100% I hated Signals & Systems so much that I dove into it and chose it as one of my graduate subspecialties. Such an amazing field of EE.
Only engineers specialize in the field they despise out of pure spite
I need to do advice for everyone, there's no such a good or bad career and your career isn't a box 🎁 or either a unique way, nowadays we need more polymaths rather than specialists due the increasing demand of interdisciplinary approach of the studies and jobs however it's important to focus on a thematic field in order to get a satisfactory and grateful experience
Perfect video for the situation I am in right now, thank you!
Thank you so much for posting this video. I'm a senior in high school soon to be pursuing a B.S. in EE and soon a Ph.D. and your videos have been a massive help!
Glad it was helpful!
that's exactly what Ive been looking for thanks Ali !
Glad I could help!
Ali, really thank you for posting this video.
Of course! What did you like about it?
Hey Ali. I’m watching from Australia, about to enter my 4th year of undergrad EE. I love your videos and just wanted to say thank you so much for all the effort you put in 😊 really admire your work!

Indeed, thank you for this 40 minute video, all gold
I've bought your book on Amazon, really like this book.
Thank you so much! If you can leave a review on amazon review about what you liked about it I would really appreciate that -- it would help reach more students!
great video Ali
this video has a ton of value as someone completing their degree.
Thank you very much!
I really enjoyed this overview! I’m gonna go for analog/mixed signal/RF microelectronics/IC design
Very insightful, thanks Ali for this info
Anytime
Priceless pieces of information! Please keep inspiring us!
Thank you! what would you like to see next?
We would appreciate your guidance on the following topics, based on your expertise:
- Optimal methods for absorbing EE books.
- Effective note-taking strategies for EE students.
I'm about 4 months away from starting my degree in EE and your videos have been a huge help in helping me choose this major. I was considering some other engineering fields even though EE has always stuck out to me, and this video just cemented my choice once and for all! Plenty of the subfields you explained already look so fun and interesting, and I can't wait to start taking classes on them so I can figure out which career to choose in the future. You did such a good job at explaining everything in an understandable yet informative way, and i'll definetely be checking your book out! Thank you so much for what you do, from a fellow future engineer!
Another great video! I would love to see a video on the mindset required to be an engineer e.g.(First Principles thinking)and how to develop it
Great idea, this would be a very important video
I have a video titled "this video will make or break your engineering career" it touches on it a bit, go watch it
The best video and explanation ever. Thank you so much

Watching all the way from Botswana, thank you so much for this informative video, I’m starting my undergrad soon and your video has really given me a reason to persue EE , I’ve also always loved it❤️
Great video. Was always unsure of the subfields because never really understood all the fields.
Glad you liked it!
Hey Ali! Thank you for all very informative videos you make!!
I really like your best mind-set as an engineer. I could feel that how much productive and motivated you have lived everyday.
I’m about to enter my master for integrated circuit design.
There are two streams which is analog vs digital circuit design.
Could you give some advice, because both of them really looks cool and I got good marks in exams for above courses in my bachelor.
39:15 So true brother! great vid man!!
So glad I found this channel after deciding to go back to college for EE 4 years after high school. You really give me a lot more confidence and hope for my future endeavors bro.👌🏽
Welcome aboard!
engineering photonics is the future and you can definitely mix telecommunications/signal processing with RF and Microwaves technology due their relationship in the area that I'm interested in is remote sensing and satellite communications.
According to photonics it is just THz Waves but for now we need further R&D in order to get a better applications.
The video was great . We look forward to seeing more content about careers in EE .
great video! i was extremely lucky when i chose computer engineering that it ended up being perfect for me. i love embedded systems and especially digital circuit design and programming. i get my e&m knowledge from my physics degree so it works for me. but this was good to learn more about EE and applications
Thanks for sharing!
Hello, I'm Brazilian and I'm currently in the second semester of electrical engineering, your videos are incredible!!
Glad you like them!

