- The R36S is actually an incredible device for only $40. I can easily overlook any of its short comings when you remember how affordable this device is. Today we will be taking this device to the next level. This will no longer be a stock R36S but a SUPER R36S!! In this video we will be flashing a better build of Arkos OS to brand new, quality SD cards to replace the unreliable generics one we get with the device. We will also be loading it up with all our favorite games whatever way you like either a single card setup or a dual card setup. We will also show you how to manually add Boxart to this device because this device lacks Wi-fi and theres NO VIDEO ONLINE HOW TO DO IT MANUALLY. Someone had to do it and that someone is Javi :]. We will also spice up the boot logo and add some fun background music to liven the mood.

Hey guys, please dont erase your ORIGINAL Stock SD. YOU NEED NEW SD CARDS. DONT REUSE YOUR STOCK SD CARDS. Its seems alot of people are deleting their stock sd to reuse it and deleting the necessary dtb files. Please follow instructions so you dont have a bad time.
Also you NEED to use your own dtb from your stock sd card. Mine will not work for you anymore because the R36S has had hardware changes.
My handheld only came with 1 micro SD, is this normal?

This is the best video I've seen so far for someone who is complete newbie, all the other vids I've seen assume the viewer has some basic emulation knowledge, which is a bit frustrating. Keep up the good work!

When I first got my Orange R36S one of the first things I did was remove the back sticker. I trimmed it and put it under the battery.

Bro, you're a hero ! I managed to do this without any IT knowledge after my R36S with original SD card was not launching Pokemon after only few days. I even managed to get back my save.
One precision though on my experience on copying the BOOT files from original SD card : I had one additional file called "autorun" that does not appear in your video. Firstly I only copied the 5 files as in your video and it did not work (black screen when turning on). Then I also copied the file autorun and it worked !

Dope bro. Ive done alot of these things as well. Ive also changed the joysticks to swtich lite sticks ( to match my white unit), & added foam to quiet the buttons.

Confirmed working, thanks! Two caveats from my own experience; (1) under the dual SD card setup, some save states will not transfer over will cause the system to crash if the state gets loaded. The actual save files were still preserved though, and newer save states from that point on still worked. This might have something to do with emulator updates in the later revision of ArkOS. (2) The very useful search function was also disabled by default, but that was fixed by START -> GAME COLLECTION SETTINGS -> AUTOMATIC GAME COLLECTIONS -> and then selecting ALL GAMES

So little update. I tried jelOS, it was not very good, then I came back to this video and just went with your whole process lmao.

I really appreciate the video.. for me I may have to do a 1 card set up. This went well up until the second card. For some reason the second card does not show the files after I format it and swotch to it.
can overlays/screen wrappers be set for each system to fill the black space of the letterboxing?
Anyone have trouble with the second (ROM) SD card slot? I am formatting my new SD card to Fat32 but the R36S isn't recognizing the new card, says it can't find a properly formatted card. It still recognizes the stock card as properly formatted and working.
update ive fixed it i do not have all my consoles on screen but i did get the playstation console to appear on like in the video so im glad altho i only have that one i did go in scapper and used the box insted of simple installement and it worked now i have to do it with each consoles or only the ones im gonna use anyway

Lexar, San Disk and Samsung are all solid cards to use for storage.
Hi jacek im from malaysia🌟. I already follow all you tutorial step by step until the end and everything fine!! Your tutorial are the best i found. I use 2 card and work perfectly. I only left to download scrapper online using wifi adapter. but there was one thing i want to ask. I check the update in option and there was and update. Do it safe for proceed the update?

When you want to scroll through the games faster is there a way to skip to sections ie go straight to g or any other letter to get thru them faster?

hey i need help with my console, whenever start up the console there is no theme what so ever and whenever i go to ui settings theres no theme option to change it.
JELOS now oficially supports the Game Console R35S and R36S! An option to select your device variant is available in the "System Settings" menu.

