      Khanh Nguyen Yes you know its senseless to start a nuclear war when you know you will be destroyed too

    • @rachelg785
      @rachelg785 7 років тому +1

      vann ted: I think Putin's point still stands... the balance is the ability to strike, the ability to strike first, the ability to be effective, and the ability to destroy the other side's ability to strike, strike first and be effective - but both sides possessing these abilities. You're taking a soundbite and imagining it's the whole story. Go listen to more of Putin elsewhere... he knows.

    • @rachelg785
      @rachelg785 7 років тому

      I don't think it matters... these details are insignificant and irrelevant. If the US takes out the actual weapons, or the ability to launch them, or the person that can authorise or implement the launching it equals the same thing. If anything, should you be correct, Putin is probably just summarising and making the threat simply easier to understand for the average citizen.

    • @rachelg785
      @rachelg785 7 років тому +1

      I still don't see how any of these details moot Putin's point. He's wanting to protect his country's ability to defend itself effectively. To go around saying, 'oh, everything is fine, there's not threat to our weapons... it's just if they take me out there might be a problem with defence' would be a VERY BAD STRATEGY, don't you think? It would paint a target directly on him. In avoiding these details, if even true, he increases the urgency in neutralising the threat of NATO, and demonstrating how the threat would affect everyone. His version and yours are only slight degrees apart... and fundamentally paint the same scenario.

    Nothing new in history. Charles de Talleyrand, minister of foreign affairs of France warned Russia that Napoleon want to conquer Russia, as result Russia had time time to prepare. The same was with Hitler, Germans warned Stalin already after first (!) secret meeting of Hitler with establishment where he already proposed to conquer Russia in future, so Russia had a lot of years to prepare (war was started yearly than soviets waited, btw for that time USSR increased army and moved thousands of factories to deep of country). The same was and with well known Cambridge Five, british heroes who transferred to USSR information about encrypted german messages and that saved a lot of lives (Britain itself not share that information with USSR), also they reported about negotiations of Churchill with Hitler and as result was prevented ally of UK with Reich.
