Just when I thought I heard Her Best Cover....... OMFG THIS WAS EPIC!! I can't imagine being in that audience at that moment, I would have just dieeeeeeed. Even Trent would have said "whoa!" ❤
What a thrill!!! Just piano, just Tori. Only Tori managed to turn a NIN song into another song and not the usual cover. I've heard many, too many and buried them in the ground. Thank you Tori for the emotions you give me, you are a living legend.
They are both horrid, but wild typing wildebeest Trent is a much more versatile musician then one-dimensional Tori. She's a talented pianist but this is a horrific cover.
I don't love Trent. He is a deranged, e-mail sending jackass who makes horrible music. Tori is definitely a better pianist/vocalist but certainly not a better all around musician. He is a much more diverse musician with the amount of instruments he is able to play (never seen Tori play four different instruments onstage - she can only play piano based ones) and also production skills. Her music is tiresome because she isn't a great composer like Ravel. This song doesn't work with piano AT ALL. Also, she often bangs away at her piano and wails like a banshee. She is a terrible lyricist (like Trent), and also a pretty bad person (like Trent.) I don't expect any objectivity from the Tori Brigade.
Considering there is piano on the original track, seems a pretty poor point. As far as tori being a pretty bad person... where the hell are you gathering that info from?
There is more than a piano on the recorded track, though. Trent did a "piano only" version and it was zzzzz tedious... but at least not obnoxious like this is. Trent's songs only "work" (to the extent that they work at all) when he utilizes the other instruments he plays. Since Tori can ONLY PLAY ONE INSTRUMENT, her piano-based cover sucks. As for Tori being a bad person, check out her obnoxious live performances cursing out and flipping off members of her audience who annoy her, exploiting children in her "Raspberry Swirl" music video, and the whole vile, vulgar, and filthy feminist album "Boys for Pele" album, which is violent, hateful, socially irresponsible and evil.
If I were her multi-talented husband Mark Hawley, I wouldn't appreciate that one little bit. She'd better not be pining over a keyboard throwing, deranged, e-mail sending madman.
Tasha Schneider you've made it your personal mission to judge these performers based on how "good" you have decided they are as people. Who are you to make the comment they are bad people? And there is a lot of history with Tori and Trent. Why are you wasting time trying to convince those who enjoy this that they're wrong? Jesus Christ, live and let live.
Tasha Schneider a bit harsh, was simply going on the history between them both. I like it when people throw mud at people for giving an opinion, and then follow it with an opinion of their own...
İf this spoiled diva is singing this song about Mr. Throw-your-stuff-in-the-trash-change-the-locks-and-post-your-e-mail-address, then her husband is a seriously unlucky man. Their "history" together needs to remain a history. Gross. When scores of silly people are idolizing these talented-but-demented musicians as god/godess, then one has every right to point out what bad people they actually are.
For someone who thinks Tori is horrible for nodding at their history, you sure seem to have a lot of hate for both of them that you have no issue spewing. The hell is wrong with you? Why are you so angry?
I have seen her 6 times in concert and when she gets hyped during a song it almost looks like she is one or making love to her piano. It is so amazing to see some a singer that involved.
Yes! It's such a sight to behold! In concert it is a strong energy & personally I think, one of the best parts about a Tori show! She lays it out there. Her talent is incredible! Unmatched! Love this lady! 🤗💜🎶🎹
TFW some of your alltime fav artists do a little homage to each other Interesting that she would experiment with this song in particular rather than going with, say, an angry political song. I've had the impression that she does have a bit of a giving, submissive side in her, but that she's always been uncomfortable with or guarded about expressing it because of the horrible degrading experiences she had and the conservative upbringing on her fathers side of the family, like there's a fear not only of being taken advantage of, but of somehow become complicit in it. And then there's this song that comes wholly from this pitiful, begging position "I've been rejected and I absolutely cannot deal", wholly, unapologetically raw and completely unguarded. And still she goes and does it, and you can tell there's still some uncertainty in the first verse where she's not fullyx sure how much of her own colors to insert, but by the time she did the chorus she was definitely on the right frequency and yet also comfortably owning it and creating a stunning performance. I guess such is the transformative power of art, and why she experiments with becoming a lot of different characters.
Tori Amos is incredible; her unparalleled talent sets a high standard for all musicians, aspiring or established. If you'd like to check out another cover of Something I Can Never Have, head to the Honor in Treason page. HinT
"Unparalleled" to whom?! She's a an AWFUL harpsichordist. She can only play keyboards, and nothing else. Her singing is like nails down a chalk board, her lyrics are laughable. She's one of the worst pop jokes to ever come out of the '90's! Heaven help us all if THAT is unparalleled talent.
I just wanna have something I can never have - "and never have anymore.". Back then, I couldn't do the things that I can do now -"But without you I can do now. Without you I can do. Without you!". Interesting Additions. Were not there rumours about a love triangle between Trent, Tori and Courtney Love in 1994?
at least she didn't disgrace it like Flyleaf did. Still doesn't echo with the pain embedded throughout the original, but it is chilling in its own right.
