MSFS | Headwind A330-900 freeware - Major Update plus Throttle Calibration Tips

- The Headwind freeware project team has just updated their fantastic, and very popular A330neo for Microsoft Flight Simulator in what is an awesome major update!
There's a LOT on the changelog but it includes:
Wing Flex
New Wings
New Engines
New exterior model
New interior items
Some of the new funky Condor liveries that have gone viral worldwide
integration with the flybywire systems from stable 0.7.4
and much more!
I'll show you some of the new animations, and the new model plus I'll show you some new features, show you how to calibrate your throttles and show off one of the new Condor liveries too!
You will need to make sure you update all of your A330-900 liveries too as the older ones now won't work properly due to significant model improvements and texture changes to things like the engines. Fantastic work by the Headwind team, thanks to your contribution to this great community!

Hows the Auto Pilot? Is the ILS working?
@@keaganmaguire6613 autopilot is nice but it will try and mess you up in the arrival as it'll go direct to the runway in the STAR which is not good but otherwise nice and ILS is fine 🙂
Wow, they made some good progress. My first impression when I first used it a while back was just some FSX model with the FBW cockpit slapped onto it. Now it feels a little more on the same level of Salty 747 or HD 787 except it's built from the ground up. After seeing this, I had a flight with it, and it was pretty good.
Good to hear 🙂 it's much better to use nowadays but sti watch for direct to and Approach mode on the mcdu
@@BritishAvgeek Yea, I use the dev version of FBW and the A330 does feel a little behind on features. Fix info is pretty useful for me in particular.

They've made some great progress with the modelling and systems, cant wait to see where this project will go.
I feel that the wingflex still needs a lot of work. It's good that it is native MSFS coding but it still looks very segmented; a large wing like on the A330 needs multiple segments, at least 7-8 to look smooth and have a realistic curve. Wings flex along their entire length, not just at the end like seen in this model.
Anyway I've notified the Dev about this so I'm sure they'll take the advice onboard.

After holding back from MSFS due yo lack of addons I gave it and this bird a try yesterday. A couple things I noticed and if anyone knows a fix that'd be great. 1) I can't find how to import newest AIRAC data. 2) it does not know NAT waypoints. I was doing a flight KATL to LEBL and the first NAT waypoint I think was 40N60 or something like that said it was 4000nm from where it was and started turning me west back toward Boston. It did this for all lat/lon waypoints. 3) the parking brake issue with GSX.

Indeed, great progress too and fantastic they're trying to keep it up to date with fbw stables. Imagine this with automated holds next time! 😶
I have the thrustmaster Captain pack, and the throttle is not calibrated. I already try to calibrated the throttle of the a339, but is not working. Do you know why?
Hello! I just downloaded this aircraft today. The throttle seems to be calibrated perfectly for me. Only issue I’m having is the flaps are reversed on my quadrant. Flaps 0 on my quadrant is flaps 4 in the cockpit. This is the only airplane I have this issue with. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !
I love Ospery Livery. Always beautiful...And condor livery just makes me laugh lol
Glad you like the Osprey livery! 🤣 it's an odd choice from Condor isn't it - it hurts my eyes, but then in the sim it looks fairly nice in an odd way
glad about the throttle calibration. for me it was broke before and could pretty much only use reverse thrust
Now you can tweak your throttles to how you need them 😁 enjoy!
Can't get the Throttle work properly. My climb detent is the Idle and when I go to Idle I'm already on full reverse. I have tried everything, install update of TCA/ recalibration but everything is messing .Can you help ?

disable the reverse on axis button in the efb calibration perhaps? could help fix it

