My dad was a pilot. Inspired by Lindbergh as a kid, he earned his pilot's license while he was in high school. He earned his wings in 1942, then flew out of England and Italy, and continued to fly planes past his 80th birthday. He was an aerospace engineer for Boeing in the 1960s and 1970s. This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. The wings on that plane are gorgeous. I wish Dad could have seen this. Cheers to the Boeing team and test pilots Mike Bryan and Randy Neville. There's no way it could be as easy as you guys make it look.
And the whole time all the pilots are hearing is "BANK ANGLE BANK ANGLE.... WHOOP WHOOP PULL UP, TOO LOW GEAR, TOO LOW FLAPS, SINK RATE SINK RATE, WHOOP WHOOP PULL UP!"
+Evan Simon That would be amazing just the nice music and the plane flying around to the cockpit and BEEP BEEP!!! PULL UP!!! and it ruins the moment xD
I love the way she levels out and drops a little altitude after the steep climb out around 38 sec to 43 sec. At one minute... the way her wings bow up and back, reminds me of the Spirit of Ecstasy. very sleek. and at 1:14 - 1:20 , the wings bobble -- banking left , right then level. A lovely flying machine. Well done Boeing.
I am totally blown away. THIS plane is going to change it all. Exquisite grace, and agility. The music was perfect too. My dad, who worked for Boeing for over 40 years, would be so incredibly proud. What a milestone for this company
As a pilot who loves aviation, I have to say this is pretty freakin' awesome to watch. I love how the pilot does a touch and go like it's a training flight in 4-seater! Keep flyin'!
One thing we do well in America is building airplanes. Boeing is one of the best. Years ago (1980's and 1990's) my job took me to Boeing, Grumman, McDonald-Douglas, General Dynamics, Martin-Marietta and other aerospace companies. I was getting my private pilot license when back at home in Addison, Tx on the weekends. I loved my job because I was able to see such cool aviation stuff. I was able to see F-15s being built in St. Louis, F-16s being built in Ft. Worth, MD-11s in Long Beach, Boeing 747s in Everett, an SR-71 landing at Andrews and Air Force One. Missile construction at Martin-Marietta near Kissimmee, Florida. Heck I was able to see a shuttle launch and got a tour of the VAB at NASA and so many other things. Cherished memories. I don't fly my 172 anymore but I am proud of American accomplishments. Planes are in our DNA. Orville and Wilbur would agree (been to Kitty Hawk many times too). Nothing better than to see an F-15E flyover at an airshow with ground pounding power while in after-burner. What I would give to be one of those pilots.
I came to post the same thing. I'm so happy someone beat to it. I'm even happier it has produced 38+ up-facing thumbs in 21 hours. Long live Star Fox 64!
Sometimes I wonder if Boeing makes art that flies or planes that are art. This plane is the perfect blend of art function grace power and capability. Watching it take off almost strait up like that was amazing. I imagine it was running 10% of its total fuel load and no passengers or cargo so won't do that in normal revenue flight but amazing just the same.
The pilot on the vertical takeoff; "You mean this isn't a F-18?" LOL!! As much as I believe Boeing goofed on the assembly phase, this bird has some gorgeous lines on it. One of the most sexiest planes out there.
Parts of the video were sped up in editing. Watch the red blinking light on the under belly... it always blinks at a constant rate (0:25 to 0:30), but in one shot (0:38 to 0:48) it blinks twice as fast as the others and the video is noticeably choppy... in another it's sped up by about +1/3 (2:12 to 2:25). Here is a unedited view of the normal blink speed. Boeing's 787-9 Dreamliner dazzles over Farnborough Airshow 2014
I just flew on the 787-8 two weeks ago. This plane is impressive and handles turbulence so well. If you get the chance to fly on the Dreamliner, DO IT!!! I'm going to fly this fabulous plane as much as I can! This video made me feel even more excited about the 787
I never thought I'd see a prettier commercial airliner than the 777, but my god the 787-9 is a joy to watch. She looks like a fighter in this video - simply lovely.
Simply beautiful airplane! I spent the last four years building the 787 as an engineer and I know I love my planes more than anything else in this world. We at Boeing make these things with great passion and dedication.
i can't believe the maneuvers can perform... i was in the navy stationed on an air craft carrier & always have seen touch & go's with our jet fighter but NEVER have seen a commercial airliner do it. very impressed
HAHFAHKFHAKFHKAHFAHHAHAHH!!!! YOU ARE SO FUCKING FUNNY BECAUSE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE ACTUALLY PAYING FOR THIS TEST AND PEOPLE IN LINE TO BUY THIS PLANE TOTALLY DIDN'T THINK OF THAT!!!! I ACTUALLY HEARD THE CEO OF BOEING IS COMING TO YOUR HOUSE RIGHT NOW TO GIVE YOU THE KEYS TO THE ENTIRE CORPORATION BECAUSE YOU ARE SO SMART!!!!! GOOD JOB AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA seriously, you're fucking stupid.
Just read a comment below that he thought this plane was modified with a different engine and airframe. Picked up the phone and called my son. He said there were no modifications to increase performance. He was a test flight engineer and helped develop the plane from the ground up.
I never thought I'd say this about a modern airliner (other than concorde) but hot damn that's a beautiful aircraft. I love the upward bend on the narrow composite wings - makes her look like a gliding albatross.
After struggling with their A350 as an answer to the Boeing 787, yesterday at the Farnborough International Air Show Airbus unveiled its plan instead to redesign their A330 Neo. But the Boeing 787-9 really got everyone's attention when it took to the sky. Earlier this week in Moses Lake, the 787-9 put on a spectacular show in preparation for Farnborough. See for yourself, it is pretty awesome!
That is an engineering marvel right there. That thing handles like a fighter, only massive. I've seen commercial jets fly formations and such, but never such tight turns and sharp changes in pitch. Never such agility. Guess this is what happens when nearly the entire thing is composites. Truly awesome.
hi, i was thinking somedays some days ago, on the touch in landig, the landing gears are stopped, when the plane touch the runway he create a very hard impact. If the tires were in the same velocity of the plane the consume of rubber and the impact are so diminished. Wold not beneficious use the force of the air in the aproximate to rotate the gears to adequate the velocity of the plane with the gears? (sorry for my poor english)
to pre-rotate the tires would require additional needless equipment which adds weight and complexity. More weight= less fuel/passengers/range which increases cost per seat per mile. Tires on the other hand are relatively cheap.
Yes, with sure this equipment will increase the weight of the airplane, but, i believe the economy with the new tire will compense the more consume of fuel..
Amazing!! Although I probably would not want to be a passenger on a real world flight experiencing the effects of those mid air maneuvers!! At least not without the comforting solace of a parachute.
Wow! Would love to see a "Making of" or behind the scenes of this. That landing shot with the helicopter/drone lifting off before the plane comes.. amazing.
Folks saying this is CGI: look at the source -- it's a Boeing verified account. The chances of them going through the effort, and potential backlash, of passing off CG as real is about as close to zero as you can reasonably get.

