Try this: Put rice in a large “Paellera” if you don’t know what it is, search on the internet, then put the laptop on the paellera with rice, leave it overnight and the next day, make paella (Paella: traditional Spanish food) Yes I’m from Spain
Lol I did this with my own broken DS Lite, using it from the video you found. I only did that because I botched the soldering the points, and didn't know what to do. That was my last resort, and somehow it worked. Still works actually. Something I'd be careful of is this: Be careful of which of the directional pads you use to bridge the gap between each point. Use one of the pads that are under the ABXY buttons, as if you take it from the D-Pad, you'll have one of the D-Pad buttons not work. I accidentally took it from one from the D-Pad, and not from the ABXY buttons, so I kinda screwed up there. Thanks for the tutorial!
I just bought from eBay a DSL macro with no soldering or a light bar. I’m pretty convinced the owner just ripped the top screen off and believe it or not without soldering you can still get it to work mine powers on with no soldering of a resistor or a light bar as long as there’s a GBA game in there it will power on, but mine also doesn’t have any volume From a speaker
I wonder if you can just put a small wire with tape on the same spot? Or even hot glue it? As the black contact button is the same thing right? Does it heat up or something?
hey I bit wonder how you put neon bar on the macro like in Your.purple neon bar. di You used acrylic rod ?.which diameter ?.3mm ?.and how You manage to solder the cables for the led ?. thanks
Yes. I personally prefer to remove the entire touch layer of the screen when building these and it works fine. You may or may not want to add a lens if you do remove it, but if you aren't shoving it in your pocket or anything, it'll be fine.
hello brother, I did everything right and my nds lite worked with this method, but I wanted to know if it is safe to leave the nds like this with the rubber and not with the soldering method, can my nds burn in the future because of this method?
Just done this mod with zero issues build wise but when trying to power on I get green power light then nothing? Any ideas? Black button not engaging maybe? (Although the tape was solid and secure when I put back together)
Other way. Take top screen apart. Take rubon with led out. Put top screen rubon back on. Fold rubon right behide the screen. . Take pin holder out. Have 2 sided tape for the speaker. . Video on youtube .
I just made a nintendo ds macro, and now when I try to switch on the device (even with a gba car inserted) the screen flashes once, and the system shuts off. please help.
I don’t know if you’re still alive, but I have questions, I really want to just snap the top screen off and go into the settings and change the game into auto and have it display on the bottom screen, can I just do that or do I have to soder stuff? I really don’t care if it looks ugly. I just don’t have money for a Game Boy advance.
@@JakeSimmons so I ripped off the top screen, and I did everything in the settings correctly, when there’s no game in it, it should just flash and turn off right?
Thanks, this worked for me! Question: The green LED turns on, but no orange light when plugged in with the charger, is this normal? Any way to check if the battery is charging?
@@JakeSimmons Thanks, I took it apart again and found the EM10 chip cracked. It might have been when I was trying to get the wifi wires out =( That aside, Kapton tape worked better for me. The electrical tape just didn't stick very well.
It’s very sensitive sadly. You have to get it lined up perfectly, make sure it doesn’t slide around, and make sure it has enough pressure just not too much pressure.
hey hello cool video simple to follow, but i got a question when u turn the modded ds on will it still have ds menu pop out or it goes straight to the gba start up. hope u read this thank you.
@@JakeSimmons ok so i have this other question i hope u know the answer to. so i bought a ds lite macro that won't turn on except i pulg in a gba cartridge, otherwise it just automaticly turn back off. is there a way i could turn it on and have a ds menu pop out ?. thank you.
I have a DS lite where the touch screen doesn't work because the P6 connector is broken do I have to replace that connector in order to make a macro like will it still work if I don't have that plugged in?
@@JakeSimmons so I don't have to have that ribbon cable connected? I just see people reconnecting them and all the videos. Thanks for the reply I'm definitely going to make it now have a good one
@@JakeSimmons yes that's what I'll do. I took the speaker from a broken 2ds I just need the resistor. I'm going to try and take one off another board or just order off ebay

Thank you for this video. I thought I broke my ds trying it before hand with no videos. That rubber and electrical tape trick saved me big time. 😄
Tutorial unclear laptop is now in two pieces...
Did you try turning off an back on again?
Just solder a 330 ohm resistor and you'll have a working bottom half of a laptop.

