    I was hoping you would also address Katt calling out Shannon’s misogyny. Shannon said to Katt that you gotta treat women a certain way and talk to them with kid-gloves, and Katt immediately said “absolutely not and do you want to edit out what you just said because that’s not equal rights, sir”

      19:28 This was the first thing I peeped while watching the interview. I was like 😮 every three seconds with the bombs Katt Williams was dropping.. but I kept waiting for Sharpe to say something, anything to keep the interview going. He had zero follow up questions, zero hard hitting questions actually addressing what Katt was talking about. Katt had spilled some piping hot tea for about 30-40 minutes and finally Shannon asks him about where he grew up??? He wasn’t ready to match Katt’s energy whatsoever and you could also tell he didn’t want to stir the pot or piss anybody off so it felt like he played it very, very safe. He didn’t even have responses to anything he said half the time. Shannon just sat there mouth agape. He could have asked for receipts or something!

    Jessie, I Jamaican🇯🇲, but my whole life I've tried to inform Black Americans about Haitian history because, truthfully, the Rebellion is what kicked off the independence movement for the entire Caribbean and the Americas. Please continue to speak to your American audience about this history because I believe African Americans WILL BECOME formidable allies towards the solidarity that Haiti needs in order to become something similar to what Ghana and other thriving African nations have become. You are so important to this movement whether you know it or not. Much respect and love to you, Sistaaa!

      As a foundational black American, we are well aware of the Haitian revolution and we give Haitians their due respect for fighting and winning their freedom. However, black Americans are mostly focused on ourselves and our own issues with our people. We are trying to make a better future for ourselves the same way y'all are.

      @bittasw33ts3 I’m a black American and I think those of us with parents who made it a point to educate us about our history or those of us with the interest to learn ourselves do know about the Haitian revolution. I think what you said about us being allies in improving Haiti is great. Though we could all, as regular people, spend a life time just focusing on our issues in Black America, I believe those with REAL resources and influence could come together and make a difference here AND there. They could also provide some direction for those of us regular folk wanting to organize there as well. We can walk and chew gum at the same time. It just takes focus, dedication, and true care for our people throughout the diaspora, not just here. If we ever want to get tf, I’m sure we’d like a black, safe, modern, thriving country to go to that isn’t colonized to all hell and would be able to handle the influx of folks there. That takes some work. True pan africanism is what it’s going to take to free us all. The only to me concern is how would Haitians feel about a bunch of Black Americans coming in trying to make changes, even if we are coming in to support Haitian leaders? I could see how that would feel offputting to natives. It’s worth a try though

      @@NamasteInYourLane As an African: I respectfully disagree with what you express here about my brothers and sisters from the States. Please, kindly bear with me here to explain as I am able to. We, Africans from our motherland recognize that the health and well being of Africa depends on our brothers and sisters in the States. If not for efforts of our brothers and sisters from the States, Africa will still be under apartheid and colonization. Trust and believe me that Nelson Mandela would have died in prison if not for relentless efforts of our brothers and sisters here in the states who were putting immense pressure on their elected officials. That was when major corporations like Cocacola and many more pulled out of South Africa which eventually led to dismantle of apartheid. So, as an African, I say to our brothers and sisters here in the states (on behalf of Africans in Africa and outside Africa), we thank you our brothers and sisters from the States. Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King and others were killed for all Africans everywhere on the globe. Rosa Parks sat for all of us so we Africans can stand where we are today and tomorrow. We Africans are you (our brothers and sisters from the States) and I hope that you accept that you are us too. Thanks.

This situation is challenging, and I sense that those in positions of power may benefit from maintaining such divisions.

    One part of the interview that I wish people talked about more was when he confirmed the masculinization of Black women in media and erasure of dark-skinned women. Not that we needed confirmation. But Black women have been speaking on it for years and no one cares.
    People have been gaslighting us into thinking it’s all in our head or straight up saying we’re just not attractive enough. They would rather a “hard faced” light-skinned woman than a beautiful dark-skinned woman which is insane. They use dark-skinned Black men in dresses to portray us in the most disgusting way. Notice how it’s rarely ever light-skinned men doing this?
    The media is hellb3nt on making us feel lesser than and it has successfully been working. And I can’t put 100% blame on the White man cause a lot of Black men will also gladly disparage us. *Light-skinned and non-Black women are seen as a status symbol to them because the only way they would date these Black men is for their money and success*

    I think Katt was saying something much bigger about Tyler Perry... He was hinting that we give Tyler too much credit. If his actors are not put in a position to grow and run their own productions one day then he is in fact a gatekeeper!

