Despite wanting to see more of the world of Nippon, Okami is literally one big story that simply ends well. The alternative would be to explore the Celestial Plain and rejuvenate it all, maybe a 2-player coop game option too with Waka. There might be more folklore about spirits or something, more cultural stories and myths from Japan, elements that made the first title shine beyond its graphical beauty. I still hope that we can still get a true sequel to Okami with Platinum games behind it. I've recently played Nier Automata and was thoroughly impressed.
Honestly, out of all the stuff you've (un)covered this sounds like it can still happen the most. Now with a new leadership in Platinum all they have to do is to restart the talks again. Platinum'd probably be up for it and with the 8th Gen consoles just getting an HD-remaster the series is semi-hot again. Also, I don't blame the people telling you "Okamiden is Okami 2!" because it's exactly that no matter what Kamiya personally thinks but I also don't blame you for calling it Okami 2 because really, how else are you going to call this video? "How a Kamiya-directed Okami-sequel almost happened at PlatinumGames" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.
Well, maybe, but i don't think it will happen for the foreseeable future. Since Platinum has their work cut out for them as of now. -Bayonetta 3 -Gran blue fantasy -Babylon's fall -an unnanouced original IP -Two different mobile games.
Well not this or next year. But Kamiya's probably focussing on Bayonetta 3 so after next year presumably his team would be free. Would also fit into Capcom's policy after RE7 and DMC V.
I can see why people don't consider ŌkamiDen a true sequel, I myself don't consider it a true sequel. I'm with the minority (?) who liked the game, but the tweaking with the lore just doesn't allow me to accept it in the canon. And it's nice, cute, but nowhere near as good. And I also can see why some consider Ōkami a game that works well stand-alone. But there are so many questions regarding the Moon Tribe that deserve to be addressed. Maybe they can turn that into a manga or a novel... but, here's the deal: instead of a sequel, why not a prequel with Shiranui and Ishaku that lets us see what was the Moon Tribe like before the whole tragedy? It's a rather easy thing to do because it is stated that Waka knew Amaterasu when she was Shiranui and always held a lot of respect to her (or him). We know how the story of Shiranui ends, but we don't really know what happened before he rescued Kamiki and Nagi. Really, Ōkami has a lot of potential and a lot of lore to explore. I just hope that they don't choose to make it a money cow. Ōkami is way too pure to be contaminated by greed.
It was ported to Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 some years ago. It must just be easy to port and they want to make money off of it. Also, it's recently been put on PS4, Xbox One and PC as well. Some old games just keep getting re-released for newer hardware, Okami is one of them. I would like a Proper sequel though.
Super If it happens, I doubt it's because of that. They've ported/remastered the thing so many times that if it had any influence, they would've made it by now. PS2 > Wii > PS3 Remaster > PS4/XBO w 4K > Switch Remaster Port w Motion Controls They've ported it to every generation for 12 years. Clearly they're aware of the demand, but something would have to change on their end.
It seems like Capcom is back. Mega Man, Resident Evil, and Devil May Cry are all back and they managed to make Monster Hunter a mainstream game in the west and a game of the year contender. Maybe Capcom is working in this currently. Okami 2, Power Stone, Dino Crisis, and Dragon's Dogma 2 are all things they could make next now that all of their big franchises are out of the way.
You should be. Apparently Microsoft's cancellation of Scalebound brought the studio close to bankruptcy. They haven't directly admitted this but someone at the studio gave an interview where they said they were very happy at Nier Automata's surprise success and said that if it hadn't been a success they would have been in a very bad place. Scalebound's cancellation was probably very costly for the company.
This is incorrect and was addressed in May by Atsushi Inaba at BitSummit. Hideki Kamiya said that Taro Yoko saved PlatinumGames. This was a comment on the studio's morale and motivation after some not well-received titles (Korra, Star Fox Zero and TMNT). Even after the cancellation of Scalebound and before the release of NieR:Automata, Inaba stated that the studio was still excelling. This is evident of the fact that they have announced they are making two self-financed IPs. How would this be possible if they were on the verge of bankruptcy? This comment isn't only directed at you so don't take it personally, but it's information that was mistranslated and it's disheartening to see it everywhere.
I don't know why people say it was Microsoft cancelling Scalebound was what bought the company close to bankruptcy when all of Platinum games have sold terribly. Even Bayonetta which was their highest selling game had to become Nintendo exclusive because the first was a financial dud. Platinum are just bad at business, that's all.
Currently playing the first Okami and I'm loving it! I also watched a playthrough a few years if not quite a few years ago and wanted to check it out, as soon as I found out it was on the switch I bought it. Shame that Okami 2 never saw the light...
I personally think that there shouldn't be a direct Okami sequel, as it works beautifully as a standalone game, and a sequel would never be as good as the original. Even though Okamiden isn't a true sequel, it deserves a remake to fix the issues that the ds limitations brought it.
I'm saddened they didn't go with making a new Viewtiful Joe game over Okami. Not that it would've happened either way but that says more about the interest in Viewtiful Joe than anything. But if they gave people an Okami HD port then SUREYLY they could give both Viewitful Joe games the same treatment. Hell, throw in Red Hot Rumble while you're at it.

