I can't think of a better way to start the day than a few cups of hot coffee and an awesome Diesel Creek video. Thanks Matt, That grader is going to be a sweet machine.
When I was a kid we lived on a gravel concession road here in Ontario. I used to love it when the Champion grader would run down and take out all the pot holes. The township would also use them for snow plowing with a v-nose and a wing. Amazing versatility and power. Love your Christine videos, keep them coming!😀👏🏻🇨🇦
My Dad ran a Galion grader for New York State for 20 years year round. From snow plowing Interstate 81 to chasing water in flooded areas impeding traffic flow. Best days for me was when l got to ride along.
Wish there was a second thumbs up button , love to see progress being made on Christine . Appears she's sleeping as she did you no damage in this round . 😉
Funny thing happened this lunch time, after watching Christine get new boots yesterday. Her French cousin Fifi, dressed up in an orange number pulled up in the car park next door. Looked exactly the same, if not a few years younger. I wouldn't have known what type of machine it was if DC hadn't been restoring one. My wife asked me what it was and was astonished when I said it was a road grader. Thanks for the brownie points Matt, regards from Brittany France. Enjoy your videos.
Good job. Yeah, those needle scalers get the job done and then the sandblasting just makes a good job look better, cleans up the painting surface. Well done Matt.
Enjoy your mother’s worry. My late mother was 20 years and about 2-1/2 weeks older than me. (I’m the oldest of six.) I used to joke that I was her belated birthday present. She was a widow for 18 years, dying just before our respective 81st and 61st birthdays. Up till the last, she still called me worrying if something she heard about on the news which happened near where I live (220 miles away from her) had affected me, my wife, or her grandchildren. It’s been five years. I still miss her. Enjoy your mother. She loves you.
Do the rims have to be Galion? Can't they be pretty much any old rims with the same dimensions? and wouldn't such rims be almost as common as the tires?
Kim Pulsipher....... Not sure I understand your comment... what do you mean by, "for his part of the restoration. Couldn't have done it without him. Thank you for your help." This is Matt's machine and his own restoration...., So ??? Did I miss something here? Is there someone else involved in this, that I haven't seen in any of the videos of this restoration? Thanks.
I like the part where he sold the Galion to that smurf that lives behind yonder shoe, happy are times where mayonnaise is without trays and pillows under falsehood pan-tangles. Made as much sense as Kims comment... 🙄
I've never messed with "split rims" but I have a time or 2, needed a bead breaking tool like yours. 😉 Now that I have "Scoopy" running, I could use the bucket the same way.
When I was a kid I used to see a lot of plant as my dad was a civil engineer, these graders always looked like the coolest machines to me, not sure why, probably because they’re so long and unique looking. Good job Matt 👍 Big thanks to the kind gentleman who gave you the rims, real hen’s teeth there.
Well it's a good thing you didn't press record for the "cold start" of that Ford, it would have added another half hour to the video! LOL. Love the sound of that guy's loader !!!
Every time I thought of something to suggest, you came from the back end and suggested it yourself. I'm gonna get picky and say that I would have used the needle scaler on those rims first. I'm more the type of person to remove the crusty rust first and not worry so much about the tight surface rust. A coating of aluminium paint will get sucked into that type of rust and stop it in its tracks. Great content and look forward to more.
Matt some fluid film liberally applied on the locking rings, warm up with a heat gun to get it to run in to the faces in the rim perhaps before they get cruddy and rusted? Will help get it all apart i'm sure when the inevitable flat occurs.
I’m so glad Christine is going back together. Maybe you should put a radio in it and when it starts playing by itself old Christine will just reassemble itself and when I say playing by itself I meant the radio!
I drove a H-50 at work, on the hottest day of the year we would use the glow plugs before starting it, and take two football fields to turn around. LOL Matt please don't put your finger between the tire ring and rim use a big screwdriver or tire tool. Kobelco Tire Changer! Get that Killer grader of your's working and stay safe!
In one of the last mechanics shops I worked in i got to change split rims and truck tyres. There is an art to it. We did it the hard way with a proper tyre removal sledge hammer. This takes effort and accuracy. LOL Once you separate the rim from the tyre you can remove the lock ring. Now what you do is drop the ring from waist height onto the concrete and listen. It should ring as it hits the concrete. If it doesn't ring its cracked and should be disposed of as its not safe to use. I've had a 20 inch truck tyre explode on me in a 3 pipe tyre mounting cage as it hit 80 psi. The cage jumped a couple of inches off the ground. It was a used tyre supplied by the customer for his own truck. Unseen sidewall damage. I nearly had to change my underwear. it got the heart going and left me a bit shakey. I found the best way to put them together was to inflate the tube in the tyre to 4-5 psi with out the valve and let the air out and install the rubber rust band. This centres the tube and stops it from being pinched. Then line up the valve with the rim insert it and then the outer part and lock ring. and inflate to 5 psi and check the lock ring is seated properly and deflate. Then put it in the tyre cage. Check it again and inflate. The airline had a fitting that locks onto the tyre valve so you don't have your hands near it. Then there are earth mover tyres and thats another entire saga with even more dangers.
"You can't fix stupid..." I'm waiting for that time when you're so proud of how well the big roller works, that you decide to do a Diesel Creek intro with it. Wooooonk, woooon......crunch. Oops. Christine sure is lookin' purdy. But keep an eye on her.
You scared the hell out of me puting the tires on those split rims!!! You should've had a safety cage for them. or don't you have a problem losing your head! With that being said I do love your projects!
Congratulations Matt :) also yes happy got newer rims plus tires on CHRISTINE also looking forward when get more videos to work her and looking nice paint up too !
That's more than 1500 kilometers for those who live outside of the US. Roughly the route from Kyiv to Berlin, which many people have to deal with these days.
Matt you should have put the 4 rear tires on bass ackwards and left the fronts "proper" because more wrong means more comments. All in all this cursed project seams to be coming out nice looking .
Years down the road when civilization is reviving from complete melt down ... archaeologists will be trying to decipher what it says on your excuvators bucket🤣😂🤣👍👍 I like your work on your channel Matt,I always appreciate your content... How is your church remodeling going...?
Hey Matt, I know you have a million projects going on but was wondering if you ever thought of selling the old church property you bought? You obviously are busy and with the real estate market going crazy I wonder if you ever considered unloading the church property. Be safe. Stanley in Md.
I'll be taking a 14 hr round trip to Rhode Island ( furthest north I've ever been ) to pick up a Yale electric hoist, Lincoln and Delta rebuilt motor with 2 brand new gear reducers next week that I won for $30. $100 for the van rental and say $150 for gas I should come out ahead. It'll be for when I build a small shop to repair/restore cars and trucks as a hobby. Unless someone sticks a wad of cash at my forehead and says hand 'em over. lol.
I can't think of a better way to start the day than a few cups of hot coffee and an awesome Diesel Creek video. Thanks Matt, That grader is going to be a sweet machine.
100th like
Yup.
AND Christine looks great in those new High-heeled shoes!
Amen to that!
I’m finishing my day with an awesome diesel creek video, and I can confirm it is just as good
Add in a nice joint, maybe a sprinkling of tramadol 👍

