Treble Bleed Circuit Comparison

- Does your guitar lose top end as you roll the volume knob down?
You need a treble bleed circuit.
Here is a quick back to back comparison of various Treble Bleed Circuits with the values used by Fender, Suhr, PRS, Cort, TV Jones and Kinman.
TV Jones, Kinman, Cort, Fender but quite honestly I'd be happy with any of those
TV Jones and Kinman are the two
Man, I was looking for a test like this one and you made it! Congratulations for your channel, you are doing it so well. Cheers from London my dear friend.
Excellent comparison! Thanks for taking the time to do this. I think you summed up the issue near the end when you said you ride the volume knob. I can see how the treble bleed is an important consideration in your situation. I guess for a bedroom recorder like me that stays at 10 on the volume, it doesn't really matter. That helps because I'm in the process of building a T-style and have been stressing over this exact topic. I think I won't bother with a treble bleed after all. You just save me a few more hours of searches. Thanks!
Suhr/Cort, or Kinman. The others either lost some sort of frequency or sounded flat as they got quieter. I also noticed the parallel stuff changed the taper of the pot to non-linear.
The Cort treble bleed is the Suhr version ! He missed the fact that the Suhr is wired in Parallel in his description. This circuit was invented by Suhr.
Thank you. I noticed that the Cort version was the same as Sure - but it doesn’t say if the Sure version was series or parallel. Now I know.
Thanks for taking time to do this video! It's an excellent comparison, and I'm surprised to see how different mods effect the output taper so differently. The PRS mod seems to really drop the gain level, while the Fender and Shur mods produce the most output. To my ears, the Shur mod seems to work best. I'm wondering if any of the capacitor or resistor values need to be changed for single coil Tele pickups.
Nice comparison, I too am a confirmed treble bleed nerd. I listened thru my proper monitors and felt that at just backed off a little, like 9-7 on your vol, they all hung in there. As you went past that, the suhr maintained midrange while the others really started to thin out.
I put the same value same bleeds, (.0015 uf - 150k) in my strat with single coil stacked humbuckers and my LP with full sized hums and the strat sounds like an icepick turned down (300k Bourns vol in pot) but the LP sounds incredible turned down (500k cts) - with the exact same bleeds. After hearing this, gonna try the suhr style in the strat.
Pot taper/value and taper interacting with the bleed values really seems to be the key. Great thing about trying different treble bleeds is that's it's about the cheapest thing you can do to your guitar so it's easier to try different stuff! 👍🤘
Just installed a Cort version after watching your vid. Thx m8!
Thank you, I went with the Fender values after this test.
@@RickHollis I'm going to try that out on a SSS strat.
The Cort is the Suhr circuit !!!
@@marko6831 the values the same, but doesn't say if Suhr in parallel or series. I did in parallel as Cort circuit specified.
@@pmd7914 Suhr is parallel too, it's the same circuit.
I also did my own treble bleed mods, all in parallel for every different guitar (Strat, tele, les paul) You can buy a bag of capacitors and resistors, and play with them. They all sound good, and respond nicely
What are the different treble bleed RC values for the Shur, fender, TV jones, Cort, kinman, PRS?
they all work fine.
Thank you very much for your work and congratulations.
P.S.
So Fender is the best..., I first discovered this circuit on my first Fender, an American Professional Series 1, truly an amazing guitar..!;
Grazie davvero per il tuo lavoro e complimenti.
P.s.
Quindi Fender è il migliore..., Io ho scoperto per la prima volta questo circuito sulla mia prima Fender, una Serie American Professional 1, veramente una chitarra sorprendente...!
Fender, Suhr, Kinman
thanks!
How did you make those leads?
Cort for me :)
The SUHR and CORT were the only 2 that sounded even remotely right. The PRS one was horrifying. It was quite clearly bleeding all of your pickup's signal output to ground.
Aren’t they the same ? I know the Suhr is in parallel
Any treble bleed feeds less signal to ground.
cort for sure
You honestly can't go wrong with a fender one
TV Jones sounded the best to me. It kept the level of the pot without filtering the top end
I always thought the thing you’re seeking to remove with a treble bleed is a cool and useful trick… rolling off is something I do all the time for different tones 🤷♂️
cort and suhr are the same?
You don't indicate if the SUHR circuit is series or parallel.
Parallel. Suhr and Cort are the same circuit.
Cort & TV Jones sounded the best to me.
The Cort is the Suhr circuit, invented by Suhr. He simply missed the fact that the Suhr is parallel in his description.
that was really helpful -- kinman, fender, tv jones were good -- prs was AWFUL
Cort sounded best to me, retained some body. Didn't get too thin sounding.
Surh, Cort which then I saw it’s the same.
Cort vote for me
Fender one sounded best to me, but couldn’t I just make one for a few bucks? instead of dropping at least $40 on that
Most definitely
Use a 1 FRAME fade between edits. Sounds like they clip
0:34 song name?

Kinman
The Cort one sounded the best to me
The Cort is the SUHR version ! Suhr invented it.
All the way was kinman till 3 and 2 then the fender stood out.
Suhr fender sound the most consistent.
Cort by a mile
Prs one sucks
I think I have a sensitive ear and I can’t honestly tell the difference. Sorry!
What are you listening on? A phone would be hard up to hear difference but the difference is striking on studio monitors and my laptop. The real difference starts to happen with the volume around 6.
I'm on my phone and there's a big difference . Suhr and the fender gets my vote
@@andrewdenine1685 I ended up putting the Fender one in my Friedman Vintage S guitar.