Incredible. Imagine being one of the many designers of this incredible machine and watching that successful display. Nice job, pilots! Great machine you flew there. Fearless.
That's what the test pilot I've talked with said about flying an empty jetliner. They're such a joy to fly because they're so responsive when not loaded up with cargo/passenger and fuel.
Read Tex Johnson's book on the original 707 jetliner development. That's basically what he said they handle like when bare-bones empty. Johnson was made famous for doing a barrel-roll in the 707 over Lake Washington during the 707 initial public demonstration, without even notifying anyone in Boeing that he was going to do it.
Amazing and very beautiful demonstration. Striking cool, WOW look at the maneuverability of the airplane, talk about flight testing, they must have been pulling like 7 to 8 G's pulling those kind of turns and climbs. I love the flexibility and sexy smooth flush design of the Dreamliner. So inspirational, very nice indeed. Can wait to fly on one...one day God willing.
Классный самолет) Очень маневренный! У меня ощущение, что он такой легкий и простой в управлений, и кажется, что он не летит, а просто парит в воздухе на крыльях как птица! Хочу себе такой же)
Anyone feels the same, that it looks CGI? I mean its obviously real, but those moves are insane. I also think, that it was took with "more than 30FPS" cameras, which adds to this "CGI" look. Can we expect same display on Air Show? I would love to see that.
To me it looks CGI... the first shots of the plane inland.. and those cockpit windows doesn't convince me. If this was recorded by 60+ fps cameras i'll shut up..otherwise....cgi lol
Parts of the video are sped up in editing. watch the red blinking light on the under belly, in on shot it blinks twice as fast as the others and in another it's sped up by about +1/3
It's not a computer simulation. It's a really good camera work, and it's the real thing. They did practice run before the Airshow in France this week...well, today, actually.
The plane only needs one engine and it is empty. Most people are only used to seeing what they see at an airport. Some of that is side and forward slipping, which is used to loose altitude without gaining airspeed.
Came for the plane. Stayed for the music Disappointed in lack of barrel roll/inverted flight. Pretty sick touch and go (almost vertical) at 1:47. Beastly. And that climb at the beginning.. there would be almost three hundred barf bags being filled after that one lolol..
It's amazing to see the capabilities of this aircraft in motion. This video blew me away. It's just awesome a plane of this size can move like that in the air.
+Bruno Soares very bad decision from Airbus. I tried it and the a340-600 and this could've been a real challenge. What can you do with 8 seats Abreast.
That initial climb was amazing. I was kind of hoping it would do a 360 degree barrel roll. I figured it was not going to do a loop the loop though. What an amazing piece of technology.

