Blake 7 producers " We have literally NO budget, we need brilliant actors to deflect from that".... Casting agent... "I know just the man... Paul Darrow".
I have never understood why it should be necessary to become irrational in order to prove that you care ... or indeed why it should be necessary to prove it at all! ~ very important words!
a snarky yet logical Spock.... maybe a greedier Spock but unfortunately (for him) held back by a pesky sense of loyalty .... bloody stupid loyalty gets in the way all the time ... but alas, the loyalty made for a far more interesting ending ... kind of like Han Solo returning at the last moment ... the image of Avon standing above Blake to face all of those Federation guards in defiance was amazing (one of my fav moments in science fiction tv ... but then lights out, cut to credits and shooting sounds - who knows what really happened :D.....oops that's a spoiler :D )
@@davidking6750 I bought the box set and those scenes were sticking. I sent the damn thing back. I'll buy it again another time. Such a disappointment to see the last episode and then when Tarrant runs off the whole thing stops working
@@RohenKapur I watched all of Blacke's 7 online (luckily back in maybe 2011) ... but like Babylon 5, I'd like to have a whole set of the series on DVD as long as they worked properly.
As much as Avon was the spice of Blakes 7 I feel the show did not work so well without Blake. They needed to bounce of each others ideals and pragmatisms.
Blake's 7, Dr Who, UFO, and Star Trek, reinforce the notion that poverty enhances artistic creativity. Compare that to today's lavishly budgeted blockbusters with their explosions, special effects, chase scenes, actresses who can not keep their clothes on, pathetic and often woke story lines, and woeful, predictable, dialogue, that nobody except adolescents want to watch.

So true, brilliant actors and those classic BBC quarries for outdoor scenes!
All the actors were classically trained Shakespearean actors and they read the lines like they're reading Shakespeare.
"There will come a time, when HE won't be making the decisions." eh? Avon may not be ALWAYS right, but he called THAT one perfectly!
As a child I screamed at the TV Blake get rid of this guy he's going to kill you I never knew how right I was going to be
Missed out one of the best exchanges:
Vila: I'm entitled to my opinion!
Avon: It is your assumption that we are also entitled to it that is annoying.
My favorite! I often remember Avon's line when I am listening to people pontificating foolishly but I never say it.
Perfect combination of actor and character. Always suggesting Avon is both worse and better than our existing opinion of him.
Avon was great!
He had an awesome sense of humour and a bit of mongrel in him!

My Hero when I was young. God bless...
Easily the best character on the show.
Amazing character and amazing actor
0:20 - 0:21 LOL+Irony!!! Avon's downfall:- He relied on other people!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
IMO I think that Avon is what you'd get if you had a Vulcan who's a high-functioning sociopath manifested as a human.
Someone needs to write a play about Blakes 7. It’ll be real hit.
The best character. (I'd completely forgotten the Phil Collins guy.)
I have a partner who is so like Avon - God, it's wonderful !
Let's have an Avon/Blackadder crossover!
"what went wrong?" ~ "I relied on other people!" LOL.... it's funny because it's true! :D
When he speaks of "becoming irrational" he sounds so like Mr Spock!
He was Blake's Version of Spock

This is how a new Doctor Who should be written and played, a no-nonsense tough older man with a cynical attitude but he gets the job done
1:09 Channeling Ace Frehley Avon becomes the galactic Green Cross Man warning little young spaceships to be careful crossing the universe.
I have always preferred the Anti-hero, a much more interesting character than a hero
So close to being the villain and didn’t servalan love that.
Good. Non spoilery. Good for showing to those who have yet to see it.

Yes, I agree...Tarrant was brought in to give us some semblance of the absent Blake/von dynamic, but it fell flat.
Don't relie on other people.