Really loving this build! Had a summer job driving a JD 570 (modern then in the early '70s) with NO cab, grading county roads in the Texas heat.
Good job.
Yeah, those needle scalers get the job done and then the sandblasting just makes a good job look better, cleans up the painting surface.
Well done Matt.
Good effort Matt.
Every video is getting more and more enjoyable.
Keep it up buddy.
Done my share of sandblasting. Brings back too many BAAAD memories of day after day of miserable work.

Can't wait see Christine finally working again
Looking good Matt.👍🇬🇧🔧

i just binged watched chfistine restoration i enjoyed it very much ty matt
👍making good use of the equipment you have, Matt.
That's a nice "needle scaler" you've got yourself there :)
One thing I like about Matt's videos is that, even when things go wrong, he doesn't let fly with a string of profanity. :)
Not on camera at least.

Hello Matt, split rims, yea I had some on my 1953 3/4 chevy pickup
Mounted tires a few times on that a few times, a lot of work but always fun.
I love to see you work on that mechine
I wish the world was filled with people like you that have the passion, because maybe we would not be a throwaway society
Anyone else notice the ice falling off the shop's roof at 1:17? You can hear it too. You can't get anything past us Matt. Lol

I will be so glad when you fix that dang cracked manifold lol if we were neighbors I would have fixed it for you by now
Thanks for sharing!
The wheels look really good, Also Christine is shaping up nicely.
Great video Matt👍👍👍👍👍
Matt you need one of those laser machines that literally eat the rust right off just by waving a wand across a part
Looking good 👍🏼
I like your tire machine Matt.

that really looks nice!
Great early morning time lapse with the moon in the sky, WAIT....That's no moon!!!!
While I’ve never worked with split rims I have used my dirty old ‘hoe (40 year old Case backhoe) to break the bead on regular rims. Works a treat!
good job. when you finally get it going, christene will be a great addition to your equipment inventory.
Those dogs are the same as used on the front axle on any road truck that has Dayton style wheels.
Christine looks... 👍👍👍
Should have gone to Skander tire in Evens City to bust them off .Good vidga !
You are doing great, even with out the correct tools, great job on the tires.
Lets vote on this... who can afford Matt's tire removal service!!!?!? GREAT JOB!
i see that you have a old simplex jack seting out in the snow
Yeah that's the Shell ethylene cracker plant by 376.. I've delivered there many times and to there warehouse in Aliquippa Business Park
awesome. great job .
Dear Matt so you have 2extra spare rims right as you save the front already done looks great
You can cut these tyres with a grinder lots of smoke but it works, I even cut tractortyres.
Lookin good man!
Marty T is disappointed that you threw out those perfectly good tyres. 😀
Yay, wheels!
wow ,that's so cool
You scared the hell out of me puting the tires on those split rims!!! You should've had a safety cage for them. or don't you have a problem losing your head!

Well done Matt, always a joy to watch 👍👏💯👏
Congratulations Matt :) also yes happy got newer rims plus tires on CHRISTINE also looking forward when get more videos to work her and looking nice paint up too !