Hey man, I have just started my degree in EE
This video helped me so much
So many beautiful subfields! i love digital and analog electronics. i'm still deciding between wireless comms, microwave circuits or DSP with FPGAs
They go hand in hand.
A great video, thanks so much Ali!
Nice overview of ee topics 😊
Glad you liked it!
great video!
Partially thanks to you ;)
Dope you’re a UB alumni. I live in Buffalo and that’s where I’m transferring to for my bachelor’s for EE
Thank you so much.
Pls I want you to talk about the combination of electrical engineering and software engineering together which is literally leading to embedded systems as you have said. Pls can you talk more about it.
Because I'm a student studying electrical engineering in university and before I got into school I already have knowledge about software engineering
How to develop softwares
So I want to know how can I bring or combine the two together and make something reasonable from it.
This channel is a hidden gem bro
how can we help more students find it?
Very good video
Good job
Hey man I hope you see this I’m 17 and have been thinking about what to pursue. I’ve always been a hands-on person and I’ve finally narrowed down what I possibly want to do. Software engineering & electrical engineering is what I’m between. The question is if I go to college what should I major in?
I want a major in what could hit these subjects since they’re in the same field. Would EE be best for that or Computer engineering? Because I’ve seen software engineering have its own course but I want to have both in case I want to switch. So I’m confused and Just wanna be prepared but I’m mad over thinking and don’t know where to start, I’ve been hoping to get books for software and math to get a start on getting knowledge on math. Which I really suck at.
hey man great vid, ur definitely helping a lot and im a 2nd year EE student in canada , just wanted to note you should double check if you’re allowed to show google photos on your videos as you can get copyrighted.
its done with good intentions, I doubt anyone would complain. If anything im showcasing their images
@@alithedazzlingyeah i get that, but your channel just started if you get big later on , youtube themselves could see this and copyright you themselves , maybe do your videos as you do, but when you actually show the images go to a website you can actually use photos of just to be safe , i wouldn’t want this channel to get deleted , you only get 3 strikes!
Thanks, good insight! Do you have an interest in law in general? what made you think about this? @@jonathanaguilera32
@@alithedazzlingif you google “can i use google images in my youtube videos” it will tell you you’re NOT allowed to use it and you can face legal consequences. something as simple as someone reporting your video could do that.
I have a youtube channel myself not on this account, but most people know this so i don’t need to be particularly interested in law to know that. Just do research on the images and you’ll figure it out for sure. Keep up the good work !
thanks a lot for the heads up! @@jonathanaguilera32
Great video! This was very insightful into this subject. As a student, I am excited and interested in this field and I am considering to pursue this in my studies. I have watched several videos from your channel and I love them. Are there any ways to reach out to you for opportunities to work with you or do research?
Yesss Join our discord -> discord.gg/dZUbkpHDsB (You can message me there)
yes i like long videos, im going to study ee with a computer engineering focus next year
Great! what would you like to see next?
Bro, your channel is definitely a hidden gem! I love EE, and actually, I am about to make a hard decision, and I would appreciate it if you could give me your opinion. I was accepted at Texas A&M and UT Austin, and I plan to major in EE. In your opinion, which would be the best option?
really tough choice, I know A&M is the better school, but Austin is a growing city in tech. I would visit both campuses and go by which one feels right for you
@@alithedazzling Omg, thanks for your response. Texas A&M is better? I always thought UT Austin was a better for engineering haha
I have visited both campuses, and I like UT because of the city, and I like A&M for the campus itself, so I would like to go to the best in academics for EE, so, in this case, A&M would be the best option?
I really appreciate your help!
Which subfield do you think is suitable for you and why?
I work on diagnostics for cars so I guess I am in little bit of software and networking
Love em all
Bro did not give controls justice, you spent like 2 mins on it compared to the others. Controls is the coolest thing in Electrical Engineering, it’s pretty much how humans move and operate, how anything in the world functions.
very true -- I am making a part 2 soon discussing power and controls in more detail
Thank you for this video!
What would you say is the hardest out of these subfields? How about the easiest?
hardest is one you find least interesting.
easiest is one you like the most
This is really amazing, and I appreciate it, but I suggest you talk to some video editor and sugur coat your stuff a little. It's a priceless video and it should get get more and more views.
I am very limited on time, I like these raw uncut videos as a video editor is one more thing to manage in my life
Do good unis or colleges have courses that focus more on practical work rather than theory in your experience? Do you think having a practical class that teaches the theory and math side by side is better than seperating them? Im asking cause i dropped out of EE in the second year cause my college sucked😢. Now i study business
Hey Ali, I watched the video but I noticed you didn't say anything about robotics. I'm going into electrical engineering, and I want to know what I should specialize if I want to work in robotics/automation?
Thanks a Ali
you got it
@alithedazzling can u make a video about how to choose electives
RADAR would fall most closely under antennas & EM right, even if of course they also involve signal processing
What will be a good combination with electronic engineering? I was thinking computer science however I am not sure.
I am struggling in deciding if I want to go the automotive route or the power sector route. That’s why I don’t know what classes I want to specialize in. I would need some advice. Also is it possible to start at energy abd then move to automotive if it doesn’t fit me, or vice versa?
yes youre not married to one field
I wanted to major in electrical engineering, but I didn’t have enough math classes under my belt to do so. Because of that, I’m a computer science major. I still find coding very interesting, and I’m starting my first coding class tomorrow. The plan that I made with my advisor focused on knocking out the prerequisites for EE while I’m working towards my computer science degree. That way, I can go back and get a second bachelors in EE. Would that be a wise plan?
yes
Do Computer Engineering…EE and Computer Science Combination…short route and you can study both…they have some EE elective courses to take…Good luck brother…
I have to ask, what math classes do you lack in compsci? don't compsci majors also take calc?
@@splinx1768 I was a music major before changing my major, hence why I’m just now starting math at a collegiate level. I also had no clue I’d ever try something like this when I was in highschool, so I didn’t aim for high level math classes. I understand I’m pretty behind but I’m very willing to put *a lot* of work in to get where I need to be. The thing with compsci is that the classes don’t require math prerequisites, so I can immediately start taking them. With EE, I need to have Calculus with Analytic Geometry to even start the classes, which is fair because EE is very math intensive. Because of that, it would take me much longer to graduate as an EE major, extending an already very comprehensive degree program. In Florida (maybe this is a country wide thing, I’m not sure) there’s a big emphasis on completing your degree on time. I still have to take methods of calculus, but I can start on the compsci classes before I get to that point.
@@splinx1768essentially I’m allowed to take compsci courses as I’m catching up on math, whereas if I were an EE major I would need to get through a lot of math classes before I could even start the curriculum. I still will end up taking methods of calculus though. At my school the bare minimum for starting the EE program is calculus with analytic geometry. I was a Music major before switching to compsci which is why I haven’t taken any math classes until this point. I also didn’t have much direction in high school because I had a pretty rough start in freshman year. In any case, I’m 100% willing to put *a lot* of work in to succeed in math. compsci and EE are definitely fields that I’m passionate about. My school just cares about graduating in a timely fashion a lot and trying to get into the EE program would delay me significantly. I honestly wouldn’t care about graduating late if I could take that path, but I’m still extremely happy with this path.
Hey Ali, do you think photonic circuits can take over electrical circuits and be integrated in computing devices? If so do you think it will be more efficient than electrical circuits?
I think electrical circuits will always exist, photonics may replace high speed things -- it will be entirely application dependant
@@alithedazzling I’ve seen research saying that photonic chips can have processing power of over 3000 TFlops, that means that computers won’t even have to have GPUs anymore and just rely on their integrated circuit. It will make computers more efficient. Just depends when we can actually see this technology get implemented.
Can you make a video on quantum computing?
i dont know enough about the topic :/
I love you Ali you are my mentor❤. I also really love Electrical Engineering and enjoy it.
Im doing cs right now on a software engineering track. I was thinking of going for a masters in electrical and computer engineering in order to gain more advanced hardware knowledge to apply it to robotics and controls.