+Evan Simon That would be amazing just the nice music and the plane flying around to the cockpit and BEEP BEEP!!! PULL UP!!! and it ruins the moment xD
What about Stall?
Wow - It climbs like a rocket!
Very pretty indeed. Of course, it's nearly empty...it *should* climb well.
Now only if we could of had that flight "flightchopped!"
navymmw haha - get me on board a flight like that and I'll happily "Flight Chop" it!
It's a simulation
Not according to the credits.

787-9 dancing in the sky, truly a state of art.
Flew from Australia to New Zealand on one of these. I have to say one of the best flights I have experienced
DO A BARREL ROLL
I wouldn't be surprised if it could. That is one fantastic plane.
I came here for that! I was disappointed in a way...
Tex Johnson would have been proud.

A very nice airplane in the sky!The wings are superb. And when standing, still gives the impression that floats

and this is why you have your seatbelt on when the sign is illuminated.... great flying.
Jeez that looks like fun (for the pilot … terrifying if you were a passenger). Ping Johti Kidd.
Paul Kidd I would gladly pay extra for a flight like that in a freaking commercial jet liner. lol
And why does it not surprise me to find you here in this thread, Mr Wolf?
The pilot on the vertical takeoff; "You mean this isn't a F-18?" LOL!!

Ij..
Agreed.

shakenama The pilot, Mike, is a former F-18 pilot and you can tell by the way he handles the plane that he's one heck of a good pilot. :)

I love that upward sweep of the wings. So graceful. What a great-looking plane!

It still amazes me how something so big and heavy can fly so majestically and smooth.

Too heavy. Would prob need 4 engines for that.
If they can then I consent!
And luggage
A pilot with balls of steel!! Very talented performance, give this guy a raise!
Wow! There is no equal. Nothing can beat it.
That's the most magnificent performance of an aircraft I have ever seen! Boeing, you are the best!!
Beautiful plane and superb performance! Saw it in production at Everett, now i want to fly on it.
Those flying stunts end up looking really graceful. It just floats.
Really beautiful aircraft too. I love the curved wings.
Just read a comment below that he thought this plane was modified with a different engine and airframe. Picked up the phone and called my son. He said there were no modifications to increase performance. He was a test flight engineer and helped develop the plane from the ground up.
i love the 787. serious. but in this vid it had less fuel than normal, right?

so graceful and that touch and go was a beauty... no wonder Boeing is so proud of their product! pure excellence!

