What an amazing resource. Usually I’m only tracing sondes and I’m not a utility locator. Always having locates beforehand; During an excavaton, things can get messy and it’s nice to be able to confirm where things are in the meantime.
Thank you guys giving your time to make useful videos specially to Travis, I appreciate sharing your knowledge with us. I am in trainee in this industry and I learn lot of good stuff from you guys more than in field staff. Subscribed!
What happens if a gas line is on our way of digging? How do i know how deep its buried? Yellow line is kinda 18 inches on my drawing. Are the Yellow lines are accurate? I am in Ontario, Canada
muhammad imran 0 seconds ago How can we download the survey measurement's , i downloaded the RD Manager but there is option of survey measurement's not showing .... could you pls help me about it. Thanks so much..
Did the image at 23:38 show one clamp being used to induct the signal and another clamp some distance away being used to pick up the signal off the pipe and ground it? If so, i am thinking thats a nice solution if you cant ground the cables within the pipe.
Sorry we didn't cover fault locating in the video. Maybe at a later date. The TX-121 Isolation Transformer for phase to phase faults is sort of a specialty part. You should be able to get some 1 on 1 training for it from the outfit that sold you the two kits. Contact Radiodetection if you're unsure of whom to contact. We handle a 9 state territory in the upper Midwest of the USA.

Nothing above will affect a RD unit. Electrical below may be a problem. Every utility inside a building is normally bonded to each other and the building, which causes you to light it all up. Isolating and getting a good ground is key, but inside a building that hard. We may shoot a video soon on this.
how to detect a damaged cable that has a gap between the core without shorting to ground? It is very miles difficult to find the accident in this case.
aHello good morning, I have the doubt to buy the marker in A. Is it compatible with the Spx RD-8000 PDL model? it would be of great help as your videos. greetings from Argentina
Use it in 8kHz or higher. You should be able to hear a high pitched squeal in 8kHz when transmitting. Make sure the transmitter shows a ring clamp icon. If you don't see the ring icon when it's plugged in you could have a faulty connection socket. If you have the icon, don't hear a high pitch tone in 8kHz you could have a faulty ring clamp and it need to be sent in for repair. Maybe you know another locator tech and you can compare.
Every metallic object is reflecting radio waves traveling around the earth and Radio mode will pick this up. Power mode will pick up the 60Hz harmonics produced by live electric lines.
Great video, I learned alot. I'm still having trouble locating Armored Fiber cables. Do you have Any training or thoughts that might help? I've got a RD7100 TL
Make sure the far end of the cable armor is grounded and hook direct to the armor. Make sure you have at least 20mA's transmitting. Use 512Hz or 8kHz. If there are other cables in the same conduit or near by make sure they aren't grounded.
Make sure the fiber sheeth is ground on the far end so your locate signal has somewhere to complete the circuit. Once you lower the resistance you should be able to use 512Hz to avoid bleeding into other lines
Line locating isn't easy. The responsibility of protecting the underground utilities is heavy. Good line locators usually are: 1. Confident Self-starter - much of the time working solo, in diverse locations, able to take initiative and assume responsibility. 2. Technical - sophisticated electronic equipment when locating utilities 3. Personable - skills to be able to deal with wide variety of personalities 4. Attention to Detail - understand reports, utility plans, and documentation visual inspections prior to locating and marking 5. Spatial Awareness - organized knowledge of objects in relation to oneself in that given space 6. Teachable - Staying humble and recognize that there is always something to learn 7. Problem-solver - identify problems quickly and find the best solution to a problem 8. Entrepreneurial - not afraid to get your hands dirty and take pride in your work 9. Realistic - You need to be realistic in assessing you own abilities - you are not superman; you do not have x-ray vision and you can't bend the bars of a jail.
Sorry we don't have a training video on the TX-121. Heres a reference www.radiodetection.com/sites/default/files/TX121-App-Note_03.pdf?_buster=X1hoeT6l
I slipped and completely ate dirt during a locate in freezing rain last year and I watched my RD7100 slide down the road. One truck just drove by like nothing happened (I know that they saw me but just didn’t care). We were both fine in the end; I would never intentionally hurt my favourite tool/toy. I had an earlier version that had a cylindrical rocker that I loved too. That poor soul died in the rain and was too obsolete to replace.
I love stories like this. Once a month I visit Subsurface View Senior Living for RD locators just to listen to the war stories from the days of witching sticks. They don't make 'em like that anymore. ...thank goodness

Much much better than manual. Very happy to find this training. It explains every aspect of the radidetection equipment. Thank you very much.
This is the best utility locating video I have seen. Please keep up the good work! Could you do one with a subsite?

Thank you . This was very informational. I appreciate it.
Appreciate your effort. The video is very informative. Thank You.
If you are here for ground induction, as I was, skip ahead to 27:50. You're welcome :)

Thank you! Excellent demonstration.
Excellent video, thanks Travis
Good video. Thank you Travis.
I Always had problems with were to put the ground rod were is the best place behind infront to the left or right of the transmetter
Place the ground in an isolated area and the opposite direction you plan to locate. Stretch it as far as your cables will allow.
Why did you not locate the hydro service when you showed the ring clamp? please do a ring clamp video locate for primary and secondary services
Great presentation thank you

How can we download the survey measurement's , i downloaded the RD Manager but there is option of survey measurement's not showing .... could you pls help me about it. Thanks so much..
Does it detects gold and gems?
No, but you'll find lots of copper, steel & cast iron
Please can I use this detector to locate illegal pipe connections on a distribution pipe network. Thank you
The regular RD7200 or RD8200 may work as long as the pipe has continuity. Not plastic.
Did the image at 23:38 show one clamp being used to induct the signal and another clamp some distance away being used to pick up the signal off the pipe and ground it? If so, i am thinking thats a nice solution if you cant ground the cables within the pipe.
The other ring is a Receiver ring clamp to verify the correct cable. It doesn't help ground the cable.
Could these videos be used in a class room setting for training?
Use what you want. It's our donation to Damage Prevention
Yes

Can you do one on the RD8200 G ? Would like to know more about GPS mapping. Thank you
Coming very soon.

Can we check non metalic cables through this
Hi, what is the best frequency for locating Fibre optics and coaxial cable for rogers? Thanks. Hope you notice this.
Any lower frequency. 512Hz is used a lot for fiber. Just make sure the other end is grounded.
512Hz if the far end is grounded. However, if you're around underground power lines you may want to move it a little higher to avoid interference.
Can I do fault locating with the DL? Mine does have the port to connect to the a frame
No only the TL & PL series can fault locate
Could radio detection be used indoors for slab on grade projects?
Yes, no problem
@@travisberan7010 the rebars, wire mesh and all electrical from above wouldn’t cause it to bleed off?

If this is a electrical primary you can use a thumper. If this is any other type of cable you can possibly use a TDR (Time Domain Reflectometer).
I live in the uk and currently working for a major electricity company
thanks friend
Thank you! This was excellent!
Can you guys make a video showing how to locate with the 8100 inside of a house looking for waterlines
That's a good idea. I'll add that to my list.

Yes it is compatible
I’m confused about the clamp. Every time I use it I get no signal at all! I’ve been told by everyone it just clamps on and works.
Use it in 8kHz or higher. You should be able to hear a high pitched squeal in 8kHz when transmitting. Make sure the transmitter shows a ring clamp icon. Yes. I have three of them. ua-cam.com/video/edhDW6hzvEk/v-deo.htmlsi=9GLnvrhR7Q0gdKsz
