Got mine last December (2023) for euro 1599 with S20-60 and S50 f1.8, that is cheaper than the body only Fujifilm X-T5 that I am looking at to upgrade my X-T1. I just decided to drop the idea and buy the entire kit and I will say, I am glad I did. I now have a Full Frame packed with features and 2 superb lens. I also started exploring videos and the Hi-Res mode. Thank you!
I just had your video pop up in my feed. Good video and nice shots. I purchased the S5 last year after my research revealed that the S5 allows for the 65:24 crop in camera. I had been down the path of thinking about a Fuji for that reason but that is a big kit with a big price tag for that. I have enjoyed the S5s quality even with the 20-60 kit lens which I find a very useful range for the 65:24 crop and the camera/lens combo is about the same size as my Olympus E-M1 Mk II with a 12-40 lens. Cheers.
Im pleased you enjoyed it! Yes, I used to own the Fuji GFX 50S mainly for the 65:24 crop but it was a huge setup - and expensive! I really don’t miss the camera but I did miss the 65:24 crop but I’m pleased to say that the S5 solved that problem…. And the 20-60 lens is great for panoramic shots! Interesting that it’s the same size as your EM1 mkii and 12-40 lens (that’s another lovely camera!)
I am sure you will love it! I used to own the XT2 (took it on a big trip to NZ with me)... great camera but I definitely prefer the Panasonic! Enjoy getting to know your new camera!
Thank you Jason, due to work then rubbish weather on my days off I've not been able to get out yet. Do you have a link for the L bracket you bought please? Thank you.
I am on the same boat but upgraded from X-T1. Instead of buying the body only X-T5, I decided to buy the S5 with S 20-60 and S50 f1.8 for euro 1599 which is cheaper than X-T5 alone. Very little to no tweak at all, the Jpegs are stunning. What I had learned is I don't really need the Film Simulation, I enjoy using the S5, It is even smaller than Fujifilm X-H series...
Jason, Interesting what you share about loving the latest Panasonics' colors. Chris Nichols, who we all know from DPReview days, also shared in a comparison he thought Panasonic's colors were his favorite.
I love the colours coming for the Panasonic Crag… I’ve used a lot of different systems (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji and Olympus) and Panasonic colours are by far my favourite (well it’s a closer race with the Fujis but I prefer the Panasonic files)
Nice that you have the S5 Jason, I've had mine for 2 years, do portfolio shoots with it, I use the Panasonic S 35mm f1.8 but the 20-60 is also great.. I'm amazed at the sharp IQ that the sensor produces without the AA filter.... but, I'm going to start doing landscape to sell online... was about to also buy a used Sony A7Riii specifically for that purpose as many people say I will need the Landscape Images to have extra resolution... I'm Interested to note that you say you sold ALL of your Sony's? Do you not feel that the Sony A7Riii is needed compared to the IQ of the S5 for landscape? Kind regards, Jeff
Hi Jeff. Sorry for the delayed response… I’ve been up in Scotland shooting with the S5! I’ll be honest, I sell my photos for stock photography and prints… sometimes large prints… and I’ve never felt that 24mp is an issue. I don’t miss the resolution of the A7Riii on the slightest - apart from cropping ability. When shooting with the S5 I have to get everything (composition wise) spot on but with the Sony I did sometimes shoot a little bit wider than required just to refine the composition in post. One side thought.., when I first started, I had a client that wanted an A1 print of one of my images which I got printed for them and it looked fantastic. The camera I used was the Canon EOS 10D - which had 6MP. So a short answer is.., no I don’t personally think the IQ of the Sony is required and I actually prefer the ‘look’ of the Panasonic. But really it’s all down to personal choice.
@@JasonFriendPhotography Hi Jason, Yep the 'Look' of Images Is important as well, I've been doing portrait photography for the past 19 years now, always used Nikon and Canon for the pleasing colours straight from the camera.. Panasonic M43 from way back in 2010 and done amazing photoshoots with a 16mp Micro four thirds sensor.. however, I'm just getting into doing Landscapes and felt that a High Res would be better... but I'll see how I get on with my S5 , If I was to go High Res then I'd probably get a Nikon Z7 as I find the Sony A7 series have some washed out colours with a Green Tint..! The 'Look' is Important.. All the best, Jeff
Depends how much and how often you choose to crop. Also the S5 has brilliant weather sealing while the a7RIII has poor weather sealing - which might be important for outdoor / landscape work. Also great to hear you like the Lumix 35mm 1.8 - I was thinking of getting that lens.
I don’t think it would bring much to the party! The af would be welcomed for video (the mk1 does ok at a push) but for stills, especially on a tripod, the mk1 does me proud.

Stunning work, my friend! 👏🏽
Thank you very much!
Literally just bought this camera and lens today, switching from the Fujifilm xt2, can't wait to get out with the new system

Very nice Video. As a landscapephotographer you gave me some good words to get it now. I'll take it with a sigma 28-70mm.
Thank you! I really considered the 28-70 - looks a great lens. I went for the 24-105 but I think the 28-70 would be really flexible
Just viewed your video which was great. For landscape photography how weather proof is it.

Would the S5ii even make sense for you? Maybe as the video camera, but for stills, not sure.