Yes, with sure this equipment will increase the weight of the airplane, but, i believe the economy with the new tire will compense the more consume of fuel..
Marcos Paulo Spinning the wheels before landing causes gyroscopic problems that impact maneuverability in flight.
Its not just like any old ruber this rubers is mixed with steel
How do you get those kinds of shots? You'd need a camera in another aircraft.
Amazing!! Although I probably would not want to be a passenger on a real world flight experiencing the effects of those mid air maneuvers!! At least not without the comforting solace of a parachute.
You see the flex on the wings when the craft made those banks. That take off had to be better than 50 degrees. Sick.
Dave Handler According to a Boeing spokesman, it was less than 30 degrees.
Could have fooled me. That was pretty steep. Mind you it wasn't loaded with people, junk and cargo and probably a minimum of fuel.
John Grandle thanks! I knew that was better than 50 degrees! Still a sick climb!
Sick climb without a doubt, but I would still hate to be in that ✈ during a climb like that.
For an object made from tons of metal. Then formed and sculptured into a plane that is so graceful in the air. It can only be art
Did they just slip a 787?
The 788 looked incredible viewed from the ground at Salon du Bourget last year - but seeing this vid of the 789 from the sky, WOW!
That was amazing
Wow! Would love to see a "Making of" or behind the scenes of this. That landing shot with the helicopter/drone lifting off before the plane comes.. amazing.
+ganjabobby you can, it is on youtube
who needs CGI fake shots when the real deal is so much better
That last landing, with barely any smoke, the sign of an extraordinary pilot...
Folks saying this is CGI: look at the source -- it's a Boeing verified account. The chances of them going through the effort, and potential backlash, of passing off CG as real is about as close to zero as you can reasonably get.
Beautiful !!!
I think those folk are forgetting that this plane has no passengers and cargo :)

This is one amazing jet. It's handling seems out of the norm for most other jets. Is this jet being built for any one nation or what?
Wait a minute? is this video real? i don't think so! I mean for people who are not blind they should see that at 2:47 the plane is obviously fake?

Thanks, even though i meant during this flight in the video:) Cool seats for the pilots tho
Cockpit looks very modern and small like a 2 seat bomber or something. not at all as a passenger jet.
What an amazing plane! The near vertical take off , the inflight agility .... Just amazing!!
is it me or did I just see this dreamliner takeoff almost vertically at 30 seconds in?
I would have loved to have seen it do a barrel roll. The high angle climb on take off was very impressive!
Wow, beautiful. First I thought this was CGI.
I swear to god this is the best thing I have ever seen ... period.
See that! That's how you sell airplanes!
+Bob Ross true that!
+Jude Abijah - if someone who is actually a customer (i.e. has enough cash to pay for even one of the things) then I think they're going to be able to tell the difference between video and video games.
Stunning. When in Melbourne Australia once I saw a 747 come down so low over a park and then rise up again. pilot must've been high or something.
After this, Boeing and Airbus got banned for from flying flamboyantly at Farnborough. That's how badass these aircraft are.
+AshtonColeman All manufacturers are under the same restriction.
Incredible. Imagine being one of the many designers of this incredible machine and watching that successful display. Nice job, pilots! Great machine you flew there. Fearless.

Whats the song please? I really like it :)
Possibly one of the MOST INCREDIBLE things I've ever seen Boeing do.
damn who was the pilot?
Test pilots Mike Bryan and Randy Neville.
Mike Bryan and Randy Neville...it says so at the end of the video
Mike Bryan and Randy Neville.
The most elegant thing the sky has ever seen. I'm stunned.
Nice views of Moses Lake International Airport.
and Genie :D
the dreamliner....most graceful...wicked lines in flight
Amazing aircraft!!!
One of the coolest videos I've ever seen! Can't wait till the -9 enters service!
it looked like you went 90 degree angles both turning and lift up
What an art work!!
I fly the 767 and would be a great joy being upgraded to 787!
I WANT A COCKPIT VIEW OF THIS FLIGHT!! PLEASE :'(
I was at the Everett plant on the day the first 787-9 was delivered to a commercial customer. Was fun to see.
Amazing and very beautiful demonstration. Striking cool, WOW look at the maneuverability of the airplane, talk about flight testing, they must have been pulling like 7 to 8 G's pulling those kind of turns and climbs. I love this video, the music and maneuvers are amazing together. Does anyone know the name of the song?
Some of the most spectacular air to air footage I've ever seen. Congrats Boeing, the -9 looks great.
But can it do a barrel roll?
i dont think any other aircraft like a jet airliner could do a steep takeoff like this, so why it wouldnt be able to do a barrelroll?
truw
It's amazing to see the capabilities of this aircraft in motion. This video blew me away. It's just awesome a plane of this size can move like that in the air.
I know you Airbus Fans will be pissed off...BUT ANYWAYS! AIRBUS CANT DO WHAT BOEING DOES LOL!!!!
