So apparently the spirits thing is used to clean wounds, basically like rubbing alcohol , so ,maybe she had already been dead around the time they had the fight, when he saw her not responding she was already deceased maybe he didn't realize it, but it is dark how he told the younger sister she wanted to reconcile. Think about it maybe, they stayed in the house for so long they get used to smells so nothing smells off. I honestly think the family believed in her vision and didn't question her genius intellect.

Mental illness has resulted in all kinds of fantasies and delusions. Not that much of a stretch to believe they believed she was still alive. The fact they dropped their whole lives just to dedicate to their sister makes them sound like they weren't all there.

I would agree but at least with Takahero, he definitely knew she was dead, because he lied to her and said she wanted to reconcile. He came up with that not because she told him that but so he could avoid the issues that came with her death

Maybe the sister felt that her genius / visionary soul was so profound that it needed to preserved for the ages to come so the best way to do that was to mummify herself literally and I believe that she must've kept written instructions for the brother someplace and the next phases in the " masterwork" would be for the entire family to actually turn that room into an Egyptian like tomb and build sercohpagus to put her perfectly preserved corpse of the mummified sister in and actually start worshipping her as an artist deity of some sort.

This was a wild story. I knew something was definitely off when the brother mysteriously took over and they started rubbing her down with the alcohol. I thought he killed her at first and he just went crazy, pretending she was still alive

This is a story that has me dumbfounded. Like the family was under a spell, and they couldn't stand up for themselves. Her big project was her own death. This is wild. Almost like none of it makes any sense.

Your comments were hilarious, something to consider is the cultural aspect (Japanese culture, you don't raise waves, you conform, keeping the peace among family and society is the most important) and the family had a kind of Stockholm syndrome, wasn't the brother very young when the older sister came back, seniority is very important in the culture and she knew that she could brainwash her brother to carry out her will. They were not charged because there is no point, they didn't have the intent to harm her and didn't have the mental capacity to see reality. Forced mental help is only available when they are a danger to others or to themselves, and they are not looking at these known specific circumstances.

It definitely reminds me of the concepts of "folie à deux" and mass hysteria: you're in an isolated environment with an individual that suffers from severe mental illness, and in trying to accommodate them, you begin to buy their delusions. What's kind of glossed over in the MrBallen's video is that about twenty years elapsed between her coming back from Cambridge and all of this, so that's two decades of progressive mental health deterioration. It was gradual, sneaky, and dragged the whole family into it.

I think the only part that makes sense to me is the fact that they were all mentally ill, from the mother who played no part in her childrens' lives, to the two brothers who just sacrificed their dreams, social life and basically everything, to cater for their youngest sister, who from the get go was far gone. Supporting your family member to succeed is one thing and being locked up in a house with nothing but a belief in a master work that you don't even know its nature is another, and for decades is just too much. It was not even one year or two. They all cannot stand trial, but one thing for sure they should not be able to live normally among society, there's no way you live through something like this and come out of it normal.

Getting help won't really matter because their mental disorder prevents them from realizing their family member is dead like their awareness on that particular information was blocked, therefore they can't be sent to asylum because they are not crazy, and they didn't need specialist help because acceptance wasn't an option for them as they believe she is still alive and well. They are trapped in their reality of she is alive and kicking, so no matter what you tell them about it they either ignore you or feeling annoy/upset about it.

I knew she probably had mental health issues but it was never really discussed, I am not sure but she was losing weight and the mention of only the soul makes me think she needed to sacrifice her body to make this art come to life or something.
maybe Rena had Persecutory delusions or paranoid schizophrenia, paranoia psychosis , or something.

I have a feeling something spiritual or a possible evil spirit possession became attached to Rina and turn her into an abnormal person that forces and comands her own family into believing that shes doing a masterpiece when in reality she's most likely doing some Evil Spirit type sht. Idk man i feel like she was possessed or something and whatever took her over, made her become some kind of supernatural being and her family basically became her slaves or minions and made rules for people to follow that most of them lost their potential for their future and all focus on Rina. And made the family become weird by hiding themselves from society that they be avoiding conversation and avoiding from being seen cause they be hiding their faces....like wtf kind of Cult type sht was going on
