    Your demos are very good. The whole process is clear. I did not know how that cutting machine worked but now I know the paper needs a cutting mat under it. It works like a CNC machine or wood router. Nice. These glass panels look very professionally done. Fairly easy process, but finding a good heat press.... is a huge challenge!

    Great video thank you! Very detailed instructions! Also I saw on a Conde Systems video for subbing onto acrylic to prevent the sublimation release paper from sticking they recommended using high release, text print paper like Text Print XP for Epson printers or Text Print R papers for Rico, Virtuoso SG 400/800 printers and the paper would not stick to the substrate that way. Thanks for all you do!

      Light scatter was BAD due to the source I used. It certainly was not a good example, but I Couldn't see that until I was editing the video. It was too bright (studio light) and at 5500K, way too high in color temperature. in hind-sight, I should have used one of the accent lamps from one of my studio back drops.

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  11 місяців тому +1

      No. A plastic cutting board is made from HDPE. Pretty much nothing sticks to this and for sublimation, there would need to be a coating to absorb the dye. The sublimation coating would not stick to the HDPE.

I have just gotten into sublimation and this will be a great project for me. I do have one question if you do not mind me asking. How much pressure are you using with the heat press. I have one similar to yours as well as the Cricut easy press. Oh, and if I using the easy press, would I still use the same heat settings as with the regular heat press? Thank you again and God bless!!

    • @rogersshop

      Fairly heavy pressure is used on the heat press. While you "can" use an Easy Press, it is difficult to maintain the heavy pressure, without moving, for the allotted time. I did a video on this a while back sublimating to canvas. time and temp are the same.

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  2 роки тому +1

      I've had a few comments on this and have been experimenting since May to try and reproduce this. Black seems to be the most common to blur/bleed. I think time and temperature combination is a contributor to this. If presses to long and too hot, it will blur over time. If too short or not hot enough, it will blur/bleed pretty quick. Different inks also react differently. My research continues............

    This is interesting. I see you successfully sublimated on white vinyl. I've seen people have trouble with the ink taking to white vinyl in the past, though. Is it because it's an outdoor/matte vinyl? I also saw you mentioned in the comments that it won't take well to HTV, which is the problem I've seen. Do you know what the difference is between what adhesive vinyl is made from that can be sublimated on what HTV is made from that doesn't allow the ink to sublimate to it?

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  Рік тому

      I am by no means an expert on the chemical composition of different polymers, but do know that this is not suitable for HTV as HTV was never intended too be used this way. HTV is designed to be heat transferred to fabric or other porous materials.

    Question- Once the image is sublimated on vinyl and heat pressed onto the trivet are there special washing instructions that need to be followed? • @rogersshop

      Probably not recommended, but my wife runs these on the top rack of the dishwasher and we haven't had any problems. Hand wash is probably still best. As far as submerging in water, no problems so far, but not left for long periods. We have one that is left on our outdoor bar and it gets rained on all the time. Note that this will eventually fade when left out in direct sun for a long period.

      Direct sublimation without a backing substrate other than the backing paper? This can be tricky. Lower temperature to 360 F and press no more than 40 seconds with light pressure. Allow to cool before separating and the paper will probably stick to the vinyl. Can be easily removed if soaked in water, but this also softens the backing paper. A Waterslide decal paper might work out better for this application.

      Yes, and I'm going to be making a video covering this. You are not the first to mention this, so I did a lot of experimenting to try and recreate the problem. There are several things that can cause this, but humidity is not one of them. We have plenty of that here! Time and temperature of the actual press has been one of the common denominators. Too long, too short, too hot, or not hot enough, have all made this happen and I'm still working on some more test pieces experimenting with different vinyl and inks. I started these trials in May to try and reproduce these problems, including placing some in direct hot sun outdoors. Not quite done yet............

      There are a lot of variables here. Ink brand, density, paper type, pressure, time, vinyl brand, etc. So hard to nail down any one thing. Print density on the sublimation paper would be the first place to start. Use the highest quality setting when printing and if high speed or bidirectional printing is an option on your printer, turn it off.

      A lot of variables possible here. First to look at is print quality and density on the sublimation paper. Use highest quality setting possible and turn off any high speed or bidirectional options. Set paper option to Premium Presentation Paper Matte. Let print dry at least 30 minutes before sublimating.

      Not HTV. HTV is more for fabrics. It melts on glass due to long press time and does not adhere well at all. We use premium outdoor permanent vinyl like Oracle 651 or 751. Siser and Cricut also work, but in my opinion, the colors do not come out as vivid.
