We will be working together on my Hydrostream viper build so you guys can follow along and see how he will be able to help!
Just aquired a 1976 Hydrostream Viper. Not by pursuing it or knowing anything about it. Tragically, my son was recently killed in a motorcycle accident, and he left it to me. He had bought it, not intentionally wanting it, but as a favor to a friend. Knowing nothing about boats and having really no interest, I'm finding myself ingulfed in wanting to resurrect the blue metall flake piece of art (from a viewpoint of form is too cool for function). Or is it? I do believe someone clearcoated this one time beauty with automotive clearcoat. A real pain in the ass to remove without silvering the metal flake underneath. I am however almost there. Cannot believe this boat that Eric gave me to sell has got me so entrapped and determined to learn all I can in order to comfidently launch and put it into the water as he had changed his mind, and thought it might be a fun project. It will happen. I will be well informed in all aspects of boating from hauling to launching to loading. And I'll bet dollars to donuts it'll still scare the hell out of me and give me one hell of a smack in the face and scream.. I'M ALIVE! And it will be all right. 1981 115 HP Johnson V4 2 Cycle outboard w electric start and tilt propells it. Its last registration date and use on the water was 2023. I'm hoping to finish with stripping and restoring the gel clearcoat, change drive lube and update registration and launch yet this month.
Want to get me excited .. pop a mold off a Viking and start redoing them in modern materials and the old gel schemes .
I second this!
32 Hydrostreams I have resurrected or helped put back on the water.
There’s probably more viper dreams in backyard’s than any other boat brand or model. This is a good thing!
Get us all motivated,
Thanks for all the comments and clarifications guys! We’re very excited to help the HydroStream community and we’re super grateful to Hunter for helping us get the message out. We’re looking forward to seeing the upcoming videos of the Viper restoration!
I have my viper that's been in my family for 40 years.. im in the process of redoing the floors and fixing her up.. love that people still take interest in them.
I spoke with him at this past Suwannee. Super great guy, glad he’s taking the brand and keeping it alive. Excited to see how things go from here. I’ve got two full recores under my belt, my varmint, and a buddies vking. If you have any questions, I’ll be more than happy to share my little bit of experience with you guys.
This is awesome! Tiger is a cool dude. He actually bought that cream colored SE Hydro from me about a yr ago as he stated (as you can see it's still my profile pic, loved that boat). Most solid Hydrostream I've ever owned. Boat has been 93-94mph with my Merc 225Promax and never finished dialing it in. I removed the original motor and put it in storage as I didn't want to beat on it and it was a fresh water motor its entire life. I believe it only had like 90-100hrs on it, ridiculous. Wish I had kept it to be honest. Looking to get back into them so I'm certainly going to be hitting you up Tiger. Great video BTW! Wish you well Tiger in this journey and look forward to business with you soon.
This is an incredible endeavor! As a V-king owner, I would be thrilled to buy "OER" parts for my boat! If he can get to the stage of reproducing hulls and complete boats, we could see the next generation as excited as we were when we saw them at the boat dealers in the 70s and 80s! I bought my first new one in Clearwater myself in 1986!
Its cool the owner of hydrstream had a tidecraft growing up. Me and my dad had own also. It was pretty too. Was all gold flake it was a pretty quick boat as well. I mean it wasnt as fast as the boats on the channel but it would bust 70
Video came out great! I couldn’t imagine how much time and $ I woulda saved on that boat if Tiger had those products available. Awesome to see guys with vision keeping the sport alive!
One of my favorite boats around!
Thanks Kody!
Glad this is happening,my first performance boat was a Vector back in the 80' s later Valero tunnel, restored a Hustler a few years ago. All were fun at different levels. Wish him luck to keep the brand going and keep the history of them going.
Great video
Looking forward to seeing them try to make the rub rail.
Keep the legend alive, cool👍🏻
Yes to all his ideas
I think thats awesome! I hope this venture works out for him
This is awesome to see, hope it works out well for him!
Our first fast boat was a Tidecraft wildfire bass boat, aka Hydrostream Vector hull. We had a 2.4 Bridgeport ran high 90s with 28 chopper.
Umm maybe was a tad overrated...lolol
This makes me very happy! I had a Vecter fantastic ride !!
