GS is the man. He knows the strengths and weaknesses of these planes and used what he could tactically. Yes the f15 wrecks the f4 in every way but in tactics.. well.. this shows how important that can be. For a fighter pilot it's life and death
I remember in the late 70s when the reservists were still flying F4s. The old guys were routinely defeating newbies in F15s and F16s in mock combat simply because they were more experienced in their mounts and some had seen combat in Vietnam.
Shoot, USMC flew F-4s up until about 1986! Re-worked F-4Js (N and S) The "S" had leading edge slats that improved higher (lol) AoA. But they were maintenance SLUTS! Total whores for wrenches and NDI (X-ray). Many were hangar queens due to airframe over G.

I remember telling people to not sleep on the F-4. It's old, but it's still a Mach 2 class fighter with BVR capability and it will kill you if you don't respect it.
When GS said "...this thing is just a giant brick", I was reminded of reading somewhere that the Phantom was "proof that given enough power, even a brick can fly".
I'll imagine there will be tons of gnashing of teeth, but when the F-15 was still new, plenty of F-4 drivers "shot down" F-15s in drills like Red Flag, etc. My father (a RIO) and his driver bagged five in one excercise.

The F4 Phantom in my opinion is one of the most fantastic designs That has flown in combat. Looking at it with all its different angles is just awesome. It has to be one of the most unique designs ever created. It is definitly past its prime in the modern era of fighter bomber aircraft but still holds that super cool look that hasnt been attempted or acheived since. Great video showing that the skill of the pilot as well as the patience is just as important as the aircraft that they are flying.
First great job! Your descriptions of the aerial fight really help to teach everyone what to do to win in dogfight! When you take on a foe who is obviously in a newer and better fighter and still come out on top it shows how you have turned into a really good, even excellent sim fighter pilot and a very worthy teacher as well!
I agree, but I am not expert. I have however watched a few former actual fighter pilots offer high praise for our man's BFM skills. Classroom elements hold true... That's why the military trains it's pilots using Sims like dcs.. Which, at one point, was used to train A-10 Pilots if I am mistaken.
Great engagements! Proof that keeping the Rhino "fast" works! A "clean" F-4 could do 8.5g. But would really bleed energy. The key is keeping your speed above 350knts, and preferably near corner speed around 420kts IAS. Try a Mig-21 vs F-4 energy fight in the vertical. You will kill the 21 on the second circle....
This fight reminds me of when I was a young A1C stationed at Keflavik NAS Iceland when the Fresno Air Guard came out there with their F-4 Phantoms. I heard the pilots were really good and they really enjoyed tagging along with our 57th FIS F-15 alert crews intercepting the Russian Bear bombers. The FIS pilots called the F-4’s ‘lead sleds’ because they were too heavy to rate fight. Thanks GS… another classic video!!!
Again, I'm impressed with the Phantom. I was surprised after the fight with the F-14, but thought the F-15 would have an easier time of it. Great piloting! Idea for a future video: would love to see some ground attacks with the Su-25. CAS, a strike mission, anything. I've only ever seen you use it in dogfights and would love to see how it compares to the Hog or the Strike Eagle in a ground attack role. Appreciate all your hard work!!!
Good bedtime entertainment. Thank you GS. I don't play DCS and I just because of a weird yt recommendation I endet up with you about a year ago. Would be interesting to switch planes on this „underdog“ fights for a last round to really see the difference of the planes. Always hear you sayin „this was luck“ but i always think to my self „no luck just damn good skill“ . Thanks for this good videos!
I got over a thousand hours in the F4 s. Some in the hard wing J model. This was absolutely a perfect fight. To shoot down a F 15 , whose real dogfight numbers are 104 to nil. Favor of the F 15. That was unbelievable. Fighting in the vertical is hard and it’s super easy to lose sight. You are the Red Baron
Surprised the Eagle didn't destroy the F 4 in a Vertical-only 2 circle, considering it's thrust to weight ratio- it should have been able to out rate vertically, the F 4 i'd think- ...