P.S. I use duct tape instead of electrical tape, because I don't thing electrical tape sticks good enough :D
Nice video! Great that this even works haha!
Trying to get my hands on a used inexpensive DS Lite to try this out. And a fellow Pittsburgher 👏🏻
Check out Mercari! Also I’m actually an Oregonian but go Steelers all day baby😏
@@JakeSimmons I'm in Oregon:-) cheers friend let's grab a beer
Ok but can you maybe go into more detail on the button contacts thing?
There's a 3rd way to do this, it's basically keeping the top screen ribbon cable along with it's LED lights and it works
Yeah I tried that and it didn’t work for me :/
When you don't have a tri-wing screwdriver

tutorial unclear, I now have a boeing 747
I wanna try this so bad now since my DS is broke at the top.

Modding can go hand in hand.
Um when you said you would cut out the nub for the a b x y buttons don’t you still need it ?
The gameboy advanced games only use the A and B out of those buttons
I wonder if you can just put a small wire with tape on the same spot? Or even hot glue it? As the black contact button is the same thing right? Does it heat up or something?
I tried using the “y” button trick, didn’t work, I’m going to try taking something out of my sp and just solder it
I also have a soldering tutorial on my channel!
Will any rubber work? Or does it have to be butyon contacts from the ds?
I honestly don’t know
Any should work since it's just meant to bridge the pads. It's meant to trick the DS into thinking the top screen is still there.
Anyway to do this without tri wing screw driver?
Trust me, save yourself the headache and just get a tri wing screwdriver, there's no real consistent way to unscrew one without it
Did you reshell that ds? cause it looks badassss
hey I bit wonder how you put neon bar on the macro like in Your.purple neon bar. di You used acrylic rod ?.which diameter ?.3mm ?.and how You manage to solder the cables for the led ?.

Question, will this still work even without the digitizer ribbon cable plugged in?
I believe so but I haven’t tried it
Yes. I personally prefer to remove the entire touch layer of the screen when building these and it works fine. You may or may not want to add a lens if you do remove it, but if you aren't shoving it in your pocket or anything, it'll be fine.
i accidentally flushed down the rubber padd in toilet😊
Led stays lit, screen won't power on tho

It’s either not getting good contact with both points or the bottom screen isn’t plugged in all the way
Same.
Edit: I think that your problem is the chip on the back where you usually put the black cable
Other way. Take top screen apart. Take rubon with led out. Put top screen rubon back on. Fold rubon right behide the screen. . Take pin holder out. Have 2 sided tape for the speaker. . Video on youtube .

No. My latest video is an in-depth tutorial on the soldering way
Thanks, this worked for me! Question: The green LED turns on, but no orange light when plugged in with the charger, is this normal? Any way to check if the battery is charging?
It’s not very common for those LEDs to go out so I’m assuming you either have a bad charge port or a bad charger
@@JakeSimmons Thanks, I took it apart again and found the EM10 chip cracked. It might have been when I was trying to get the wifi wires out =( That aside, Kapton tape worked better for me. The electrical tape just didn't stick very well.
Any tips to get the digitizer cable back in? Mine came undone and I've been struggling for an hour now.
Just need a lot of patience and if you have any small tweezers to gently grip it that can help! Other than that it’s just frustrating
Why does this not work for me?
It’s very sensitive sadly. You have to get it lined up perfectly, make sure it doesn’t slide around, and make sure it has enough pressure just not too much pressure.
Ok so I tried this and when I got it to work, it would either flash a white screen then shut off, or it would hold on a white screen
Yeah it’s very touchy. Either not enough pressure or it’s not centered on the two points
I tried this and its all well but when I try to load a game the screen goes black
Yeah sadly it’s not the best. I highly recommend learning to solder and do the soldering way
what would happen if i just snapped my ds in half?
nevermind i shouldn't have done that lol, ill just do this mod
i tired the led contact thing. it doesnt work
