  • In this video, I install a carpet kit in a '68 Plymouth Valiant.The process is largely the same for a Duster, Dart or other A-body.The carpet color is Gold.
    The carpet is from ACC, which is resold by many vendors.

      Thanks! This car wasn't optioned with carpet originally. It had a speckled rubber mat which Plymouth optimistically referred to as a "rubber carpet"..even though it wasn't carpet. I have had to develop a color palette for the interior on my own because nothing is available anymore.

    I like your loop. What type is it and where did you get it? I have a 74 Plymouth Valiant and am looking for a loop carpet replacement.

      @@TylersNeighborhoodGarage I was surprised my floorboards looked the way they did in 1970 when the car was new. I got lucky.

    Something I always noticed about A body Mopars was the lack of sound deadening materials in and around and under carpeting. I guess that was an extra $ option when ordering the Dart and Valiant.

      There isn't much. 2 large pieces under the carpet, one on the underside of the cowl, one across the firewall, two on each end of the firewall and two behind the kickpanels.

    That same color carpet would be a perfect match for the interior of the Dart.

      Interestingly enough, that car came with black carpet. THIS car should have had a deep brown carpet to match the dash, but I thought that would make the interior too dark and dreary, so I decided to go with a lighter shade of carpet.

      Tyler's Forgotten Car Rescue The gold carpet looks great. These projects provide great opportunities to learn new skills. I’m the 1960s and 1970s, every other car in Detroit was a Valiant or Dart, now you don’t see many unless they’re collector muscle cars.

    Where did you get carpet is that cut pile..... I got some carpet from ACC for my 74 charger and I was not happy with it rather like the look of what you put down on this car even if it may not be original to my year.

    • @TylersNeighborhoodGarage
      @TylersNeighborhoodGarage  4 роки тому +1

      Whenever you order carpet, you should be presented with choices regarding style and color. The style shown here is 80/20 loop which is found in pre-75 or so Mopars. You can simply choose the cut pile option when ordering.

    Is that material close to what was originally used? I remember my dad ranting how 'cost effective' the cars were when he bought one new and it had a rubberized padding material that wasn't even really carpet. And of course the cheapest one available at the dealership didn't even have a radio. Modern materials will probably last longer I imagine. Looking like a great premold kit.

    If you can sew, maybe that skill can come in handy if you cut out the wrong thing?

    • @TylersNeighborhoodGarage
      @TylersNeighborhoodGarage  4 роки тому

      It might, but I haven't learned that skill yet. The key is to cut little slivers as you go, not big swaths.