It really is all about the pilot. A buddy of mine who flew F-15's said when he first started flying the jet and was based in Europe German F-4 pilots who had been flying their equipment for years wiped the floor with him until he got some experience.
I would love to see these types of videos where you swap planes for the last dogfight or two to see if A. your opponent learned anything about how to maneuver the worst aircraft, and B. to see what the dogfight looks like with you in the better aircraft. I get the point of these is to challenge yourself, but it would be a nice reward for those of us who stuck through to the end of the video.
This fight happened in 1984 with f-15 shooting 1 phantom down. Only time two american aircrafts went against each other. Both made by McDonnell Douglas.
It was the first jet produced that was intended to be strictly a BVR fighter and interceptor. No gun required, it just needs a good radar, high speed, and lots of guided missiles. In that respect, it was perfectly designed for that role. Unfortunately, much in the same way that all fist fights end up on the ground, all dogfights end up as gunfights, and the rules of the day were such that guided missiles were not going to be successful. The F-4 was, in a lot of ways, ahead of its time, and when it finally would have been its time, we had the F-14, and the F-15 was not far behind. It never stood a chance as a dogfighter, but it did something that was just as important; it taught us how to dogfight in age of supersonic jets and guided missiles.
That's an interesting reaction because to me the F4 is the first of the recognizably modern U.S. built fighter aircraft, the basal common ancestor with all the core features, ending the sort of Cambrian experiments of the Century series fighters.
it is the direct ancestor of the F-15. No F-4, no F-15. Big radar interceptors, both carry immense ordinance loads. Both have a great range. Both excel at ground attack. Both were (are?) the pre-eminent fighters of their eras.
The F-4 may be a brick but it’s a brick with a heck of a lot of thrust attached. It’s worst noting it held speed and altitude records that even some modern fighters can’t achieve.
When I was in the Navy back in the day, it was rumored that the top speed of an F-4 was never attained due to the J79 draining the tanks too quickly. Don't know if it was true or not, a great urban legend though.
You basically had him the first time if you hadn't been talking, and then you went on to take out the 15. With a pod.. this has to be your best video. You are amazing to watch, should have been a real pilot.
Amazing flying as always GS, this just shows that no matter against how inferior aircraft you're flying you absolutely mustn't let it get to your head and fly as if you would against an equal machine. In the end, it's the pilot that makes the difference.
Can't believe the F-4 is faster than the F-15, at least you got the skills GS. 34th time to suggest a BVR combat or dogfight of MiG-29 against an Su-57 to compare their turn rates, tech differences and more importantly, the pilot skills. Keep it up man!
Original Red Dawn 1984 Recreation, F-15, pilot Andy Tanner (Powers Boothe), took out 3 of 5 hostile Russian Aircraft (Unspecified Aircraft, there were makeshift “Yak-38s” in film) before being shot down, a recreation would be cool, as that scene wasn’t in film. Whatever comes will be both enjoyable and instructive, keep up awesome work!
When the DCS F-16 was first released, on content provider was SO angry, complaining about the flight model. He did the bank and yank every single time, bleed off ALL of his energy and the T/W fighter would give him a golden show, every single time. Looks like this pilot did the same thing. He tried to 360 no-scope you, but just bled off everything and just hung himself out to dry. All he had to do was vertical with you! Got his fangs too far out I guess.
This is very little different than the 318 FIS Detachment at Castle AFB (out of McChord AFB) fighting the Fresno Air National Guard (FANG) back in the late 1980s. The FANG flew F-4s and the 318th flew F-15s. FANG regularly beat the 318th. But, the FANG pilots were Vietnam veterans and the 318th guys were Active Duty with no combat experience.
It always makes me chuckle how the "civilians" on the ground just keep driving around like nothing is happening overhead. I'd be parked on the roadside watching if that was real life.
Also, noticed a slight problem for the F15 in general. It is normally "avoid the nose"... but with the off-set gun-pod of the F4, the "nose" isn't the problem. The thought of "avoiding the nose" still rings true, but it is also the "off-set aspect" that places you in a position of one where "the nose" isn't the TRUE threat up close, you need to avoid a wider area than you would normally think, and both times the F15 got caught in that "off-set area" that left him open, but not quite "off the nose" either.