I had a blue Vector, with modified 275 1984 black max could spin a 30 pitch prop at 7200 rpms !!! I lived in St Paul by the Harriet Island boat ramp as a 14-16 years old hanging out holding boats at the dock for pop and candy bars and a quick run in hydrostream or Allison speed boats. My brother boss had bought Howard pipcorn the designer of hydrostream home in shore view MN where Howard did most of his boat testing. I got to talk to Howard on the phone. He had great advice on driving them !!
I use to build plugs and mold with Howard Pipkorn long time ago cool guy
I had a '79 Viking with an 82 200 Black Max, I miss it a whole lot. Mine came with a Baron trailer.
Awesome opportunity for you man!
Yes i felt honored!
Very cool!
Good ideas. Hope it all works as planned. I enjoyed the time I spent re-tooling the Voyager and Vegas with Jim Contzen. Things just didn't work out as planned. Hope all the best for you...
I gotta bring the HST down for a run
Awesome video
Cmon! Jan 13-14 2023
Love the streams, saw the website 2g for a windshield with a frame though can't imagine anything being saleable. Any stream u find is so much work too bad they don't currently hold value they're so much fun!
I just ran across your channel today and subscribed.. In going through your playlist found this one and had no idea this was going on.. I have been away from the performance boat hobby for 10 plus years but in those days had a Hydrostream Vector, Vegas XT, STV Pro Comp, STV Euro and Rapid Craft Riot..
Awesome. Great info!
Hydrostream boats are a sexy looking boats, there own style, SWEET.
Not big on brown. But that white and brown boat was pretty sharp
very cool. Tiger, good luck in your adventure. Please don't make the window frame a 3 piecer, 1 or none. Shipping shouldn't be hard to figure out.
When will Checkmate reopen with affordable boats? Or Allison? Thanks for your videos.
I see checkmate is building boats again!!
@@weekendsonthewater thanks the place in NC? They were unresponsive. Some new company using the name?
What we need more than anything is reasonably priced old 2 strokes that are desirable hah! Or a new power plant that's not 800 pounds. People are hording the old 2.4/2.5 efis etc
Watching this makes me wan't to pull the old Valero out of the barn and slap some balsa in it. One day. Need to set cash aside to do it properly. 98 2.5 still hung in the garage.
Any recommendations oh how to get the old core out? Im in the jax area restoring my families old viper and needs all the typical hydrostream stuff..lol
Nothing will cure your need-for-speed quite like a 'Stream being pushed by a V6 Merc. I ran mine for 13 glorious years,
How are these Hydrostreams going to be able to handle the heavy high HP 4 strokes? What new engine can you buy for these boats if they are produced?
Thats the problem of producing new boats. Theres no new motors to compete with the old ones. Can go a 115 yamaha or 150 mercury but those dont compete with the old 2.5s
That's what hydrostream guys need more than anything is the old motors...too bad etec got ended by mercury there was potential. There are no new options.
Very coooooool
NICE
Any word on interior upholstery options for factory configurations
Yes it can be done relatively easily!
Are you selling new boats right now
Building new boats- molds etc.?
If theres a market for it he wouldn't be apposed to it
I had a 1986 Vegas XT that I tuned the hull and built out an Evinrude 200XP to factory race specs and removed the rev limiter... We radar gunned it at 115 MPH...
I lived in Cleveland at the time working for an OMC dealer.
GLOPRA offshore boats with a Nav, Driver and a throttle guy were only doing 75 MPH...
We used to go out and lap the races in cut off shorts and a cooler...
They were all in Lifeline gear!!!!
Spen Tech machine Flint, mi can help you
I did have a vking I started with then mirage picked a Hyrostream it has a cup in the pad and it’s shorter not sure what the name is need help
There is a v king with omc power in my son's drag boat racing club. It's amazing how in its class to see it killing the Allison Mercury pair. Two outdated combinations killing these boats of today
Who has the molds? Why dont you team up with a current boat builder and really bring the brand back????
From what I've understood in years gone by any molds that have been found were basically unusable due to deterioration from age and improper storage
Sign me up for a new Viper!
Brian didn’t do all the custom work, just wanna give the credit where it’s due with Rons custom fabrication. Ron did alotta work both fab paint and what not
I’m curious to see the future of tigers company, took it as a joke at first, but it seems as if he has a real plan nowadays
In the context of what he was saying hes right. Brian and I designed the layout to accept the biggest tank we could while still keeping it strong. Ron did very little glass work on the boat but he did a fantastic job with the paint and transom bracket!!!
