At the time you posted this comment your car was 10 years old. If you’re complaining about a simple alternator going out on a 10 year old car, used car ownership isn’t for you.
I changed the alternator yesterday after watching this video. It took me about two hours because I didn't have a 15mm short socket in my box and was attempting bolt removal with a 15mm wrench. Finally, I borrowed a 15mm short socket from a neighbor and added a cheater bar to the ratchet to take the bolts off. Fairly easy, though, and my wife's Magnum is purring like a kitten today. Thanks!
I have a 2007 Magnum 3.5L There is a steel bracket connected to the top of the alternator which is not on the car shown in the video. It completely blocks access to the electrical wiring, and makes it way more difficult to remove than shown here. Also, the top 15mm bolt is seized in and not budging. An open ended wrench or small socket is all I can get in there, and right now, I'm S.O.L.
I just did my 07 Magnum..I had to put WD-40 and then heated the threaded bore housing with a torch (move the belt clear ). I had to use my lowest profile socket wrench then finger loosen it the rest of the way. The electronics have to be disconnected from below starting with the positive terminal then the clip. ( I know I am 3 months late but hopefully this helps another MagWag owner)
I started to re-install the new Alternator. Very difficult to pass it up from the bottom past a metal brake line and a rubber hose. Not able to hold it up with one hand and get a bottom bolt started. Tied a small rope to it and had my wife hold up so I could turn it properly to get both bottom bolts in. Gonna finish it tomorrow. Today, I was able to complete the repair. Total re-install time was 3 hours. This included an oil change. You may as well change the oil while you have the bottom engine cover removed. So for an experienced car DIY'er like myself, bank on 6 hours for a complete change out for the alternator.
I hope it's as easy as you made it look because I'm going to have to replace mine I guess because I lost all my power shortly after the battery light came on as well as other functions
This video poster said this is one one of the easiest & simplest alternators to change out. Hogwash!!! I have changed many alternators in 30 years. It took me 4 hours to remove. The three bolts were VERY TIGHT and VERY DIFFICULT to remove. The 13mm nut holding the 12V wire on was extremely corroded and difficult to remove. The electric plug was very tight and required a screw driver to help pry it off. Luckily it did not break. And I also had to remove a steel bracket that was not shown in this video, because I think it had not been re-installed after a previous alternator replacement. The bracket has to come off so you can access the wiring that must be disconnected from the alternator. Heading to NAPA now to pick up a new alternator. Will install it tomorrow.
I have a bar in the way but no other cars have I seen with this bar connected to the engine and the alternator. Is it even needed because it seems to make the swap more difficult
My 07 Magnum has a bracket at the top bolt, which connects to the engine block. It is a huge PITA to loosen and tighten the long bolt. Looks like this engine has the bracket removed.
Mine has brake stuff etc on the left, and you cut out the actually removal of the top bolt. I had to remove/push to side many things to get to it and the top bolt seems frozen. I can't get a solid enough grip on bolt with tool because of inability from the angle not being straight. Your video does not show all the steps so I give it a thumbs down.
I have a 2005 dodge magnum I put on a new alternator and have a fully charged battery but the battery light is still on can anyone tell what this is or have anyone had this problem
My '07 Magnums' s new problem. Thanks for video...never owning another Dodge for a while...

Excellent video! I have to change my alternator today and I was worried at first but not now. Very simple to do with your explanation. Thanks!

My car is the 3.6L Chrysler 300, do you think it'll be the same or at least very similar?

I don't suppose you can tell me what you used to break the bottom bolts free.

Do you know if this the same on a 2011 Challenger RT?
Can you do all from the top or does it have to go out bottom?
Guy at the CANT do it yourself junk yard gave me an alternator that doesn't have the same connector. Said it's for the same car but clearly not.
What are the torque specs for the 3 bolts?
Hey that little lip on the wire that goes to the alternator do it goes inside or face out side
What size are the bolts
will a dodge chrysler 300 alternator fit in a dodge charger?
Yes if both car have the same engine

I'm haveing same problem
Thanks bud
How many amps is that alternator?
160
is this process the same on the 2.7 engine?
No there’s a big support bracket right in front of the second bolt to get the alternator off making it impossible to loosen
@@brooklynprince8428 the braket is also on the 3.5 currently trying to reinstall the top bolt and having a ton of fun with it
Does the battery need to be disconnected in order to do this?
Yes
how do you remove the belt ?
Xavious Castro there is a tensioner pulley you pull to loosen the belt
Xavious Castro you can see in the begging he loosens the belt and moves it
What did you use to put it back on?

What a camera
I’m having a hard time taking the top 15mm bolt off
Did u ever get the bolts out? See my 2 posts about my experience.
Nope
“One of the easiest alternators” try a Chevy truck. Way easier and takes literally 5 minutes
The key there is that he said one of the easiest, genius christ