At an Iranian Air Force base that still operates the F-4, they duty officer had to go down to the ready room to find out what all the cheering and yelling was about.

Look, American brickmakers deserved to get in on the USAF defence contract gravy train.
@@hoilst265 lol. Love it!
it is the direct ancestor of the F-15. No F-4, no F-15. Big radar interceptors, both carry immense ordinance loads. Both have a great range. Both excel at ground attack. Both were (are?) the pre-eminent fighters of their eras.
GS, if you eject down at a low enough altitude, it will save on burial costs. You'll be self-planting!
That first kill was the most epic spray and pray I've seen on this channel LOL
Loved your statement about fighting the pilot and not his aircraft.
The F-4 may be a brick but it’s a brick with a heck of a lot of thrust attached.
It’s worst noting it held speed and altitude records that even some modern fighters can’t achieve.
Yo GS, digging the F4 spotlight. Way to go with the underdog victories. Thanks again. Keep it up. Have a pleasant day. Cheers.
As someone who’s favorite jets are the phantom and eagle, I love this.

When I was in the Navy back in the day, it was rumored that the top speed of an F-4 was never attained due to the J79 draining the tanks too quickly. Don't know if it was true or not, a great urban legend though.
So happy to see the F-4 getting the love these days.
I'm a big F-4 fan. My Dad was Crew Chief on RF-4C tail number 68-0567. The RF-4 was the reconaissance version.
Please do this fight from f-15 POV to show how easy it is to beat the f-4 if you manage your engery
Seems Sidewinder too goes by the good old saying: It's not the plane, it's the pilot.
Your videos get me through the day mate
Glad to be of service man.
F-15 vs 5 MiG-21(Yak-38)
I thought he got 4 of 5
@@grimmWednesday he may have, I remember he got majority of them. Thanks for correcting
Looks badass with that SUU-23 on the center line.
You know some ACM went down like this in the 80s with Vietnam vets in the ANG vs some Rookie active duty USAF Eagle Drivers.
You've done modern vs. WW2 before. What about an F-14 Tomcat vs. Japanese Zero(s), like from the weird old movie 'Final Countdown'?
It always makes me chuckle how the "civilians" on the ground just keep driving around like nothing is happening overhead. I'd be parked on the roadside watching if that was real life.
Also, noticed a slight problem for the F15 in general. It is normally "avoid the nose"... but with the off-set gun-pod of the F4, the "nose" isn't the problem. The thought of "avoiding the nose" still rings true, but it is also the "off-set aspect" that places you in a position of one where "the nose" isn't the TRUE threat up close, you need to avoid a wider area than you would normally think, and both times the F15 got caught in that "off-set area" that left him open, but not quite "off the nose" either.
with the f-4 i think the rule of thumb is "go fast, and eat a fox 2" or maybe if get lucky "i cant see him behind the nose!"
Outstanding work. The F-4 is a great aircraft. I can't wait to see the Heat Blur Phantom. I recommend F-4 vs Bandit Unknown 4 rounds.
If an F-15C merged with an F-4, then the F-15C pilot was likely flying drunk.
At an Iranian Air Force base that still operates the F-4, they duty officer had to go down to the ready room to find out what all the cheering and yelling was about.
Love the kill cams
Great dogfights - would like to see A-4 vs F-4 as well!
The JSDF operated the F4 until 2020,so would be cool to see F4 vs the Chinese flanker.
Very nice! Went 2 out of 3 when totally outclassed.
interesting that none of the Fox2s tracked you :D
Whooooooo thanks GS I've been waiting for this fight
1st round (definition of spray and pray) 😍😍
Fighting the pilot. He never saw it coming!
As Chuck Yeager said "It's the man not the machine:
They just never learned patience.
My man just shot down a f15 with a freaking phantom...crazy... Proves the point that the pilot is what wins dogfights
"Anything can beat anything"
Let's go, Messerschmitt Me 262 vs F22!!
You'd be better off with a FW-190A or a Bf109F-4
Spray & Pray on that first kill...lol