Gibson S I like Flyleaf and I like their version. I do think it was utter hypocrisy for a loudly self-proclaimed 'Christian rock band' to cover a song by a band (Yeah, I know it was all Trent, but he needs a band to tour with) who's levels of debauchery and depravity matched (and occasionally exceeded) Marylin Manson's though.
"just a fading fucking reminder of who I used to be" is one of the most poignant verses in the song. If you identify with the song on a visceral level you understand that. If you are going to cover it because it means something to you, don't cut out a "curse word" for Christian reasons. 1/3 of their catalog is anti religion anyways, go all in or don't do it at all. On principal, flyleaf version sucks for this reason.
Damn, this is such a good one and it's so hard to make a cover by NIN but you rocked it! I'm subscribing. P.S: I do covers too, feel free to check out if you want 😊😊
I hate when people cackle, cheer, woo, and applaud during songs like this. It’s so annoying. Like who are you trying to impress? Just be quiet, reflect, and take in the moment.
woof... teenage angst doesn't age well, and neither does melodramatic vocalizations. Loved her music in my twenties, disappointed she's now just doing nostalgia jobs. Bummer.
@@klistarf She's truly awful. Mediocre keyboarding, weird vocals. silly lyrics. One of the all-time worst "musicians". Never challenged herself like her loser ex-boyfriend who kicks her ass and plays seven instruments. They both SUCK and need to stop butchering other people's songs, and get out of our lives, cheating bastards!
@@tashaschneider1419 Jesus dude, get a life. This cover isn’t really my bag, but I don’t write a rant about it so heavy it develops it’s own atmosphere.
Just read the comments. If you like this, you have no knowledge of music. No taste and no soul and you have never felt the pain to know how this song should feel and sound
Beautiful piano, butchered theme, flyleaf is 100x better. Not even feeling like the same song. Too diva. It is not supposed to be about showing of your voice but showing emotion. Sturm's voice is amazing and unimitable, people just want to hear people from the voice sing every song. It's sad. Tori's voice and piano playing is impressive though
Jessica Hillman so- it’s in the style of HER music. This is her interpretation of the song and how she sings it is just her own unique style. That’s why it’s called a cover. It is not supposed to be the same. it’s going to be different depending on the artist performing it. If you’re familiar with her work then you’ll notice that this version of the song fits with her character and style of music she plays. It’s not about showing off her vocal ability. It’s simply just Tori.
I have seen Trent cry singing this. It’s not a revenge song or a chill song to jus throw on from a pop artist. Sorry to me it’s how nin does it they barely show their faces and are banging on the keys because it’s such an emotional song. When I first heard this it felt like I learned a lot about myself and others sometimes feel that way too.
@@jimdavis6519 You you realise NIN put one 'shows' right? they don't just come out and play songs like she's doing here.. they out on a full piece of theater.
First thumb down I've ever given. If you don't feel it, don't cover it. From the heart. This fuckin sucked. At least trent for royalties from this. Fuckin terrible
Who, like me, is still watching this in 2024? 🙋♂️
Legend...
There is no other female artist like her, she stands brilliantly, uniquely alone.
this confirms every theory about them dating

Tori has been my favorite artist for about 30 years, since I was a teenager. She makes cover songs sound original. This is a really good cover.
Only learning about Tori now in my 30s , can't even explain the heavyness of magic behind her talent .
Same here.
She will always be gorgeous and super talented
She will always be kicking herself for letting this man go from her life. #trentreznor
"Caught a lite sneeze... dreamed a little dream.. made my own Pretty Hate Machine."
Always amazing when she does NIN covers.
Fuck! Now, THAT is powerful! My fave NIN song performed by Tori, who has been an absolute Goddess to me for well over 25 years. Lovin' it... \m/ (:o)
Same!! My queen 🙌
Tori is just always amazing. She's so god damn talented. The power behind her music is surreal.
Powerful, gut-wrenching version of this NIN song
All the things she knows about the underbelly of the 90s music just imagine
Just Utterly Fantastic!!!!! What a Voice!!!!!!
I played both Pretty Hate Machine and Little Earthquakes hundreds of Times...
She should be the lead singer of NIN
This is FANTASTIC
amazing as usual. I was in love with Nine Inch Nails then I found Tori and there ain't no never going back!!!!! lol
They are both horrid, but wild typing wildebeest Trent is a much more versatile musician then one-dimensional Tori. She's a talented pianist but this is a horrific cover.
bullshit. i love trent but he doesn't have half the musicianship in him that tori has. this song, and many of his, are two chord songs.
I don't love Trent. He is a deranged, e-mail sending jackass who makes horrible music. Tori is definitely a better pianist/vocalist but certainly not a better all around musician.
