I think it was Paul, Paul’s wife, Paul’s wife’s boyfriend. My theory is, it started with Paul and his wife at first. They worked together to expose Mary. But I think Paul then took it too far, and went after Ron which his wife did not appreciate since that’s her brother. And the last straw was Ron’s death. So then Paul’s wife upset because of her brother’s death (caused by Paul).She brought the boyfriend into it and decided we gotta get rid of Paul. So they set up the trap to frame him and get him locked up for what he did to Ron. There must’ve been a reason why they kept Paul locked up even though the letters kept coming, they must’ve had evidence that he was involved, beyond his gun being found, possibly his handwriting matched previous letters. And I think he did not rat out his wife because she possibly had evidence that Paul caused Ron’s death which would give him a higher and worse sentencing so he kept his mouth shut and accepted the punishment he already had. Also I believe that’s why she also kept going after the Sheriff, she wanted justice for her brother since she knows who’s to blame for his accident. But she didn’t turn in Paul because she knew if she turned him in, she will also be turning herself in since she was also involved in the letters. So then Paul’s wife just divorced Paul and continued the shenanigans with the letters with her boyfriend.
No because why wouldn’t Paul snitch after she got a boyfriend as pay back on them?
@@revivalofnutrient in my initial comment I said that I think Paul didn’t snitch on his wife and the boyfriend because they possibly had evidence on him regarding Ron’s death (the car “accident”). Remember Ron was super pissed on the phone and said he knew exactly who sent the letters, and grabbed a gun and left.
I think he was referring to Paul. I feel like he wouldn’t have that same energy towards his sister.

Did they ever look into the superintendents family? Cause i think thats a missing link. They should have looked at all the superindents relatives.
With the way law enforcement just completely skipped over that, I think they could have been purposely overlooking him
the letters aspect reminds me of 'the watcher' on netflix, also based on a true story
Overall? Eveyone did my boy Paul dirty. Rest in peace to Ron, and I hope the kids ended up okay.

When you are to focus on one thing, you tend to missing everything else. What about the sheriff that was stated in those letters? What about the authorities who told Mary that his husband drunk driving?
In this small town, people see everything and talk about it. You think Mary scandal with the superintendent can be hide? Where can they hide? Mary's home? At the school?
It's like Paul was just a scapegoat for somebody. And maybe I missed something, but who told the story about Ron going out looking for somebody that he probably knew after getting a called, before the accident happen? Did his children told the story?
