I had experience to live nearly 2 years abroad completely alone, can understand that sometimes it could be hard :) As long as you have each other and are happy - everything will be alright.
Life is weird, I have made many plans that worked out totally different. But it's so interesting and worth it. It can be scary for you, but you both have a good chance of getting good jobs here in LT, much easier than in UK, Germany, France or maybe even US. So don't worry, you will never be bad financially. Maybe just homesick ;)
If you want to find souvenirs that are related to Lithuanian culture, I'd say amber accessories, especially necklaces and bracelets, are the most traditional Lithuanian accessories that people have been wearing/making in the Baltics for like a 1000 years. Souvenirs from amber are also often made by local craftsmen from locally sourced amber. Most shops are in towns on the Baltic coast, but you should be able to find some in Vilnius as well, or online. Oh, and Amber is a very common boy/girl name in Lithuania (Gintaras / Gintarė).
@@LifeinLithuania Lots of traditional Lithuanian names are made from regular words: Saulius/Saulė - from saulė - sun, Aušrius/Aušra/Aušrinė - from aušra - dawn, Ugnius/Ugnė - from ugnis - fire, Laimis/Laima - laimė - joy, Drąsius - drąsa - bravery, Danguolė - dangus - sky, Ramunė - daisy, Rūta - rue, and many more ;)
I think, Lithuania used to have one of the fastest public internet (in public places), but I don't think it's true anymore haha. It was a few years ago
You can get 1gbs for 20 euros... Like living in UK fastest is virgin media 350 mbs and all others like Vodafone can offer 60 mbs. So I think Lithuania is still good on internet
My family came over to the states in the mid 1800s from the same village in Lithuania. Finally getting around to make plans to spend a week there looking up relatives and history, researching what I can 👍.
For sure, please try to speak more Lithuanian next time. You are really taking the initiative to do so, and that's very admirable. I look forward to your next one.
That part of the video since about 17:00 feels like you are very nostalgic, seems you are almost crying :) My thought is everyone who lives outside of their own homeland at some point of their life feel the same and there is a turning point. I think you guys need to make friends here due to avoid getting the feeling of loneliness. It doesn't mater those friends are locals or foreigners who live here for longer period of time. Just imagine how your routine would change if you get more socialized, getting closer to the culture and stuff. Everything depends on you, how you decide to spend your upcoming years here in Lithuania and how you are gonna remember this period of your life at the end.
We have fastest PUBLIC internet. When you got to stores and connect, it will be fast. Also, the small villages get good connection while me in the US cannot get any connection when I am in a small town here
I think you need to change your router or internet provider. Some internet providers don't have a stable connections. Also, routers they give are usually very cheap and don't reach longer distances. At my home I have Telia with 1GB/s plan and I bought my own router with wifi repeaters. That's a bit overkill for home but I have a lot of devices connected at the same time.
I think you are confusing internet with wifi. you can have the best internet speeds in the world but if you have a s*itty router at your apartment it will bottleneck. check your plan, check your router settings.
Absolutelly, your internet speed depends on your router, so I'm pretty sure the apartament gets fiber-optic interner but it is connected to the cheeperst router which gives just a fraction of the real capability. Those old apartment buildings are equiped with fiber-optic internet at least 10 years ago.
Yeah, we are really proud of our products especially when it comes to vegetables and fruits. That's why most of the time you will find Lituanian flag on the products. Also yes, we have super fast internet 😅😅 Don't know why it's slow for you.
If you're referring to žemuogė, they are certainly super tasty. I love them. I don't know what kind of camera you're using or if you're using simply a phone (which give excellent results too these days), you can get a decent gimbal for a decent price, i.e.
In the 90s our government invested heavily into fiber infrastructure. That is why every settlement that has a school or a library has a fiber line going to it, and there are ton of providers using that infrastructure to supply cheep high speed internet to the local population. So actual metric people are referring to is rural internet speeds, by which Lithuania definitely was number one in the world, just because we were one of the first to implements such extensive fiber infrastructure, but that was long time ago and a lot of countries have comparable internet these days. I'm sure there is some metric by witch we can say that we are still number one, but its not like you are going to feel the difference compared to other developed countries. Its just that internet speeds in general is the same through out the whole country, you can get 1GB fiber to your flat/house weather you live in a big city or a small town, and that's why our average is so high.
If you are interested in some souvenirs from LT you might try to look for ethnic baltic stuff online - like ethnicshop.lt and few more similar. Pendants, necklaces and other jewelry they sell in many cases are copies of ancient jewelry that was used in Baltic countries in pagan times.
Maybe 6-7 years ago, some statistical institute estimated the spread and speed of the fiber-optic Internet by countries and cities, and Lithuania received 1st place in Europe, and maybe 3rd or 4th place in the world. Undoubtedly, this is another thing that such a small country like Lithuania can be proud of :) and all Lithuanians will now always say forever that Lithuania has the best internet in the world. It's a bit funny, but it's not far from true, everyone in Lithuania can get very fast internet, free wi-fi everywhere, you don't need to register for wi-fi, as in other countries like Germany or Switzerland to get it. Even if you go very far to some uninhabited place in Lithuania, your mobile phone will still have a good internet connection.
Just wanted to add - it would be very clever for Alex to get his first job in LT after uni, at least intership. There are lots of international coorporations, like Western Union, ect. The reason for that - it's freaking hard to get a job in other Europe countries as a newbie due to competition. Believe me, I know! So it is wise to kick start the career in LT as you will be valued here, but not in Germany, UK, Scandinavia ect. And the pay is ok for a living.
Internet is pretty fast here, but if you are using WiFi (especially 2.4GHz) in an apartment, you will have problems because of interference from the neighbors. To be fast, WiFi requires careful setup, measuring signal levels (and placing access points where needed), choosing the least crowded channel etc. Mobile data (4G)also depends on signal quality, but less so. On the other hand, 4G is not as fast usually.
When I lived in a flat I got like 25-50% drop rate for packets. And the router was in the same room as a laptop. So many people are using wifi that they interfere with each other
@@user-py9cy1sy9u 2.4GHz wifi only has 3 non-overlapping channels. It gets pretty crowded in an apartment building with many different networks close to each other.
If You are living in rented appartament with landlords internet of cheapest slowest plan, additionally shared on more than one flat, of course the speed would questioned...
20€ for an hour of tennis in Vilnius? crazy... with those prices not surprising that they cannot produce a good player like Gulbis in the neighbouring Latvia
Hope, you haven't started to regret your decision to stay in Lithuania for longer after past few weeks events, because I questioned myself for the first time if it's a country I wanna live in
many Lithuanian schools have football stadiums, basketball courts and swimming pools. sports schools have a greater choice of sports. Military schools and cadet schools have an even greater need for them (besides all that, there are marching grounds there) for some reason tennis, ice hockey is not so popular here. one Vilnius high school has a boxing ring and prepares fighters. Tennis, fencing, horses are the sport of the rich here in Lithuania. really, tennis opens up great avenues because it can meet serious people, bankers, businessmen, bosses in various fields. one of my acquaintances so climbed the career ladder because he became his boss’s tennis partner. Lithuania is not the US it has its own special taste. which is hard to explain it needs to be seen and experienced.although Lithuania has one famous male tennis player Ričardas Berankis
