Hear Hear I would live to see a reboot and to bring back the surviving cast for cameos. RIP Gareth, Jacqueline, David and Paul god bless you all for such a wonderful TV series.
@@garyhunt764 I think just doing a remake would be a bit pointless, BUT to start with the same basic story and charictors, maybe do the first 4 episodes more or less the same. Then do new stories from that point on.
RIP to both of these people. They were wonderful. Bless them both I had a great childhood being brought up with the wonderful Blakes 7 and of course my favourite Dr Who!
RIP Ms Jacqueline Pearce Sept 2018. Thank you for this lovely upload. Great to see the humour shine through. Great couple of people in real life here, no pretensions or inflated egos
My god really? i remember the first run it must've been 1980-81 which would've been the 3rd and 4th series. I was very young. But i hadn't seen Avon or anything to do with Blake's seven since this year finding it on you tube some 37 years later, and he is still as brilliant as i remember as a child.
My social circle in high school in 1985 was totally into this show. It was being run and rerun on a local TV station. Servalan was so iconic as a villain, and played so beautifully by Jacqueline Pearce. She made it intense instead of campy, and that takes serious talent.
In Blake,s 7 the arch-enemy and regular arch-villain Servalan was awesome in billions of ways and as a villain she is the ultimate female villain in any sci-fi series ever no other female villains in any other sci-fi series have come close to oversahdowing her .
I find Gareth's comments about other actors being prettier than him, and not being good-looking enough to be the hero quite sad. Paul Darrow was obviously meant to be the classically handsome & dashing one in B7, but despite Gareth's protests during this interview he was very attractive. Tall & strapping with a strong-featured, expressive face and a simply glorious voice that could melt butter, he had an earthy sex appeal that was a wonderful foil for Paul Darrow's elegance.
You can see Jacqueline wanting to speak but she rarely gets a chance to interject because Gareth dominates. I think it would have helped if she and Gareth had swapped places because annoyingly he seems to dominate. She should have been closer to the interviewer.
Funny when they say Gareth hadn't been in every series, and he says "I came back for the last series"... He was in every series. A main in series 1 and 2, and a guest in series 3's "Terminal" and series 4's "Blake".
Blake was cloned for one episode and we never saw his clone again. But as far as I knew, Blake's clone still existed afterwards. The episode was called Weapon where we first saw Brian Croucher replacing Stephen Greif as Travis.
- 3:15 - "There was... some American thing; I can't think what they call it now. There's an English actor playing the lead, now." "Star Trek!" "Yes, yes. But, there was nothing like Blake's 7."
This has gone on long enough! I demand that we get a rebooted Blake's 7 series! Firefly was a decent stab at the "rogues in space" formula that Blake's 7 invented ... but it's not been done properly in 40 years. Can you imagine something as brilliant as Game of Thrones or Westworld, called "Blake's 7"? High budget, grade A writing and acting - no commercials because it's on HBO or Starz (or a fully committed BBC - like with Dr Who) - Basically what it was always set out to be ... the opposite of glossy, hopeful Star Trek ... where the Federation is out to stamp down on any opposition, not be nice and broker peace between warring factions. :) But the show would live or die on its casting - who should play Blake's 7? I'll start us off - I probably won't put up much of a defence if anybody has some alternative suggestions, I know I'm being VERY Game of Thrones biased (but those guys will be out of work in a years' time!) - they're proven actors of the highest quality, but they're also just a starting point for the discussion: BLAKE - a freedom fighter framed as a pedophile by The Federation: Christopher Eccleston AVON - a cynical, intelligent, ruthless thorn in Blake's side: Benedict Cumberbatch TARRANT - a suave, ex-Federation pilot: Adrian Lester GAN - a gentle giant that accidentally killed someone and got a life sentence: Gwendoline Christie [yes - I changed the gender] CALLY - an empathic humanoid alien: Jodie Whittaker VILLA - not as cowardly and "comic reliefy" as in the original series, an expert in picking locks and any type of theft, mechanical or cyber - also serves as the ship's mechanic: Peter Dinklage DAYNA (yes - it really IS 7 crew members this time) - a born survivor on her home planet - an expert at combat and martial arts: Maisie Williams ZEN - the ship's computer: Anthony Howell (who played the android Samuels in the game Alien Isolation) ORAC - a supercomputer, capable of searching for any known fact; also VILLA's best friend: Alicia Vikander SERVELAN - Prime Minister of the evil Galactic Federation: Catriona Balfe I'm creaming my pants just imagining "nu" Blake's 7 with these actors - it would be beyond awesome. Pirate's in Space - still hasn't been done right ... the original show had the actors, but rubbish special FX and a few badly written episodes. It was all done on the cheap, and I loved it nevertheless! - which shows that there's something there. Now ... put some money into it ... Class A actors in all positions ... I'm convinced it could be just as unmissable as Game of Thrones or Westworld. [I would definitely subscribe to the channel that made this show] Everyone loves pirates - everyone loves underdogs who are freedom fighters - with even an ounce of conviction, it's a smash hit waiting to happen. Final thoughts - music - full orchestra, but the same epic themes and style used in the original show (such an awesome theme tune) tone - very earthy and "used car" - more like "Alien" than Star Trek or Firefly.