Hey Javi, i got my new sd card and followed the steps. i got the boot logo, but it doesn't go past that, just a black screen with a little blinking dash ( - ) in the top left-hand corner

I updated via wifi and didn't get the new ArkOS boot logo which I really like. Could you provide that to download somewhere?
this was great! i also added some ROM hacks for NDS, Pokemon Heart Red. However the preloaded cheats for Heart Gold (they work) don't auto load for the ROM hack and i dont see an option to manually add them. Any chance you know how this would be done?

Question Re 2 card set up - After formatting the second card, do I need to flash/ install ARKOS on this card also? I cannot see the easy roms folder as following the above instructions this card has just been reformatted and is completely blank.

Ok so did everything to get it to a single sd setup, followed every step, but i played a little on the stock SD. How do i basically copy the games on that and saves / progress and put that on the new sd? Someone pls help
For me it never loads up and the files are flashed and all. Its just a black screen for me. I did the steps over 4 times and nothing. Am I doing something wrong here?

how did you take off trase of glue from backside after removing stiker?
everything went good on the pc steps but when it comes to put back the branded sd card and booting up for the first time it still loading for X amount of times and still stuck to that screen only that bars (-) shown on the screen like it’s about to have all the coding part showing in your screen at 15min30 but nothing happens what should I do pls help 😢

Question tho…how do you configure the NDS controls ? When I open a game the d pad doesn’t work …like Goldeneye I can’t turn left or right …the analog stick is mapped to the “stylus” … and the dpads don’t do anything …any help would be much appreciated!

when adding background music, how does the OS interact with it? Does it choose a random one? Loop, restarting the playlist every time you exit to the menu? Select a specific one in the menu and always refer back to it until changed?
update: ignore, figured it out on my own. Anyone reading this know that the background music is randomly chosen when you exit and randomly queues a new one when it finishes.
Is it possible to disable the option menu somewhere in the menu so that the left analog does not display the game menu after pressing it? Unfortunately, when I turn the knob intensively, I sometimes press it and menu frame appears, covering the middle of the screen...
Skraper is set to download metadata, but where does it go? How do I see it in Emulation Station?
im doing a single card setup, after the partitions im trying to transfer 50gb worth of games but the easy rom partition was only 750mb, how do i make it bigger? my sd card is 128gb
After flashing ArkOS into the SD card I only see the EASYROOMS partition but not the BOOT partition. Im following the exact instructions, what could be going on?
So I tried adding some of my own PS1 games that are in '.bin' form and they don't show in my games list.. the only two that DO show are the ones in this '.PBP' format... will only those types of files work for ps1 games?

@@JaviPlayRetro @F_Dot_ turns out I was using 2 sd cards the R36s didn't like... it was a Kingston 64gb and a Sandisk 64gb card... it worked with a Samsung 64gb card
hey bro, what if we copy the roms and bios along with copying the new boot files at once and boot it up? would it show any error or do we first copy the boot files and then boot the system and then remove the sd card abd then proceed with copying the bios and rest of the games? PLEASE HELP

I have 2 microSDs, a 32GB one for the system and a 128GB one for games, how can I make the system recognize both for games instead of choosing just one?

The funny part is I had this as a tip originally, but I felt like people already knew about how to do it.
So is there a specific reason why you'd want to install a new OS? Why not just keep the ArkOS that's already installed??
Arkos is the best OS for this device. Also the version of Arkos on the default stock sd is modified.

So if I want, am I able to just copy the ROMs from the original game card to the new micro SD card? I dont want to go searching for most of those games when they are already downloaded on the old game card
You can, but some of the ROMs it comes with don't work or are weird. Or at least on mine they were. Some games wouldn't boot up. Once I replaced them with ROMS of the same games that I already had then they worked fine.
Hey man, great tutorial. However, I've got one problem popping up. I got everything booted up, transferred my gba roms by copying over the gba folder into the empty one, and they run just fine except the sound just doesn't play. It is just a scratching noise. Main arkOS sounds still work just fine. Any idea what's up?