I think that Okami is fine like it is. (It's too beautiful ** ) I'd rather prefer to see another game LIKE Okami: same aesthetic, japanese folklore, similar mechanics, huge maps to explore, dungeons and so on. Being said that, instead of nothing I'd still prefer an Okami 2 xD
Okami is probably my second or third favorite game of all time, only being beat out by the original Spyro trilogy and the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series. I’ve adored it ever since I first got the PS2 version a decade ago, in 2008 or 2009. I own it on every platform, barring the XBONE as I don’t have one yet but if I ever get one it’ll be one of the first games I get for it. I’ve beaten it countless times along with its sequel and 100% both of them. Needless to say seeing Kamiya’s tweet made me so ecstatic but now knowing it won’t be realized is like getting punched in the gut. The thing that sucks the most is that - Okamiden notwithstanding - since Okami is such a unique experience, there aren’t many similar games I can play that fill the Okami shaped void in my heart. The only two I can think of that come close are Twilight Princess and Legend of Kay, which are great games but sadly they don’t come close to filling the void in my heart. If Okami 2 can’t happen, please let a remaster of Okamiden happen, with analog support and limitations with the DS hardware being fixed and any cut content being put back in. If neither can happen for whatever reason, I’m begging someone who knows what they’re doing to make a spiritual successor. And don’t let it turn out like Yooka-Laylee, which despite being a decent game definitely fell flat in its attempt to emulate what made Banjo Kazooie so great
I never played Okami until about a month ago, people have recommended it to me for years because of its extreme likeness of Zelda especially that of Twilight Princess, what stopped me from playing Okami all these years was that growing up we were poor and also I was mainly a Nintendo Console collector, I can tell you after years of waiting to play Okami, the feel I got from playing it for the very first time was that the game is still relevant and fresh, I feel Okami has a lot of potential, I feel Okami could have exploded into a series, but because of its huge similarity to Zelda I feel is another reason Okami hadn't exploded, and I did my research on it, the developer made Okami simply because of Zelda and implemented the same feel and play style as Zelda, and let's not mention Okami and Twilight Princess coincidentally were released neck and neck from eachother, and that's another big reason why Okami ended up becoming so under appreciated/under rated, because of Zelda being so much more big, Twilight Princess took the cake for being huge and popular, And because it's been 14 years since they've worked with Okami they have a lot of catching up to do, and a lot of competition to face because Of Zelda and how far advanced in technology Nintendo has become with the series, Capcom really would need to think way outside the box to re introduce Okami and more releases, almost like they would need to re-invent Okami as a game as a whole, and having that competition with Zelda is a difficult one, look at where Zelda is at now, with having massive maps implemented and endless exploration, that's the new "thing" now is open world and massive maps and exploration, to bring another Okami into the picture you would need to set it up like that or better than that, waiting 14 years to expand what would have been a highly potential game throws the whole thing outta wack, a lot of money would need to be invested to make Okami 2 and I think that's why the aren't doing it
you know what I never understood? why didn't they port Okami onto the wii U? think about it, it would have just made so much sense, one of the main mechanics was the Celestial Brush , and what does the wii U have? a touch pad that could easily be used for the Celestial Brush, just hold down one of the trigger buttons and then bam scribbles away, with my experience as I went on and unlocked more brushes that it would get confused, like when I wanted it to do the slowmo it would either do a slash, or the wind and Bomb brushes, and it was because I was using the wiimote and my hand shook a little because of how you had to do it, I think putting it on the wii U would have been a really good idea.
I actually do, because while the original Okami was a marvel to the eyes and ears, it was far from perfect. It had pretty bad pacing issues near the end and overall the gameplay was WAAAY too easy, both in combat and puzzle solving, to really consider it engaging. Kamiya is one of those guys that fully understand what made a game great, works its best aspects and make amazing sequels. Okami just needs a bit more TLC to be a masterpiece.
IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!! OKAMI IS BACK!!!
Kinda astonishing how neither Okami nor Viewtiful Joe actually aged visually. A testament of the importance of aesthetics above graphics.

-Bayonetta 3
-Gran blue fantasy
-Babylon's fall
-an unnanouced original IP
-Two different mobile games.
Well not this or next year. But Kamiya's probably focussing on Bayonetta 3 so after next year presumably his team would be free. Would also fit into Capcom's policy after RE7 and DMC V.
We can only guess, we don't even know how far along development Bayonetta 3 is.

Okami and Okamiden are so great!
I hope they make a third game.
For the Switch.
Okami is one of my top 5 games. I would absolutely die for a sequel
Okami has returned
Hopefully Capcom and Platinum can mend this in a few years and work together again.
Also, I really want HD rereleases of Viewtiful Joe now
And here we are with official announcement of okami 2
Nintendo should fund an Okami 2. It wouldn't be the first Platinum Games game for them to do that.
yes but it would be a nintendo exclusive and we don't want that
@@val4128 I wouldn't mind. I'd probably get it on the Switch over any other option.