    • @erinnmjones
      @erinnmjones 10 місяців тому +9

      Coming from the tv/film space, on a smaller scale, I would say that it depends on the actor on what they do with the opportunity. It’s not that Tyler’s putting anybody on, but giving them an opportunity. It’s up to them where they take it. David and Tamela Mann are famous, especially in the gospel world. Keisha Knight Pulliam and her husband Brad have their own production company. Viola Davis is of course, Viola Davis. These are just a few that have passed through and/or remain in TP Productions. Knowing some that have been on their productions and don’t necessarily have “a name”, they want to keep a check and continue to do what they love. Think of it like someone who works at the post office for 30 years and never gets/asks for a promotion. Some actors are comfortable there and it’s no problem with that. Some want more. That’s not up to Tyler or any other executive in Hollywood. Now, I’m not saying there aren’t gatekeepers, however to this point, Tyler Perry Studios may or may not be a launching pad. Also, I want to clarify that we have to audition and go through the same process to get cast for his productions just like all the others. It takes the same skill to get booked on a TP show that it does to book a movie/tv show for Steven Spielberg…ijs

      A24 was allowed to keep producing movies during the strike because they were paying their writers and actors well...can Tyler Perry say the same ?
      if you are worth 10x more than the average actor or director then you are a gatekeeper. that's just being objective

    • @erinnmjones
      @erinnmjones 10 місяців тому +6

      @@morethanyourbasics he pays industry standard like any good business man would. There was a time that he didn’t, so to your point, he needed to clean that up. I was booked for 2 of his productions. I got paid industry standard, on time, and I got to wear my natural hair. Also, I did say there were gatekeepers. His method is his own method and it works for him and his productions. Again, it’s up the actor/staff on whether or not they move on to do other things. Think of all of those soap opera actors that have been in the same role for 30+ years. Eric Braeden was Victor on The Young and the Restless since 1980. Ion think he’s been “gatekeeped”. I think he found a job that he’s comfortable with doing for 4 decades. This is just my opinion and I can understand, from an audience standpoint, why some feel the way they do about TP. Lastly, he didn’t shoot during the strike, he just shoots very fast. You know who else shoots fast in a similar way? Juniper Entertainment, they shoot all of those crime reenactment shows people like to watch, Snapped, Fatal Attraction, For My Man, etc. I’ve done several of those and we as actors are suppose to come hair and makeup ready. I’m just saying there’s more going on than the public knows.

Joumou is Kreyol for “Giraumon” in French which is turban squash. The nate parker and Jonathan majors situations are none of black women's business. You have black women feeling some type of way because it was black woman who was questioning nate Parker. So what?! That woman was doing her job. She doesnt owe Nate Parker anything. Nate Parker and Jonathan majors dont give a dang about black women. You dont have to wish them harm but you definitely shouldn't be emotionally invested in their success.

    Thank you so much for touching on the lack of journalism on Shannon Sharpe’s behalf. I was so frustrated watching the interview since he did not truly have any questions nor did he follow up with most responses.

    I disagree with Jess about Shannon Sharpe...I believe he had questions ready and a direction...but Katt came there with an agenda and blindsided him..& the rest of the world...so at that moment he had to just let Katt do his thing. Almost every sentence Katt said was explosive. Imo Shay was shocked and caught off guard like the rest of us. Plus he is friends with these ppl...it was unexpected & he froze cause he didn't know how to respond.

      Yup. Agreed. I think he could have had better follow-up questions, though. It might have been difficult either way because Katt seemed to go off on longer, sometimes dodging the actual question in order to, as you said, get to the point he had in mind. A journalist might have been more skilled at navigating that, which may be what she's saying as well.

      @@andreawillis6800 Yes but Katt didn't want a journalist because they were going to drive the car of the interview...that's one reason why he went to Shay Shay. I give him a pass cause I was at work and froze myself just listening....& I don't know any of those folk personally

    Jessie, this video is so on point. The situation with Nate Parker was ridiculous. The Birth of a Nation was a great movie. I didn’t know that’s what happened to him, but it doesn’t surprise me. They always send someone that looks like you to take you down.

    Shannon couldn't keep up or get in control of his journalism because the most high don't play about Katt! He is covered in the spirit and Its gone be hard for anyone to interview that man without him controlling the conversation. WE STAND!

    Exactly sis! People not paying attention to what he said all of them comedians responded and simply just attacked him individually not once did they refute what he said because they know he was telling the truth. This is what I noticed about black folks when they don't want the truth to come out they work on destroying your character and portraying you to being crazy and difficult this the same thing they did to Monique tried to make her out to be a liar and crazy. Jessie not lying about Taraji outcry affecting the movie sales because I knew a lot of people that refused to go see the movie because they felt like Oprah did Taraji wrong.

    Right on with that Mo'Nique treatment. In fact, Mo'Nique was the most poised and respectful to speak on it but her STRENGTH OF CHARACTER and her HUSBAND next to her was the problem... This tells us exactly how they see us, and we cheer them on and join in to fight their battles while under cutting our own. Well said!

    Those two index fingers when you sing those Haitian songs and dance take me TF out! 🤣😩😭😭😭😭
    Also a stand up special while sitting the f down needs to be a title.😩🤣
    Jess you covered a lot in this video everything from our own Haitians not supporting one another businesses , and how we desperately need to change. Now with the Katt interview which I can say Sharpe did double back on his podcast with Ochocinco and mentioned he had a conversation and it wasn’t really an interview but I get what you meant-he should have had a few follow up questions to those answers.I also love that you briefly touched on the Claudine Gay story. Well done👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I think it's unfortunate that this has happened to her and your right we should be conversing on it more, Harvard was disgusting in that article. Lastly if you do decide to do something in December for 2024 I would love to go and that would be awesome! Blessings and great commentary 🇭🇹 🇭🇹 🇭🇹
