    Great video. So many of these knot-tying videos you can barely see what they are doing. You really positioned the camera just right and had the right colored back drop and everything. Kudos.

    Hey great tip! Although when you finish the knot use a square knot instead of a double overhand because that will dress much nicer and be harder to come undone as square knots are more self tightening and have more friction than double overhand.

      Nice! Thanks for the tip, there so much to learn with knots, everytime I go diving or camping I seem to learn a new one.

    I am not even close to being as good/experienced as you but I have a question. Is that an approved/safe way to secure your “safe second”? I think you would want it deployable without having to unclip anything or worst case your buddy is OOG and he reaches for it but can’t get to it.

    • @TheDiveWagon
      @TheDiveWagon  5 років тому +1

      Hey Kelvin thanks for watching! No you are absolutely correct that you want your secondary to be easily accessible for sure. Some divers using "technical" setups use bolt snaps to clip off seconds when they aren't using them. I usually use a magnet clip for mine. I guess I should have maybe thrown in a little more explanation in the video. Or maybe just used a gauge.
      I typically don't want my buddy reaching for my secondary since I like to be able to control the situation and make my buddies panic doesn't lead to anything more disastrous.

      Good luck trying to thread that onto a dive light, or tying off an SPG with it.

      They make a smaller diameter version of it thats last longer than what comes on smb reels.

    What size line do you use ? Great video by the way!

    • @TheDiveWagon

      Hey thanks for watching. That is a very good question. Its from an old reel that we dissected for parts. Not sure the thickness.

      The Dive Wagon ok thanks for the quick reply. Safe diving

      Usually you use a 2mm nylon line. That's what's on most spools and reels. (Except the Apeks ones, because Apeks have to be special.)

    Are you using a reef knot or a granny knot?

    • @TheDiveWagon
      @TheDiveWagon  6 років тому +1

      Im not 100% up to snuff on all my knot types, but I believe it was a granny knot. :)

    • @dharmapunk5
      @dharmapunk5 6 років тому +1

      The Dive Wagon looked line a granny knot but wanted to ask as I may have been wrong 😁. Reef knots are handy for tying similar sized lines together and it holds reasonably well.

    why don't you use cable ties instead? takes less than 5s to put it on. And cheaper too

    • @TheDiveWagon
      @TheDiveWagon  10 місяців тому +1

      Often times zip ties can get brittle and when they are tightened down on something can often just break when twisted in certain angles so I dont mind spending a little extra time if it means i don't accidentally lose my flashlights or camera.

    Why would you clip an octopus when the thing is supposed to be accessible in an emergency???

    • @bloodymarvelous4790
      @bloodymarvelous4790 11 місяців тому +1

      You wouldn't, and you shouldn't. My guess is he grabbed whatever was in front of him without realizing the implication. The technique is great, the application isn't.

      This, absolutely this. It’s a poor item to choose to demo on.

  • @bloodymarvelous4790
    @bloodymarvelous4790 11 місяців тому

    Don't ever clip your alternate air off with a bolt snap. Your alternate air should be easily deployable and accessible in case of an emergency.
    You can use this tie off technique on your SPG, your primary second stage, a dive light, or a dive knife, but never ever on your Octo/alternate air.

    Even easier...use a zip-tie.

    • @TheDiveWagon
      @TheDiveWagon  5 років тому +3

      You absolutely could use a zip-tie. I prefer not to use them unless i have no other choice since zipties aren't so strong when it comes to the twisting motion so they can break. But in a pinch totally. 😀

    • @jonnieinbangkok
      @jonnieinbangkok 5 років тому +1

      @@TheDiveWagon Yes I've heard the "they aren't strong in lateral twisting motion" before...well they're hella strong in all cases. It takes allot of force to break them in any scenario. Just admit you like using knots (with day-glow coloured line) because you want to look cool...not because there is any utilitarian value. 😄😄😄

      You got me! 😉 I can't pass up on a chance to use my bright pink line! It also attracts more fish too. 😋
