I know you already said it's not quite fair, but the Stihl will probably come to life after a few more tanks of gas. I didn't realize how much of a difference this makes until I bought my first new saw. Great chain sharpening! Great video!
I have a 681 at home and it's an amazing saw, I wouldn't trade it for a heavy Husqvarna 390 and I wouldn't exchange it for a 500i either, maybe after a long and difficult decision I would exchange it for a Stihl 661.
@@hi4429 The 661 is similarly heavy, but the performance is elsewhere. The Solo 681 does not lose power, but has much less vibration and weight. So for me 80cc Solo 681 or 90cc Stihl 661. Husqvarna 390 is great, but Stihl 661 or Solo 681 are better.
Have an ms 500 i ,, Also use a 572 , 660 , , 390 , and 395 ,, Big wood rate the 390 as best do it all saw "With exhaust mod" .. Nice cutting ,, and nicely sharpened chain .. Cool video :-)
Interesting comparison... I'm thinking maybe the faster cutting saws may just weigh more? None of them really bogged down, it would be interesting to compare the weights of the saws with the speed of the cuts. You may have put the same downward pressure on the saws but a heavier saw may have increased it artificially.
Meh, 500i does nothing extra compared to what you have already tbh. Also, the air filter is shit compared to the twist lock HD2s used on the other newer models (like 462, 261, 361 etc.).
@@em4703 yeah I would never go out and buy one anyway I didn't know that 500 had the twist filter I bought a 461 for $250 that was a hell of a bye it's in decent shape so I'm probably going to make a few hundred off that whenever somebody wants to pay up
@@metlheaddrumr the 500i really has nothing on the 462 that I have. People want the latest and greatest but do not realize the time they gain in general cutting doesn’t amount to a lot. Splitting and handling the wood in the time consuming part.
I have a Dolmar 7900 stock with muffler mod. Debating selling it for a 500i or keep it and send it to be ported. How does a 500i ported vs a 7900 ported compare.?
Any experience with the 85cc dolmar big bore kit? I've got a 6421 for sale used locally I'm thinking of picking up and doing the big bore top end swap, but haven't seen any times tests or anyone from a tuning shop really do anything on them.

They are all great machines, it now depends which one you love and which is more easy getting the parts in your qrea when it breakdown.
