A serial killer is defined very clearly and it's quite simple. A serial killer has killed 3 or more people, on 3 or more seperate occasions. For example, if you were to go into a bowling alley and shoot 12 people all at once you would not be a serial killer, you'd be a spree killer. But if 12 seperate times you broke into peoples houses and killed them, that would make you a serial killer.
I think of a serial killer as someone who has committed a series(3 or more) of murders on separate occasions. The killer would usually have no ties to the victim and killings usually follow a similar pattern that would allow law enforcement to tie them together. I think someone who kills multiple people on one occasion would be a considered a mass murderer and not a serial killer
@H Gotta disagree there ... i think a spree killers are more like mini serial killers. More than one killing, usually in more than one place. A killing spree could go on for days or even a couple weeks maybe before it's over. The big difference is that a serial killer could operate for months-years and return to their normal lives between killings. A mass murderer is someone that kills a large number of people on one occasion, usually same location. Like school shooters, the unibomber, etc...
My mom worked as a correctional officers assistance in the same prison as Aileen Wournos (they were her last months there) and Aileen would threaten , attack, flip off, and spit at male staff, but was ok with the females. What's crazier is that she warned them to never let any man near her because she would delife them because she hated men.
I only saw the movie once and I was disgusted by how it portrayed Wuornos as a victim. Patty Jenkins had said that she wanted to humanize Wuornos but in the process she portrayed the victims as something they were not. Only one was a known sexual offender and the others were well-liked, caring and generous. The only reason people get overly-excited about Theron's performance is because the make up artists managed to make the beautiful woman into something very ugly. Her performance was fine but nothing spectacular. The make up artist should have won the Oscar, if (s)he didn't.
In my humble opinion, I think a serial killer is someone who kills multiple people at different times. I think a killer who kills multiple people at one time is a mass murderer.
@@mysecondaccount2954 True. I just wasn't exactly sure of the clinical definitions of both terms at the time and didn't wanna sound like an idiot if I was wrong lol.
Several other people have given excellent definitions of a serial killer but to clarify a little more, there are other types of killers who have killed more than three people but had other motives and are given other classifications (ie, gang members and killer-for-hire/hitman).
My understanding is that a serial killer is someone who killed multiple people over any period of time. Someone who kill all at once would be more of a mass murderer. To use a concurrent example, Dahmer is a definite serial killer who killed over time. But the dude who shot up that lgbt Pulse Nightclub would be a mass murderer
Years ago I used to work with this guy at a fast food restaurant. Some years down the road i bumped into him again at my new job. We're catching up and having a laugh. About a week later... I see in the paper he got arrested for a murder he committed 2 years prior. My jaw hit the floor. He used to be such a good kid.
My "spider senses" or gut feeling saved me from being rape when I was nine year old. I never told this anyone but that UNCLE of a friend of a friend almost groomed me. One day he offered to give me some fruit that is abundant on his garden, (which I really like as a kid) in exchange of coming back on the afternoon, which as a naive kid, I did. He led me on the back of his house where he proceeded to kiss me, I didn't know what he was doing, I just stood there. I didn't know how much time had passed then he asked me to come inside his house because there are more fruits there, that's when my "spider senses" or gut feeling started to scream at me to dis agree. i said no, but he still try to ask me again, I said no and move away. He tried calling me but I just ignored him, still focusing on running away and never look back. I would have reported him to my parents but in my community, VICTIM BLAMING is rampant, and even as a kid somehow I knew that even if my parents believe me, the community will defend THAT UNCLE as poor defenseless man.
As many have said, a serial killer is anyone who kills at least a set amount of people (usually 3) on different occasions. That extends to hitmen, gang members, mobsters, etc. That is to say that the statement “there are 2000 active serial killers at all times” does not immediately translate to “there are 2000 Bundys/Dahmers/Gacys etc”. Those are the types we more closely associate with the phrase “serial killer”.
To me a serial killer is someone who’s murdered atleast 3 or more ppl on different occasions. And like specifically stabbing them or using any other way to kill them except like shooting , cause personally I don’t look at a shooter who’s shot and killed more then 3 ppl as a serial killer
@@KiddandCeeReacts idk much abt that situation , so I would say their still killers cause they shot and killed ppl.
