Definitely looking forward to a second edition for ABS. It's a good way to give it a trim down to the essence of the thing and expand it in ways that maybe weren't possible before.
I want to get to PT, but it's not just yet. I want to do a full awesome version, but I don't want to do it as my first KS campaign, as it'll be too complex and I don't want to totally balls it up. I'm going to do something simpler first, and then use the experience to do Perilous Tales right.
I'm watching Mike talk, but I can't help but see him in the context of his room and the visual metaphor of his "design pipeline" it creates. You have the explosion of ideas flowing through his head into neatly packaged games. I'm sure this camera setup is 100% intentional.
Okay, the mildest of sad faces about the delay of ABS: Domination, but 2e is more than a fair exchange! Im very glad to hear that the economics are staying in - 'why is this fight happening?' is at least as important as 'what ships do I have?', if not moreso.
Glad you've decided to only do videos when you want to rather than what UA-cam expects. I hate that algorithms drive so much of our lives as creative freelancers - increasingly believe algorithms are antithetical to creativity. Looking forward to Billion Sons 2e!
Really looking forward to the Gaslands Boardgame and the new Edition of A Billion Suns even if its so far away in the future :D The Berserker "gameplay" looked for a second like a Demon Ship Board :D
It's on a grid, and it's sort of an arena, so the comparison is apt for sure. It's currently on a chess board (8x8) but that's just a convenience, I dunno if that's the perfect size for it yet.
Billion Suns 2ed fantastic. I personally think it's brilliant and love the concrete etc. Having ships jumping in and out from table to table just great. Feeds my mind about how space combat would be. But unfortunately I couldn't generate enough momentum in my local group. Hopefully with 2ed I can get momentum from pickup games, that can build into a full vision of the game. Also Mike I love you saying the difficulty 2nd album..
This is definitely a story I've heard before. The lack of 'sketch a list, buy and paint the ships you'll use' hurts the ability for it to catch a gaming group, so I'm going to try and fix that by providing an alternative way to play.
Oooh, I shall take a look. I'm very excited to play War of the Rings finally, just reading the rulebook has been a week's worth of fun and inspiration.
My first game was my prod rock album 😂 I'm already ultra hyped for my second game because I feel the engine has a LOT of promise, which could lead to a second edition of Anthems of War eventually
I have found that each game teaches you something new that you can re-apply to other games. I'm tackling ABS2 with so much additional experimentation and learning, and I'd bet the same would be true for AoW 2e too. :)
Soon! Soon... I want to get to PT, but it's not just yet. @planetsmashergames GLORIOUS INDEED! My friends and I love your games and the way you make your development process so transparent. Keep up the good work!
I'm keen to get my hands on a copy of the Hobgoblin Rulebook, but I can see that this has gone off sale now that the Kickstarter is shipping. Will this come back on general sale at any point? and if so, do you have an idea of when?
I wish I knew exactly when. I'm being told 'a few weeks'. The physical book is temporarily unavailable while the KS fulfils, but will be available again after that. I'm weighing up the pros and cons of selling my stock locally, the issue being that it might get to folks before the KS backers all have there's. It's a minefield!
i've played about 6 games of Billion suns over the past few months; the combat system is great, the different demands on players attention is good. I don't think the contracts that come with the 1st ed are that good. They require to many extra bits and can deliver a very uneven experience. I wrote my own instead. I would say to me, it does need a meta game beyond destroy the opponents fleet, most of the ships shoot forward in the main, that can lead to jousting if its just a get them game.
I appreciate this comment, and I can definitely see that the contracts in the book ask a lot from the new players. I think they deliver value for that faff, but its definitely faff.
My friend and I bought ABS but never played it because we felt that fighting / bringing a combat fleet was very much the path to losing. It look forward to seeing a 2E.

Looking forward to A Billion Suns 2nd Edition! Sounds like it deserves a narrative video or two in my channel :D

I am incredibly excited for ABS 2e
Awesome! I can't wait to get started on it. :D
Sounds like a productive summer. Cool stuff.
Fantastic update! Lots of exciting projects, looking forward to having a play and trying them out. Keep on trucking 👾
This all sounds exciting! Glad you gave a shout-out to the discord. I'm personally most excited for Rangväldyr though
I'm looking forward to getting back to that. It's really fun to play.
Product design process of Rad Pirates, yes please!
I've got 7.5hrs of rushes to work through, so will take a bit of time, but it's in progress!

9:25 War of the Ring is EPIC.
The RISK version of LotR is very good as well, so long as it's the bigger board with the full trilogy edition.

@@planetsmashergames You best believe it! I love the prototyping phase, so I'm happy to try things out until it works just right!
I was hoping to hear your hard work going into the amazing Perilous tales...but nothing :-(

Something something something Pit Lord nearly broke my game because it's a board game something something
I saw the cards, and then the last two games are Thunderroad and Roborally... not casual at all... I see the hint of what you're doing there... 😆
This may be an absurd suggestion but I would LOVE an option to play ABS on hexes.
Interesting. I shall note this down. Oddly enough, the campaign system I wrote back in 2019 was on hexes...
brrrr spaceships
😊
I'm really excited to hear about a billion sun second edition
Will it be in a hardback format?
Yes! Glorious stand-alone hardback.
