Welcome back to another Creature Feature! This creature feature is all about the Burmese Python (Python bivittatus), and features one of our rescue snakes. Bess, the python in this video was entrusted to us (Danny and I) when his owner sadly passed away. Bess is SUCH a gentle snake, so please don't be scared of him.
Also - you shouldn't really handle your snake when they're in shed, but Bess made a disgusting mess of his enclosure and I had him out anyway, so I took the time to film this video for you, and I hope you find his eye pigmentation really interesting!

Hey Creatures!! Welcome to the first of my Halloween Creature Features! *Hissclaimer* Usually I would advise not to handle your snake during shed, but Bess did the most gargantuan poop, and I had to bring him out for cleaning anyway and I took the chance to shoot this video with him to show the masses how amazing their eyes look when in shed. Bess's eyes will always look blue, even when he's not in shed, because hes exceptionally old, and this old man has cataracts in both eyes.
Anyhow, I know this message won't deter the masses from going 'OMG HES IN SHED - LEAVE HIM ALOOOOOOOONE', but I've said my piece about this and Bess has now happily shed his skin and is currently chowing down on his lunch. He's so sweet and wonderful, and he's one of my rescues. He's been with me since January this year. :)

When I was a kid my neighbors had one of these snakes that they named kitty. When asked why they would name a snake kitty they said that previous neighbors they had would become very uncomfortable finding out such a large snake lived next door. So when they got new neighbors who would want to know if they had any pets they would tell them they have a kitty. I always thought it was kind of a funny story.

Bruh same, everyone wants to kill snakes for no reason, I've rescued garter snakes from people who thought they were poisonus, yes I know venomous, but rem uneducated people?
@@Matthew-cd8iv growing up we always had gartar snakes in the back yard ( not pets). My friends and I would lay on the ground. The snakes would just lay on us and soak in the sun.

Yeah, I lived around them most of my growing up years, and I learnt that they are very picky. So all these stories about goats wanting laundry for breakfast or a tin can for lunch are a crock. They like leafy plants, rose and hazel bushes, tree bark, your veggie garden... but not fabric or metal or anything of that sort. That was the "everything" I meant when talking about the urban legend.

Whilst my neighbor was moving he found a rattle snake during the process. He thought “why not keep it?” He didn’t have the proper housing and fed the poor thing crickets only. Yes CRICKETS. The snake ended up dying because of this. I’m still so mad over it 😡
Thats horrible sorry that happened. But a rattle snake hope they were careful and didnt didnt end up biten. but still interesting

The urban legend literally made no sense. On so many levels
Yes the snake was a male. The snake never bit the owner. The snake slept every night in her bed. The owner didnt know snakes can go months without eating. And then on top of it the snake wasnt even hungry and that why it wasn't eating but a full snake wants to eat the owner

I have a true story about a snake. I'm italian so this will be hard for me to tell in english, but I'll try.
My beloved grandfather fought in ww2, but he was captured and he sadly had to spent seven years of his life as a prisoner of war in South Africa. They were in a camp and a certain day they woke up and they were told that they had to move. He had an old folded piece of fabric as a pillow and when he lifted it up he found out there was a viper under it. He had probably spent the night with this lethal snake under his head. Everybody wanted to kill the animal, but my grandaddy told them that they should let him live and go, just like the snake did with him... I was a little girl but I remember how proud of him I was... still miss him every day.

Thanks for the explanation about poison and venon... because it does not make any sense in my language, here we use the same word "veneno" (Brazilian Portuguese) for both cases.
I was looking at how that circular light reflects to your eyes in a different way the it reflects to the snakes' eyes. I didn't realise how much 'out of the head' those eyes are. Really cool.

I think the problem is that the snake is in shed. this means there's a milky secretion over her eyes, in between her eye and the scale over her eye, making them appear blue and foggy. this helps them shed their skin(like I said, they actually have a scale over each eye, since they can't blink/have no eyelids.)

I am fully aware and I knew that they aren't measuring people but... does anyone actually know why they do that? Heat of human body? Humidity when we sweat? Or maybe the fact that they get used to us so they trust us more and come closer?
Just the body heat usually, I betcha if there's a snake that's actually laying out beside a human it's gonna be on a cool/cold night when there's not many other sources of heat in the room. The humidity helps somewhat but not enough to really truly make a difference, and the trust aspect is there but usually it's just warmth

Compared to the Burmese pythons on Chandler's Wildlife, I'm amazed at how calm and friendly Bess is, even more so because he is in shed. The trust shared between you both is so evident by how close you both get to one another's faces without any sign of fear or hostility

Em! Nice snake! I love animals, especially the ones you feature in episodes! I have a huge heart for them! I saved 3 baby chicks from down the rail where there's water in the bottom in the rodes that you can see the water. I don't know how to explain it, but I called 911 to save them!
