whenever i hear this sound, it brings me nostalgic feeling to classics propliners like viscount, electra l-188, f27, or hs-748 that flew in my childhood...
This sound is very nostalgic for me. I used to find it creepy when I was younger, because every time I went to my local city there were always a lot of A320s flying over producing this sound, and it always sounded so eery. But as I got older it started to become more of a sentimental part of my younger years, and now that I’m older every time I hear an A320 fly over and produce this sound it brings back memories.
I'm at a local park mid-day on a warm, windless, slightly overcast spring day, laying in the grass. I hear this sound overhead. Nostalgia of days gone by.
There's something very nostalgic and comforting about this sound. I live in England but I'm half Swedish and i visit every year. I hear this all the time as we are on the main flight path for arriving, as they come over at about 2000ft, and i love hearing this sound seeing as it always reminds me of Sweden.
@@Przda09 A tiny valve opens up below the wing fuel tanks. As air passes over it, it causes the valve to howl, kind of like how you can make a glass bottle howl by putting your lips over it and blowing gently.
@@AirShark95 I also hear this when they fly over my house. Do planes do this on a certain distance from the airport? The airport is like 30 km from my house
These are actually caused by the FOPP (Fuel OverPressure Protection) holes under the wings; These holes basically equalize the pressure inside and outside the fuel tanks. When air passes over it at the right speed, it makes this sound
It is the FOPP (Fuel Over Pressurisation Protection) Valve hole of the Airbus A320 which makes that sound. The Sound is best generated when the plane is Approaching the Landingstrip of the airport due to the Angle the A320 has during approach. @@GottaGriller
This. This is what Ive been looking for all these years. Im almost 29 now and hearing a plane either late at night or on a calm day always makes me relax and feel nostalgic. When growing up, laying in bed at my parents house, quiet outside, a plane comes flying by at reasonable altitude, either a airliner or occasionally a military plane like A400M or C130 with their distinct prop sound... ahh just thinking of it makes me happy and calm my mind

During my childhood on summer I used to stay at my friend’s house for about 4/5 days. During the nights I’ve often had trouble sleeping because of this sound that always scared the crap out of me. Since we were in the middle of the countryside my child mind associated the whistle to some kinda monster of the prairies hunting down humans at night. Only several years after once becoming an Avgeek I found out it was just an Airbus flying by lol
am like 1 or 2 miles away from the airport so i am so used to this whenever i hear this i always know its very low and when it makes an howling sound i reconize that is an a330 coming with an low pass
My friend a long time ago told me that the whistle meant an engine was broken so everytime I heard it i got really scared bc i thought they were gonna crash
It’s a shame this noise is being phased out Airbus planes (319- 321) fly over my house almost every day as I’m under the approach path depending on the wind
Feel free to comment!
That howl was a FOPP howl (sorry if you already know)

Same! I grew up in New Jersey just outside Philadelphia, and flights arriving at PHL used to approach over my house. Very nostalgic from childhood
It’s sad because they are starting to put tabs on the a320 over the valve to stop this noise, Lufthansa has done it already
I always hear the planes with this kind of sound passing by my home in Los Angeles.

Yea, Doppler Effect?
@@happydays4563 no not Doppler effect
Whats is the reason im intrigued 😁
FOPP hole under the wings
I always just assumed this was some weird doppler effect sound from the engines, really interesting to know the actual cause.
