@Luis Você tem que ativar a legenda em português na engrenagem, senão não dá certo. Se estiver usando o youtube em outra língua não ativa o português também. Ele disse no início do vídeo que habilitou a tradução automática do youtube, portanto deveria estar funcionando.
Compartilhar por que só pra ver a empolgação dele e não enteder nada do que ele está falando, ele deveria ter a legenda em português, deu para perceber que ele pirou na letra mais gostaria muito de ler o que ele está falando.

bro by "contract HIV from a dog's mouth" they meant that amongst the prisoners some of them had HIV, and the dogs killed so many people that they maybe passed the HIV around the bodies. this shit creeps me up to this day, its one of the most intense lines ever

This song, Diário de um Detento (An Inmate's Diary) was released in 1997. The lyrics are based on an actual inmate's diary, a man called Jocenir, one survivor of the Massacre. This Jocenir actually wrote several of the rhymes in the song, and he was friends with Mano Brown, the group's frontman. He wrote a book with the same name when he got out of prison telling his story.
The Massacre of Carandiru happened in 1992. The Military Police was sent inside the prison to quell a rebellion that had started and they shot and killed 111 inmates in cold-blood, most of them inside their own cells. According to reports and testimonials, the inmates were, naturally, unarmed, and they had given up their homemade knifes at the request of the prison's warden.
The commander of the operation was Colonel Ubiratan. For commanding the massacre, he was sentenced to 632 years in Prison, but this sentence was (unsurprisingly) overturned, as he claimed he was just "following order". The same happened to all the other 74 officers identified as participants. They were condemned in Court, and later their sentences were overturned. None of them went to prison. In fact, 58 of them were actually promoted afterwards. And six of them are still active in the force to this day.
There is also a movie about this event, it's called "Carandiru" (released at 2003)
The carandiru film is as good as the film Cidade de Deus

Mano Brown or any of the other members never went to jail. The song was written by an actual Carandiru's inmate. He was an old man, who used to write letters for other inmates who didn't know how to write or read, so they could send them to their families. He went to Carandiru a few years later from the genocide, but writting the letters of traumatized inmates made him gather enough info to write the song.
*The author was put in jail because of his brother. His brother used to sell stolen merch. With his wife pregnant, he needed a better car to take her on a trip. When he went to get the car, the police was expecting his brother, but he wasn't there. The police thought it was him, so they took him, even though he said it was not him. His brother never confessed or tried to take him outta there.

111 deaths was the official result given by the authorities, but according to a police reporter who was there after the event, there was a pile of bodies that stretched to a certain distance. he said he did a quick calculation by the height of that pile and the distance. according to him, they were much, much more than 111 dead.
How can someone believe more in a pile of bodies measured by eye than the simple math of total of registered inmates before the event and those remaining after the event?

@@leodebrito5894 it doesn't need to be only the politice to do the math, any jornalist could check the prison documents to find out how many inmates there was before and just compare to the actual remaining.
In 1997 this song came up in the CD called "sobrevivendo no inferno" (surviving in the hell). This disc changed the Brazilian music and inspired a lot of new singers who are famous today.

U say these jails have big cells?? They put around 20 ppl for two or 3 “beds”… and they have to respect the ones with Higher grounds in Crime Industry. Those cells might seem big, but they don’t respect the number of inmates and just lose them up as if they will fit any how!!

There is no words to translate the importance that Racionais MCs have to the hip hop culture and brazilian culture as a whole. Its hard to a foreign listener understand, even with subtitles, how deep, raw and true are their poetry and storytelling.
Just to catch the big picture, imagine if the most iconic american rapper group, like Wu Tang, got miles and miles above anything in the scene, and now imagine if they could do it deniying to be on TV Shows, MTV (for most of their carreer), big labels, and such. They was trully from streets and lived the reality not only when they was unknown, but also after get famous. You dont see it happening in US, thats why its even harder to understand how real Racionais are compared to american rappers. They never embraced the mainstream, but the mainstream curved to them.

It's important to know that more than a half of this lyrics was written by a guy that spent a time in jail by mistake. This guy used to write letters for the inmates.

The Public Security Commission of the Chamber approved this Tuesday (2) a project that grants amnesty to military police officers prosecuted or punished for their role in the Carandiru massacre. In all, 111 inmates died in the massacre, which took place on October 2, 1992 in the prison complex that was in the North Zone of São Paulo. The police entered the place to contain a rebellion by the prisoners.

The part that he says that someone will contract HIV from the dog's mouth, is referering from the dog biting lots of inmates, the blood gets passed from one to another by the bites. That's what he meant, BTW this music was released in 1997, and was adapted from a real inmate diary.

Mr. RDiss, First of all, thaks for your sensitive video reaction. Here, in the outskirts of some big brazilian cities, "dog's mouth" could mean many thigs, but most of them are about the evil, the devil, the death, sometimes associated with poverty conditions.
Esse presídio que eles gravaram o clipe e se passa a história é o Carandirú. Ficava na zona norte de São Paulo e tem muita história triste. Ele foi desativado a 20 anos e tem um filme chamado "Carandirú", é um filme inspirado num livro que o médico do presídio escreveu sobre o lugar, é muito bom, assista se se interessar. 👏

Watch a movie called "Carandiru" and you'll understand this song. It's a real history. Mano Brown got invited to play a soccer game in prison, once there and middle aged man in prison liked to write poem and music, so the prisioners asked Brown to meet with him and the man gave this song to him, Brown didn't like to sing things he didn't create himself, but this time was an exception and after release the song all the money he won he gave 50% to the midle age man, but to find him was so hard because he was transfered to other prison.
The song was recorded in 97 and the videoclip one year after

Diário de um Detento was realeased in 1997, the song was written by a inmate called Josemir Prado, "THE" jOCENIR and the guy just gived the lirics to Mano Brown. Ears later Brown give's back all the rights to Josemir, BUT the guy never showed up his face to the society. (BTW Brown talk about Josemir has a poetry guy on jail, he had studied and everything)

That image on 14:46 is a real record of the fact, the dogs were biting the inmates to make them get back to cells, before the cops starts killing them. A lot of the few survivors were tested with hiv virus later.

this prison no longer exists, it was demolished after the killing of 111 prisoners, the carandiru was the largest prison in latin america with almost 10,000 detainees. It was demolished if I'm not mistaken in 1992.

This lyrics were written by an actual inmate called Jocenir form a prison were the Racionais were visiting. Other inmates introduced him to the vocalist, Mano Brown, as someone who wrote great rap lyrics. He gave the lyrics to Mano Brown and I think they splitted the rights. His story became a book also.

Hello there, RDiss. In my 11 years working as a CO in the state of São Paulo, I can assure you cells that "big" always come with a caveat: the state will try to fit as many inmates as it can inside of them. The largest cells I've ever seen had 8 beds and an average of 26 inmates each. Nowadays I work in a psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane, so most cells can only have one inmate, while a few dozen larger cells can accommodate two without any trouble.
With all that said, it feels great to see someone who did time and is leading a good life now. As a CO, one of the worst parts of my job is seeing the same people being arrested again and again, especially some guys who seemed so focused on putting all that shit behind them. I don't judge them because I have no idea how hard their lives must have been and I didn't know much about them besides the short conversations we'd have once in a while. In a world full of piece of shit COs, I've always tried to make a difference by treating inmates with respect, and earning theirs not by imposing my authority but by showing them I'm just an average joe who needs to get by just like they do. It hasn't always been smooth sailing, but I did the best I could.