True, I think deep down G.T. regrets leaving when he goes to convetions and sees how much all the fans enjoy having him there and wishes he's stuck around even if Avon STILL got to be in charge! Colin Baker was pretty much FORCED to stop being Dr. Who so his fans still appreciate him and he's become one those actors who is considered PAINFULLY underrated and one of the best Doctors we never had!
I have always said when Stephen greif left B7, Travis really should have gone in the finale of season 1 Orac and in season 2 of of B7 Brian Croucher really should have been cast as a totally new character with a new name instead of taking over another mans role which really did not work at all.
I just said to my lass the other day about her resembling Almond. I didn't fancy either her or him at the time but BOTH seemed to have never aged in 30yrs
Servalan was a political appointment by the Federation President, she had two things in her favor as a military Supreme Commander, she had a face for TY and a ruthlessness worthy of Pol Pot. Covfefe will always be jealous of her.
This was an interesting interview of Gareth Thomas (It's a pity that he died last April) and Jacqueline Pearce but I have to I was irritated by Gareth's repeated interrupting and over talking of Jacqueline.
The interviewer gives me the impression she has never actually watched the show, and she is very dismissive and scornful of science fiction, like' you don't really take it seriously, do you?"
Was Gareth wearing his Sunday best? He came off a bit rude to Jackie and somewhat pompous, but perhaps it was due to nervousness. His comment about wanting to move on after Season 2 so as to avoid being typecast doesn't ring quite true, he left the show because he wanted more control and didn't get it. Nevertheless, it was nice to see them interviewed after all these years. Jackie was very charming and still retains that sultriness she brought to the role of Servelan.
I think it might have been interesting to see a whole group of Blake clones all with their own unique personalities so that Gareth Thomas would get to play not one but SERVERAL roles!
Servalan's death at the end of "Terminal" would have been too much of a plot-hole since she should have known better than to assume the Liberator was in perfect working condition despite it being obvious that there was something seriously wrong with it! So I'm afraid her escaping before it was too late doesn't really bother me that much, I'm more annoyed with how the Liberator was destroyed in the first place...
I agree, so he wasn't some square-jawed, barrel-chested tower of muscle. BIG DEAL! His performance as Rog Blake was still awesome because you could sympathize AND root for him both at the same time! He should be proud to have brought such a great character to life and stop listening to cynical critics who call "Blake's 7" a "guilty pleasure" just because the writers fumbled the ball once in awhile and the special effects weren't blowing peoples minds every time they were shown!
Del Grant was a great character and he REALLY should have become a reserve member of Blake's crew if nothing else, (Although after what happened to his sister I bet he would have had some CHOICE words for Kerr Avon!) I liked Del Tarrant but he seemed to be there just to appeal to the younger audience memebers and not much more! Some people actually enjoyed Avon being the main focus of the show instead of Blake so in a way, I suppose his leaving wasn't so bad for EVERYONE.
Jackie Pearce looks like a character from Rebecca. And it is funny to hear that Gareth was once "slim and fit" which was no way in shape during those day.
Jacqueline Pearce just remains one of the most beautiful and sexy women I have ever seen. However, the interviewer needed to bring her in more instead of allowing Gareth taking over.
I'm not saying the clone would have been a revolutionary, but if the cips were down he might still have been willing to protect the innocent if they were in danger!
I wish Gareth Thomas would shut up and let Jacqueline Pearce get a word in. You can tell by the rushed way of speaking that she is having a struggle keeping up - god I can't stand people who are full of themselves.