Well well well... Guess what just happened after all...
Well well well, it looks like the turns have tabled.
Say...
I don’t think that Switch port existed for no reason.
Well of course not, it exists to net a profit.
@@mattwolf7698 Ōkami was never ported to Xbox 360, only Xbox One.

The Okami 2... The Okami 2 is real!
Well...
This can still happen. The success of the remasters might actually make Capcom consider a sequel.
Super If it happens, I doubt it's because of that. They've ported/remastered the thing so many times that if it had any influence, they would've made it by now.
PS2 > Wii > PS3 Remaster > PS4/XBO w 4K > Switch Remaster Port w Motion Controls
They've ported it to every generation for 12 years. Clearly they're aware of the demand, but something would have to change on their end.
mrshmuga9 It was also on the game cube cause it sold poorly on the PS2, apparently it didn't do all that well on the cube either.
+Jack Garcia It was never on the Gamecube.
What the shit, did i travel to an alternate time line? i was positive there was a cube port!
The fuck is going on with my brain these days.

If Okami 2 is great, I hope they do God Hand 2
While I love the Okami franchise, I feeł Okami is a game that is an amazing standalone. I feel it doesnt need a sequel.
I know what you mean. I actually feel the same about my favorite Anime.
C'mon we're still waiting
The wait is over
Bought the Limited Edition of Okami HD for the Switch. Still hoping for more.
WE SO BACK!!!!
I'm still mad at microsoft for scalebound
I honestly think that one was 50/50 for both parties.
When Nier Automata was announced for Xbox One with all the DLCs, I actually assumed it was Platinum's way of saying sorry for people about Scalebound.
GUESS WHOS HOME, BABYYYYY
NO WORRIES MY LADS. AMMY IS BACK!!!!
Here's hoping the project is just slumbering and not dead altogether. I absolutely LOVED Okami, got the Platinum trophy for PS4 recently.
This is a disastrous divorce and Okami is the child that has to endure it..... its been 15 years why mommy and daddy fight so much
Not anymore
Who needs Daddy (Assuming PlatinumGames is the father)?
The child has finally come home and on their own terms this time.
Nice Vid ! I often wonder if Viewtiful Joe is sitting there waiting to be resurrected ! Viewtiful Joe 2 was local co-op and a bit of a stunner !
3:17 Matt and his in-character answer lol
Okami and Viewtiful Joe sequel both on the table and all we got was a HD version of Okami...real tears have been shed today...
It's back... It's so back...
I personally think that there shouldn't be a direct Okami sequel, as it works beautifully as a standalone game, and a sequel would never be as good as the original.
Even though Okamiden isn't a true sequel, it deserves a remake to fix the issues that the ds limitations brought it.
This fucks me up, Okami was such an emotionally important experience to me.
okami 2 will happen. doesn't matter when; IT WILL HAPPEN.
MANIFESTING THIS SO HARD

Okamiden exists .. i am technically correct
AND IT ACTUALLY WILL HAPPEN
If Okami gets a sequel I wish you can play as chibi in 2 player mode
Yeesss I hope it's two player mode! That would be fun!
Only if Okami 2 was real, that would be crazy...
AND NOW IT HAS HAPPENED
I'm saddened they didn't go with making a new Viewtiful Joe game over Okami. Not that it would've happened either way but that says more about the interest in Viewtiful Joe than anything.
But if they gave people an Okami HD port then SUREYLY they could give both Viewitful Joe games the same treatment. Hell, throw in Red Hot Rumble while you're at it.
Almost...
I would LOVE if Platinum Games remade Devil May Cry 1 with Kamiya at the helm.
The combat would be INSANE.
@dreamxhollow honestly, I think the one DMC game that needs a remake is Devil May Cry 2.

I think that Okami is fine like it is. (It's too beautiful ** )
I'd rather prefer to see another game LIKE Okami: same aesthetic, japanese folklore, similar mechanics, huge maps to explore, dungeons and so on.
And don’t let it turn out like Yooka-Laylee, which despite being a decent game definitely fell flat in its attempt to emulate what made Banjo Kazooie so great
Hello everyone....... Okami is back........ *we made it*
If Platinum can't get the rights to Okami, they should just make a spiritual successor.
They did, it’s called World of Demon’s
The devs of Okami created platinum so yeah that makes sense.
And then it happened
THIS AGED LIKE MILK AND I AM SO HAPPY TO DRINK THAT.
It really didn’t. All of it remains factually accurate if you actually watch it.
ITS BACK
i'd love to see followup stories on Oki and his tribe, Kaguya, wth happened with Waka, otohime and what they're up to.
We need a new Okami and Viewtiful Joe game on Switch.
It’s finally happening!!

I want Okami 2 to be open world.
I would kill for an HD remake/ re-release of both VJ games.
I don't know if I want an Okami sequel. The bar is really high
I know exactly what you mean.
