    I think the butterfly valve that you just eliminated, is there for an specific reason by porsche engineers... normally it will close slightly during slow revs in order to increase the air velocity inside the plenum! BMW has the same design in their plenums (i’m a BMW owner) put again everything back to stock and see how the engine reacts. 👍

    Those P03## codes are misfire codes. Also the flashing CEL means its misfiring. Probably not to good for the catalysts. Cool upgrade, hope it’s worth it!

    You didn't mention it but I thought you would need to do a throttle adaptation sequence and a ECU "handover". Disconnecting the battery has a similar outcome to the latter. Can't wait to see the end result!

  • @TheFlemburger

    I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s just confusing the ecu. My 986 boxster idles rough sometimes for no reason since I put a k&n panel filter in. But once driving at high revs and the 24v is at its peak it comes together insanely. But a bit of a dog at low revs. When I changed back to the original panel filter all went smooth but was a bit less pokey at high revs. I was thinking of a remap but was discouraged as I was told there is not a lot of people who will take care with your engine tolerances when re mapping and could end up doing more damage.
    I just live with the pros and cons of the k&n and tbh it’s worth the cons imo

The only time it really is shocking is when it’s edited in too loud. Maybe lowering the edit volume on the music will make the non teenage girls that watch your videos happier. 😜✌🏻. Fitting an IPD plenum for a standard size throttle body is fine as a bolt on mod, but changing to a bigger throttle body will need a remap.
    The DME May adapt to a point where you don’t get fault codes, but slow speed around town driving will suck! And you won’t be getting the full benefit of the larger throttle body without telling the DME it has it!

  • @londonvideographer
    @londonvideographer 5 років тому +3

    you need to remove those hoses that you were pulling to the side and have them actually over the plenum to have it pointing down, it is too high and air is not going in properly, it needs to be pointing down and you dont need to break that holder for the nut from engine cover, it should not be touching the plenum. If you want I can send you a picture of my engine bay.

    I would definitely unplug the battery 1st for a few minutes so the ecu resets. Plug back in and then go for a nice long drive. It will take about 1 week of driving or couple hundred miles for all the fuel maps to be regenerated with the new air flow and ipd plenum. A good maintenance practice at the same time would be to spray your MAF Sensor with CRC Maf sensor cleaner. It's an electrical component cleaner. I was happy to see you move the Air/oil vent tube out of the way. You may want to double check that it was not cracked in any way if the error codes keep coming back.. I noticed you are doing this in very cold weather. This makes all those plastic vent tubes very stiff and brittle. If the ECU error codes do not go away after 100 miles of driving you may have cracked a vent tube or vacuum leak some where ;^(
    I do like IPD products, but they are a p.i.t.a to install in the caymans/boxsters. Keep us posted!! great video!

    • @alsatch_
      @alsatch_  5 років тому

      qikqbn77 yeah I think I need to completely uninstall the whole thing and start again - making sure of no leaks, cracks etc. Pain in the arse indeed but hopefully worth it.

    • @qikqbn77
      @qikqbn77 5 років тому

      @@alsatch_ I hope it's ok. Porsche is very sensitive to vacuum leaks or changes in airflow. 100 miles driving should fix the idle issues and any fuel maps. Mods that change air flow are not always night and day difference right away. Once the ecu adjusts there will be one day you will be driving and say to yourself... "Hey, that feels much better and faster now through that area"... Any errors that linger after that may be due to a vacuum leak. . May be helpful to use a heat gun or blow dryer to warm up those plastic/rubber parts during install. Also make sure the Vent line that attached to bottom of plenum did not come unplugged at the other end. I know all about this, because the air/oil vent line under my plenum did crack and was a bitch to uninstall everything, replace vent line, then reinstall 2 or 3 times before all was back to normal. Best of luck and keep up the great work! Just some advice. Intake and exhaust mods can be learned and adjusted by ecu, but sometimes with the additional air the ecu will compensate by adding more fuel which will create a "RICH" fuel mixture. This is where an ecu tune mod will be very helpful. I have not done and ecu mod yet, but if you ever do a dyno test, make sure to get an AIR/FUEL Ratio test done as well. Cheers!

Even though it revs to 7.2 compared to 8.2 I'm sceptical of Porsche's true intentions in this case, maybe they couldn't let it overshadow the 911? With big bore throttle body, sport exhaust, headers and de-snorkled air intake these apparently get tuned to ~350bhp.

    Why would you do all this for a measley 20 extra horses? you do know there is a turbo kit available that can add a gauranteed 100 to 200 bhp right?

      Modifying cars outside USA is very complicated. From outright illegal in some EU countries, to legal but drastically changing your insurance policy in others.

    Based on my experience with my 987.2 - ua-cam.com/video/qJ7MwPHKh-U/v-deo.html - I suspect you're going to need a new MAF. In mine, you cannot clean it. I called lots of people and places and, in the end, IPD suggested that my 40k mile car's MAF had died. They suggested this was not related, but I've no doubt in my mind it was - and your video reinforces that. Glad you have the flexible pipe for yours - ripping out the metal one for mine again gave me no pleasure!

    Is the tachometer wiggle normal on these cars? Lots of places saying minor wiggle is normal? Noticed it on first test drive... Anybody noticed this from new or able to eliminate the wiggle in entirety from their Boxster/ Cayman???

      @@eddherring4972 Thanks Edd, I experienced 2 weeks of no wiggle so I'm inclined to think its not normal. No way to tell what is causing or contributing to problem. Will wash car and lean over into engine bay to start with TB and MAF clean and go from there.

    You should check out this myth buster video: ua-cam.com/video/mc9c07qCuKY/v-deo.html: basically they installed an ipd plenum and dyno their 911 afterward. They found zero gain in horsepower!