That was an almost perfect clone we saw in "Weapon" so it was probably just as intelligent as the FIRST Blake, it just had a bit less personality, other than that it seemed to be in perfect health so it might still be out there living it up with that slave-girl it befriended!
It's interesting that they really don't understand the fan phenomenon at all -- they seem to regard the fans as good-hearted but nonetheless nutters -- and that they saw conventions as another form of work. It perhaps isn't that they *want* to see their fans in a poor light, but that they don't have any other context in which to see them.
'He came off a bit rude to Jackie and somewhat pompous, but perhaps it was due to nervousness' I think he was just nervous. Have you seen the swap shop interview he did in 1979? He seems quite different in character. I suppose people change a lot in 12 years.
Jacqueline Pearce has given me a lifelong weakness for bad tempered exotic brunettes. I don't think Gareth Thomas understood that the interview was actually supposed to be with Jacqueline Pearce, and he was supposed to sit next to her quietly.
all this r.p. makes me sick. glad to hear jp has found something she loves in africa after all these 20-odd years of me thinking she was the bride of satan!
I remember watching this at the time. Now I see why I'd remember an interview like this. She essentially forced her interviewees to be as caustic and stupid as she was.
These interviews make me laugh for the time. The presenters we're the type of people that we're so fake and never watched this stuff. They we're probs the sort of people you got on the bbc that made it so terrible for the actors to work and want to leave and wanted to cancel the show and never understood the show. lol
"Well, there was Doctor Who and some American series with an English lead" "Star Trek?" That could be seen as being incredibly dismissive of Patrick Stewart, Jean Luc Pickard and Star Trek: The Next generation.
Series 1 and 2 - all English, all White, all Straight cast. Won't be allowed to do that now. 'Affirmative Action' is that racist and prejudiced against such things.
Two lovely people. RIP Jacqueline and Gareth.
Here it is, 2019 and I'm still watching this series over and over.

I didn't discover Blake 7 until two years ago. The special effects were lacking but the show was awesome. Jacqueline Pearce was brilliant as Servalan!

Loved the teleport landing the slight bend of the knees lol
You can tell that the interviewer has never seen a Blake's 7 episode since she did not recognize the gun. Love it.
Wonderful post! There's so little Blake's 7 interviews available at the present, when one encounters one, it's a real treat!
At 14 Monday nights at 7pm on the BBC were Blakes 7 nights and I loved this show. I also had a hell of a crush on Jacqueline Pearce.
In Blake,s 7 the arch-enemy and regular arch-villain Servalan was awesome in billions of ways and as a villain she is the ultimate female villain in any sci-fi series ever no other female villains in any other sci-fi series have come close to oversahdowing her .
Jaqueline Pearce is just such a lovely down to earth person.
Wow, cannot believe how different jaq pierce is compared to servelan. RIP.
Beautiful souls, miss them dearly
enjoyed that thanks. Blakes 7 was great.

Jacqueline Pearce looking very lovely here ... so clever, nice and fun. Hope she's ok now. Such a fun show .....
Unfortunately she has just died. She scared the f""k out of me when she played Servalan!

I'll start us off - I probably won't put up much of a defence if anybody has some alternative suggestions, I know I'm being VERY Game of Thrones biased (but those guys will be out of work in a years' time!) - they're proven actors of the highest quality, but they're also just a starting point for the discussion:
BLAKE - a freedom fighter framed as a pedophile by The Federation:
Christopher Eccleston
AVON - a cynical, intelligent, ruthless thorn in Blake's side:
Benedict Cumberbatch
TARRANT - a suave, ex-Federation pilot:
Adrian Lester
GAN - a gentle giant that accidentally killed someone and got a life sentence:
Gwendoline Christie [yes - I changed the gender]
CALLY - an empathic humanoid alien:
Jodie Whittaker
VILLA - not as cowardly and "comic reliefy" as in the original series, an expert in picking locks and any type of theft, mechanical or cyber - also serves as the ship's mechanic:
Peter Dinklage
DAYNA (yes - it really IS 7 crew members this time) - a born survivor on her home planet - an expert at combat and martial arts:
Maisie Williams
ZEN - the ship's computer:
Anthony Howell (who played the android Samuels in the game Alien Isolation)
ORAC - a supercomputer, capable of searching for any known fact; also VILLA's best friend:
Alicia Vikander
SERVELAN - Prime Minister of the evil Galactic Federation:
Catriona Balfe