Thanks! You mean the liveries? You need to update them as the model has been changed
I cannot feel the tank with fuel. When i use the sliders the system automatically goes to 2 percent. Have you the same issue? Thank you
What are you using? The EFB or the UI drop down menu in the sim? If it's the latter that's why it's being problematic
@@BritishAvgeek I found out reading the comments. In this case i used the tablet in the cockpit in the left side to change the amount of fuel and worked.
Hello how do i fix the autopilot for the a330-900? When i turn it on it just goes at random directions. Or sometimes the gps goes off.
It could be a number of things so really tough to identify the cause. Could be out of date, or a mod clash, or user error etc
An accurate cockpit model and it'll be complete
thankfully the dev team seem to continue to improve the addon so fingers crossed!
How does the calibration work for Xbox controller? It keeps flying to toga.
I get the loud external sounds and wind noise when I use the wings views, is there something wrong with mine or is yours okay?
Mine are as noisy as you saw in this video - not sure if you're setting it up in the same way
Left in open climb, it struggled to get past FL310 at 300kt IAS. Managed to get up to FL390 only by winding back to 0.75 Mach for remaining climb. Did you get that? Otherwise, a flyable larger plane for longer distances, though not on VATSIM as I'd be out in the garden for most of the cruise!
Not sure what the climb performance is supposed to be for it but would have thought M0.74/0.75 was probably about right
@@BritishAvgeek I agree, it's just that I didn't research this first and hoped / expected that the figures which the "plane chooses" would get it up to the cruise. I'll pay more attention and not go and make myself lunch the next time it's in the climb!
And the landing lights ... very bright when the camera is close into the plane but disappear when the camera gets about a plane length away from the nose!
glitched for me, it doesn't show any of the screens when I go through the checklist, and even if I spawn on the runway. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Have you tried deleting the aircraft folders for the a330 and install it fresh?
any idea how to put in the flight plan to MCDU because i tried a lot of times still cant load the simbrief into MCDU even i have linked the simbrief

@@nicksin1129 check your Simbrief username/ ID number matches and click about in the mcdu to see if you can find anything because I'm not sure
I absolutely love flying this, did a couple of test flights and only big problem I found was the ZFW page kept having a negative fuel and time balance, had to enter a lot manually to try and get it to make a bit of sense, maybe you could do a video of a set up flight I might pick up what I'm doing wrong? 🙏🏽
Ah that's just a bug I think, I remember it being in there before too with a negative EFOB at Diversion

last time I tried to fly this I suddenly lost all power (including the landing gear) except for basic flight controls at fl390. ended up crashing short of the runway at Melbourne. surprised i even made it near an airport to be honest. still not sure what happened lol

@@BritishAvgeek nah, this was a while back. been doing circuits at EGNX with it today and it's been so nice. got a -47fpm landing, so im pretty proud of that lol

I dont know but i had a couple of flights and i had some issues withe the MCDU the flight plan page gets frozen at a certain point of time especially when you do a “direct to” otherwise it is a huge development

What control sensitivity settings do you use with the A330-900 within the sim?
General sensitivity settings? I've had them unchanged for many months - a slight curve with 10% deadzones for aileron/elevator/rudder
Have downloaded yesterday and trying to find a few hours to give it a flight. Did you find it a better experience than B78X, or just different?
Been distracted by a couple of Ospreys flying west overhead this morning (Bell Boeing V22) and a couple of Apaches going east late this afternoon! I didn't know that our tiny village had such an air force!
Should have thrown the Osprey Airways stickers at the pilots 🤣 I'd say they are almost at a similar stage but the A330 is a native model so more can happen going forwards with it 😁
how about the rudder? I got problem with it

@@BritishAvgeek How about the gps? When I start the plane the gps work. But when take off sudenly the line off the gps its gone. And operator say must enter the squack number
@@BillieRacing Hi, how did you solved your rudder problems? I got problem with it as well. It's always either left or right but never in center no matter what.
@@milanbogar9937 hei. Turn off the rudder assist. It will be fixed. And bind the nose wheel in the controll setting. And it will be fix 👍
Do you think Is good or Better to use the A320?
It's not as advanced as the A32NX development and experimental branches but this update for the A330 is a significant upgrade over the previous package and it's remarkably enjoyable to fly

i dont have the same screen as you on the flypad
so its not working
It might look different but the principle and the way you need to calibrate is the same. Frequently videos go out of date when more features change so you'll just have to find the new location of the setup page

Did you delete the entire headwind a330 folder and install the updated one fresh?

I can't calibrate mine, even though the sim detects my throttle, the FlyPad doesn't seem to, so i cannot calibrate, anyone know how to fix?
