first time i installed mine of 2021 wrangler sport the engine was warm ,the next day i restarted the engine o ring was now cool i dumped all my oil due to it not being tight enough. i now mark the top of the new filter and count the turns approx. 91/2 to 10 turns , i made a tool out of a small rubber hose that i slip over the schrader cap as a tool to remove the cap.also had to make a adapter plate for the air compressor next to the filter out of a aluminum plate so the pump could be moved forward so the new oil filter would fit, baxter said thet hoped to be making a diff kit so the filter would fit . to install the schrader i used a long handle Allen wrench , put the Allen inside schrader and turned it on
You will still need to use the "clear flood mode" for your initial cold start of the day even with this improvement. Changing to 5W30 is going to be a worthwhile investment.
I installed the Baxter oil filter kit using the Wix 57045 filter on my 2023 Pacifica 3.6 5000 miles ago. Nice and quiet engine and no oil leaks. Will do oil and filter change in April.
Hold the brake pedal and gas pedal to the floor and crank. It will not start but cranking will pump the oil.
I believe that having oil available for immediate circulation will help mitigate wear due to dry starts, It was wonderful that you showed how much oil is kept from draining back into the oil pan. I agree with you to keep the oil pan at the required full level meaning that for each oil change you will always add an additional 1/2 of a quart that will stay stored in the Baxter assembly and oil filter housing and valve train. I consider that the oil that returns to the oil pan will mix with the existing oil and aid in the cooling of the oil that eventually will be picked up by the oil pump. That is one of the main reasons to keep the required amount of oil in the oil pan. I am an aerospace engineer and I appreciate your effort in helping the community protect their investment. Thank you.
Thank you for your kind response and I believe in sharing information so that people are able to form their on opinions. One other aspect that i did not really cover is that when you apply the air pressure to the filter when changing oil, you force anything that may be in the oil pickup tube back into the oil to be drained. Good way to keep that cleaned.
Thank you for the video
So by adding this Baxter oil adapter will make the thicking sound?
I just did my first oil change and I wasn’t even close to getting that amount of oil after compressing air. I had about a small leaks worth. Contacted Baxter to see what they say
Please keep us posted on what you find.
Didn’t see you remark your dip stick so you get the proper level. I have seen other videos on this and they took a screw driver to make a new mark.
I was wondering about this, after my install on my 2021 RAM 3.6 with a WIX 57502 filter, I'm showing 1/2 qt low on stick event though i put in 5 qts. So the 1/2 qt is now retained in the filter? Should I add 1/2 qt or call it good?
In December, I finished installing a new aluminum oil filter housing in my 2022 Dodge Challenger. The old plastic one began leaking oil perhaps after I over torqued the filter cap.
Will this work with both an aluminum and plastic oil filter housing?
If you still have a plastic one, should be careful when installing it?
Yes I installed mine in an aluminum filter adapter.
@@JeepsLimited Thanks. Does it improve performance, or just make filter changes cleaner?
@dcavalli9 it does literally nothing. It's supposed to prevent dry start by helping keep the oil primed but it doesn't. At least it didn't for me.
@@JeepsLimited When changing the oil a few times a year or every 5,000-6,000 miles, does it matter if some oil is spilled from the open filter? Is the traditional, enclosed filter better than the open paper one?
@dcavalli9 probably no real difference in the filter itself. This is supposed to help keep your oil primed so you don't have dry start.
Just curious. If the engine requires 6 quarts of oil, what is the difference in having 6 quarts that drains after 20 minutes in the Oil pan to having 5 1/2 in the pan and 1/2 in the new filter? Why add the 1/2 quart?
Great question, and I totally get the curiosity around the oil capacity and its distribution. Here's my take as an untrained mechanic: while the engine requires 6 quarts for optimal performance, ensuring a consistent oil pressure at the top of the engine is key to preventing dry starts, especially in the case of shorter oil life or quick draining from the oil pan.
Adding that extra 1/2 quart specifically ensures that the oil filter and the upper parts of the engine stay adequately lubricated even during those initial moments when the engine starts. This helps eliminate any potential dry spots and ensures smoother, better-protected starts, extending the engine's longevity.
It's all about maintaining that crucial oil pressure at every vital point within the engine, right from the get-go!
great video! did you use the Mobil 1 Oil Filter M1-212A?
Yes I did
They're looking for solutions to a problem that doesn't really exist. I work on on makes and models everyday. If you're engine is making that kinda noise when first started, ("even after 48 hrs setting"), you've got bigger issues.
I appreciate your perspective! It's awesome to have someone with your experience and expertise join the conversation.
While engine noise during startup can indeed signal underlying issues, the Baxter Performance Oil Unit aims to provide an extra layer of protection, especially during those crucial initial moments after an engine starts. This added assurance helps to mitigate potential wear and tear, particularly in engines that may experience dry starts due to shorter oil life or quick drainage.
It's true; unusual noises on startup can be a sign of more profound concerns, and we completely agree that addressing the root cause is vital. Baxter Performance solution is designed as an extra measure to support engine health and longevity.
We're always keen to explore various perspectives and solutions within the automotive community. If you've got any other insights or recommendations, I would love to hear them! Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Its a major flaw in the oil system design. It takes about 2 to 3 seconds to get oil pressure. So that's 2 to 3 seconds without any oil in the valve train and no oil pressure at the timing chain tensioner.
Mine did not go in very easy 😅and I need to secure that hard hose it's leaking
You have a picture of what/where it is leaking?
please clean your lense so we are able to see proporly !
Wish you would of did a 48 hour wait time and then start it up. Oh well….
not an issue. I will do that for you later this week. I don't drive it as much since I work from home. Stay tuned.
48 hour non running test start.
Why?
Why what? Can you provide a bit more to your question so I can respond correctly?
Honestly I think you got scammed for $400. This adaptor does keep all the oil in the filter only, but under that filter is exactly the same configuration as the factory set up. The only benefit is that you can now use a spin on canister filter. If they just advertise like that, then I don’t see a problem at all.
Imagine this, your crankcase is not in space with no gravity. Unless you can always put your crankcase under negative pressure and eliminate gravitational force, the oil will drain to the bottom into the oil pan no matter what. This piece does not follow physics law is the first red flag. Because combining this adapter with a canister filter, with a factory plastic cap with proper o-rings and a filter is exactly the same. This one just got more metals for sure.
I have a Wrangler JK and a Grand Cherokee both with 3.6 Pentastar. If you look into your oil filling port, start the engine, it literally takes less than a second for the oil to start splashing. So this piece is misguiding people who are victims of false advertising and should be called out. This can be easily proved by basic physics laws that this thing does not keep oil in crankcase.
SCAM, Oil pressure goes to 30 pounds in 3 seconds OEM guidelines.
I see your comments on a few of these videos... do you have a Jeep?
Have you used this product?... or are you just reading a book?
Just curious....
