    Made my 1st 1 piece slim yesterday. I'll use your tips to improve on that one.
    Thanks. Good video.

    After making about 30 acrylic pens both slimline and cigar. I finally got round to making two wood pens today. I have a stack of wood blanks and I noticed your one piece. So I sat up and I am now paying close attention. Thank you. Bye the way the first thing I did was buy a pen press and a pen blank drilling vice so treat yourself when you can afford it.

      Thanks for checking out the video! I still need a pen drilling vice, but I have gotten a press and it is a gamechanger.

    I saw a nice tip for ca finishes. Instead of using a towl use a piece of plastic. It doesn't absorb the ca and you get a better coat

    I love that idea, my only question, does the mechanism sit in the wood tight enough to not drop or fall out easily?

    • @jq71
      @jq71 3 місяці тому

      The twist mechanism slides inside the upper brass tube. It's not dependent on the wood to stay in place. It's secure

    How difficult is it to pull the insert out when you need to replace ink? Does it become ‘wobbly’ over time?

    Excellent excellent video!! You may want to consider losing the bracelet. Small detail. A question; I cannot find a rating on those kits as to quality I assume that some are better than others

    I see alot of pen makers drilling there holes by cranking the tail stock, pulling it out, pushing it back in and cranking the tail stock. Actually once the hole is started all you have to do is push the tail stock from behind and will drill easy.

    Just discovered your channel. Pen looks good very nice. thank you for sharing on how to build a one piece slim line. Will the same process work for a pencil? Thank you.

      As long as it is a 2 half twist pencil then yes. You might need to alter it a bit for other kits

    Did you measure the blank? Sounds like you just eyeball ed it I'd like that dimension

      The downfall of this design is that you can't. It is a single cartridge pen.

    Very nice indeed, thanks for sharing. What is that dark patch just by the nib? 👍👍❤️❤️

      Thanks very much. I believe that I 'burned' the CA finish a touch by not having enough water or applying too much pressure during the sanding process in that area. I'm not exactly sure.. this was one of the first ones I had done like this and enjoy the process.

    I am loving these tutorials for slimline pens. I never liked the slimlines as they seemed too flimsy. I had all but given up pen making because of the cost. I'm not selling them and 12-15 bucks for a pen kit just got to be too much. You guys are giving me some good ideas for one piece and wood center band pens. Thanks a bunch! One other thing, on my completed one piece pens, they seem very difficult to twist. Are yours like that, too or am I doing something wrong?

      try strongink (dot com) - much better prices for pen kits, though shipped from China (20-30 days, etc.)

    Only problem I see is how would you change the ink cartridge

  • @tonywells5454
    @tonywells5454 5 років тому +1

    Although you didn't glue the nib unit in place, you have to pull it out somehow to fit a refill. Have you tried this or are you treating it as a single use disposable please?

    • @ROLLINGWITHTHEMORGANS
      @ROLLINGWITHTHEMORGANS  5 років тому +1

      Good question. Since the mechanism and the nib are both pressed into the same brass tube, when you pull the nib out the mechanism comes with it. This allows you to change out the ink and then just re-insert the hole apparatus into the pen.

    • @ROLLINGWITHTHEMORGANS
      @ROLLINGWITHTHEMORGANS  5 років тому +1

      @@tonywells5454 yes. It is easy to remove and insert. I have changed the ink cartridge 3 times in this particular pen and have done 4 pens like this, all of which were easy to change the ink

      The idea behind this video was to instruct on making a single piece Slimline. I didn't want to add a bunch of intricacy and design out of fear of making it too complicated.