did u recommend the macos over windows for eletrical engineer student?
windows is better
I am an undergraduate physics student , I am about do my PG , I am really interested in electrical engineering, but I am confused, what would be the most efficient way to shift towards engineering? Doing M.E after my M. Sc or just joining B.E and starting from scratch.
Same here but I got a nursing degree instead... I think you have the upper hand and it won't be difficult to make the switch with high level math and physics courses already covered in your degree
@@reyoscura9229 Yeah , I do have the basics , but I think time is a really big constraint I am already 21. Worst part is I am uncertain what I like.
How about robotics/mechatronics? Can it be considered as an electrical engineering subfield?
the electrical part of robotics is electronics, technically a subfield yeah but id categorize it under both electronics and software

question/tldr:
Do you think certain areas are more susceptible to be replaced by AI than others? It's hard to feel positive about it in the current climate.
background:
Im an EE grad with a double major in computer and communications engineering grad, I've been doing embedded software dev for the last two years and going back to start my masters this year in electronics and computer engineering, but im also very interested in digital and wireless comms. Long term I'd like to go into teaching which means going the route of a PhD first, but it's hard to feel like im doing the right thing committing more to this field with AI coming down the line. Like to me doing something in business to pair with my EE degree would be a better decision but I just dont have any interest in the business side of things
hmm thats a very open ended question. I think there will always be need for problem solvers with technoloy background.

software engineering is not a subfield of electrical engineering
It is an inter disciplinary field that overlaps both EE and CS, you can focus more on the low level side such as assembly, shell or kernel or the high level developement side depends on your knowledge background
