My beautiful Filipina wife of the past 50 years has her family home close by the beach off the west coast of Zambales, with absolutely gorgeous sunsets. And a mango tree in the back yard that has the best mangoes you can imagine. Life is good at times. All I want and need.
Beautiful people, scenery to die for, a community spirit, uncrowded beaches, healthy local food and affordable rent. What more can one ask for as a retiree.
It is a really nice place. The wife and I bought a 500 sq mtr lot. It cost allot less than lots in Iloilo city. We have 2 mango trees and a star apple tree on the lot and of course banana's. We plan on building a small house there.
Wow. Your Vlog is really convincing me to retired in the Philippines. Missing my home country. The people are super nice and welcoming.. missing the food. Such a beautiful country. I'm super proud to be a Filipino
I’ll say this, I think you present things in a good light. I live here, I know of at least 3 other times you have been here. I’ve met the guy next door to Punta Villa , he’s pretty nice . Thank you for sharing this
That second narrow swimming pool is a lap pool not a kids pool. Definitely high status. I like your videos. Casual and filled with cool locations and facts.
Thank you for sharing your blogs and videos and giving us more information about this amazing festival in one of the beautiful places of the Philippines which we were able to to witness through you . 😊
Wow Michael you know how to eat mango. Looks very juicy and sweet. Ours here in Vancouver are from Mexico they call Manila Style Mango but not juicy and very expensive.
I was born in Iloilo City but we live in Guimaras Island in Jordan until I was 5 years old. Our house was over water when high tide was made of Bamboo with bamboo flooring and nipa roof. My sisters and brother used to jump off the back of the house in high tide to swim. We were less than a mile from the main Guimaras port. I heard our house no longer exists and is now landfilled to extend the land.
What a beautiful island. What a fantastic time. I have a little more than 3 weeks until my Philippine life starts and the more I watch your videos, I am becoming less sure of my decision to move to Dumaguete. Mike if you were coming to stay for the first time and want to make it a permanent home where would you go? I will be on a budget, I don't want to pay more than 20k rent, and would love to be close to the beach.
Duma is still a good spot because they have a lot of good places to rent that have everything you might be looking for. Things is, it's all depends what you hope to find, best beach, best mountain life, best nightlife, best expat hang outs ect. It's really hard to recommend without knowing a lot more
For the first six months it really is better not to commit permanently to any one place. You can use it as a base to get out and explore the rest of the PI. Once you get your feet wet a bit, determine what appeals to you the most and then find the area that best offers it. You'll always have to make compromises, but if you do it wisely and slowly you'll manage to find what works for you and makes you happy.
I appreciate your videos which are insightful, helpful, honest and straightforward. It’s my hope to come join you in a similar area. Your videos are helping me to choose where to live.
Always go to the big cities like Cebu and Manila first, your plane will land there anyway so get a feel for the big cities then come to the province areas,if you like excitement check out Moalboal and Oslob in Cebu
I could probably chuck down 10 mangoes 😅. When i was young i could eat a basin full of green mangoes another variety called hawaiian and indian mango, its crunchy sweet and sour type. We have lots of different varieties of mangoes, but the Philippine mango is very sweet when its fully ripe, very sour when its green
🥭🥭🥭 Did you ask about a PRESS PASS, Michael? Festival Organizers should have a Committee for this task, esp when Marketing & PR is one of the event's key objectives.
Grea videos, but please, ALWAYS insert a map screenshot or at least a link to the map location. Better yet, create a list of places you recommend on google map and share it
That puto bumbong is soooo special and so cheap! The ones i tried here in BC are just simple, just the coconut topping and its already tasty. Never tried mango pizza yet, if hawaiian pizza is delicious, how much more a mango one. I love Philippine mangoes, ive heard its in the Guinness record
Nice hotel room, toilet seat included! Love me some mango shakes, especially the Philippine Mangos. What was that at 22:22? Looks like Ube with leche flan and cheese. Looked good! Scharwma..lol...Yep, there goes the diet! lol...How much were the tickets for the mango eating event? Great video, thanks for sharing Michael...Jim
great vid thanks, ive been to iloilo 3 times, never made it past the mall there haha. how do you dind the tour operators there? my wife sems to think just go there and look around. i prefer to have a plan so im not driving aimlessly and seeing nothing. Oh we visited the churches, pretty cool 👍
Iloilo is a city so generally you don't need a tour operator but in provinces including this province tour operators are the way to see as much as possible it's true
Been doing without since we arrived but with Iloilo we hired a taxi to show us the churches while there. As for Guimaro island never got to see it. Pretty modern city, i enjoyed it. thanks for the response, great video 👍😊
MY girlfriend came from buenavista and she has The sweetest Mango trees on a few of her properties. We call one property "CASA DI PAHU " HOUSE OF MANGO
Really depends on what you like, already have a wife and want to raise a family? Single and looking for lots of social places busy all the time? Love cooler weather or hot weather? I have my favorites of Iloilo city and Roxas city because I love small cities but also lots of others like Bataan, Tagaytay too
@@ThatPhilippinesLife You may be right, but we'll never know. Have you ever been to an orange grove in Florida, where they have fresh squeezed on tap? I stood there for a half hour, and kept feeding in nickles for a refill. So different from what you can buy in the stores in PA, unless you squeeze your own.
To let you know Filipino style is to leave the new stickers and tags on the TV even obscuring the same.. until I fall off or until some tourist tears them off this is to show that their new when really they're not!
Haha well these are definitely new, and I'm sure they will be taken off by opening day, if you ever been to Punta villa in Iloilo you would see it's super nice there
China and the Philippines should be allies, I don't understand. The people and the culture is so similar, they are all from the same family. I can see it's very peaceful there as in China...
Oh wow never new you could peel a mango by hand and eat I was going to ask you do they peel the mangoes for you to eat, those mangoes must be easy to peel you can't do that with a mango you buy in canada
When i make it to a tropical country and being a chef that will be my mission to discover tropical fruit and taste when its ripe just like being in the okanagan and eating all the fresh ripe fruit as coming into season i bet bananas taste so much better there as the ones we get in canada are picked very ripe just like tomatoes their picked really green

Not yet but looking forward to going soon
Is the weather typically humid, hot or hotter? You appear to not do well in the high humidity and extreme heat.
WOW the size/portion and toppings of that Puto Bumbong is something else! 👏😎
Where is the mango float my favourite
I'm sure it was there somewhere

That plate of food looked great. Not so sure about the pizza.
The bridges connecting Guimaras to Panay and Negros will start construction soon.
Soil testing taking place as we speak to determine footings
Oh! so its the new Punta Villa Resort in Guimaras ..I wonder if its the same owner as Punta Villa Resort in Iloilo?.
Same owners yes
What is the vest city in your opinion to settle in ?

Wow...I should try how many mangoes I can eat in half an hour 😂 Good thing you didn’t get mango stains on your white shirt.
The first time I tried mango I thought it tasted like a cheesy peach. Uh, that was the last time too.
You need to try one of these you'll be sold on them

Mike, I noticed I did not see a lot of expats. In this part of the Philippines, is there an expat community?
The island has a few, but the festival lasts 3 weeks so maybe not as many this day. I only saw about 10.total this time. Small population overall also
