnant and say the doctor told me there would be complications were I to continue my pregnancy like I may die were I to carry to term I still was going to trust God and not the doctors and just see it through. I could not kill a child ever. God is the giver and taker of life I believed and if I died while giving birth then so be it. I just trusted God more and my strong beliefs about the sanctity of life. I did marry and had 3 healthy beautiful babies. These type of people are disturbed in their minds. They do have options. Some people use abortion as a form of birth control. I just can't fathom those people and what they do. You don't kill babies! Adoption is a way to save the baby. There are other ways to handle these situations and saving the child.
