- Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce release of a Deluxe 3 Disc CD & DVD set of the reunion concert by the legendary Welsh band Man. Recorded as part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations of the famous Marquee Club, the performance was the official reunion of the group who had come together following a five year hiatus with a line-up of Micky Jones (guitar/vocals), Deke Leonard (guitar/vocals), Martin Ace (bass/vocals) and John Weathers (drums/vocals). Captured by the Rolling Stones Mobile recording studio and filmed by a TV crew, the audio and visual recordings captured Man in blistering form. The 24-track tapes of the evening's performance have been newly mixed and the video footage has been newly edited to form the first ever release of Man's entire performance of that night on both CD and DVD. "Live at the Marquee" is a fitting tribute to a fine band and the wonderful musicianship of (the late) Micky Jones, Deke Leonard, Martin Ace and John Weathers and features a performance of classic Man material from beginning to end - an essential addition to the Man discography. The DVD featured in this set is in NTSC and Region Free format and playable in any country.

I was there! Hitched from Sheffield just for the day. Stood at the back wall with a pint and a “J”, turned to my right and Fish was standing next to me! Ended up kipping in a field at Brent’s Cross after walking out of London that night. Well worth it.
Man, Wishbone Ash and Mott the Hoople were a nailed-on guaranteed great gig in the early 70s and saw them all so many times but Man were always my favourites. Not too much footage of the Greasy Trucker period which is when I saw them mainly but this is well up to scratch. So sad we've lost the key players. They were one of those bands, like early Hawkwind, who you felt they were paying for the joy of it rather than just the money so every gig was a genuine experience for them and us. Never bettered and rarely matched. xx
Excellent comment which spoke for me too. Another band which played for the joy of it was Osibisa. Golden period for live music. Nobody could call their music joyous but they loved playing nevertheless: Barclay James Harvest. The strangest pairing was Barclay James Harvest as support act to Osibisa at UCW Aberystwyth. Unforgettable including for the bomb scare which we think was done by someone wanting to get in for free at the restart.
Great statement Man were amazing live , so much better in the early 70's , Wishbone Ash, they both influenced so many bands moving to the current day

Wow, I was at this concert. I was 18 at the time. That's many moons ago.
A new bf I was seeing at that time took me to this concert. I actually didn't know much about Man or had listened to their music.
But I was liking rock and progressive rock like Rush and Yes.
As far as I can remember I think I enjoyed myself but afterwards I didn't really look more for their music to listen to Which is a mistake on my part.
Recently I read something about the Marquee in London and it brought back the memory that I had been to the Marquee that one time to see this band in May '83. So I came looking for it on YT. And it's like omg, I remember It is So weird seeing this.
I can only remember bits and pieces but I think it was standing room only, there was drinking and I am sure there was smoking.
And I vaguely Remember no shirt guy. Lol
We were standing more at the side of the crowd further back from the stage.
Now seeing this video I can appreciate much more what a brilliant band they are. I will have to listen to more of their work as I haven't done so.

Wow... just wow!!! I'm amazed that this didn't make it onto the video all those years ago. I first saw the boys back in 1973 at Liverpool stadium. My boyfriend was a huge fan. I still am!!!

What a Superb Band !!!!!! Saw em loads and I think I was at this Gig (always stoned or pissed in the 80's :-) RIP Micky and Deke !!! Also saw their reunion gig at the Putney Half Moon last week and they Were Brilliant !!!!!!!!!! Man lives on !!!!

Wow! Not surprised the late great John Cipollina joined the band circa 1975.
Damn, this takes me back. Saw Man a number of times back in the mid to late 70s. Still have every vinyl album up through All's Well. Was lucky enough to grab the DVD of this show, and the soundtrack recently. What a band. Micky Jones was one of the finest guitar players ever, and Deke Leonard more than holds his own here. Best Man band combo out of many fine, fine iterations.

Memories. I head banged to this back in the day. I tried it just now but it's not the same without hair.
Great stuff, my introduction to an even longer version was on The Greasy Truckers album , of the early 70's. Man's sound constantly evolved (listen to The Welsh Connection), but this was back to basics and excellent. One small thing though, nobody could match or replace the brilliant Terry Williams on drums!
A brilliant performance by MAN! What a fabulous band. I saw MAN live in concert 5 times and they were always superb. Deke and Micky sounded great together and John (who did a great job of filling Terry's shoes) and Martin made a super rhythm here. This band is greatly missed.
The best pop band ever in musical way: arrangements, compositions, climaxes, and that with guitars: I wanna be stooned :)

Such genius, such typical lack of recognition. It's only the industry-sponsored Madonnas and Flocks of fookin' Seagulls, and whatever their serial subsequent stand ins might be, that get any recognition.
How little do modern audiences realize that their musical heroes, then but far more so now, were only riding on the coattails of musicians with actual talent and vision!
3-chord rock bands conquering the world while bands like Man, Gentle Giant, Greenslade and Zappa's Mothers (among many, many others) were quietly making the greatest, most unsung and virtuoso pop music ever. Disgustingly typical.

John Weathers was probably the fifth best drummer on Gentle Giant. He commented about those fellows. When auditioning, one of the Shulman Brothers got an idea, strummed it on the guitar, and they all jumped up and started playing except John. John said he had to take the material home with him to practice. The rest of those guys could play on the spot.
+Uncle Emanuel: What a bullshit. He just wanted to do the best on the songs. And he did like no one before and after.
They quote John Weathers in a little booklet of info included within a CD set admitting that he wasn't near as proficient as a musician as the other band members of the group According to him, he had do take the new material that they had created on the spot and practice it at home.
I love John Weathers. He is the most Mr. Gentle Giant of them all.

Really? That's kind of surprising to me,because John always seemed innately connected to the rhythm of the song. It all sounds so effortless, especially on songs like "In a glass house" where he drives the band through a million changes in speed and meter.
I guess, even though he needed to practice the material, he played it expertly.
