Ohhh YURRRR!!
Next video: All drums made of Lego 😂
It's made from the plastic bags or straps found in "some" lego sets
A lot! I really like it
Wow, you never cease to amaze me with your drumming skill! I would almost like to see you do some of this on the stream. Anyway, very cool my Friend! See you Friday!
Could you rec sample pack of this Lego snare?
Full Lego kit when
No replies?! Lemme fix that
I was thinking the same thing,it'd take the need for wood working skills and tools away
We want the FULL lego kit!
There's a video of a functional lego drum kit on UA-cam
I wanna see Lego cymbals and hi - hat
OHHHHH YURRRRRRR super glad you enjoyed giving it a spin!!! It was definitely a blast making this snare, and even more so having you check it out. ❤
For the bahees in the audience, some additional notes:
-It was a pretty easy build all things considered, the biggest issue I ran into was trying to space the hardware perfectly enough for everything to stay relatively where it needed to be.
-I am doing all of the following math in metric, because yes.
-A 1x1 Lego brick measures 0.78cm in length/width and 0.96cm in height. The slope and round-stud bearing edges combined are one Lego brick tall.
-To figure out how many layers of Lego bricks are needed for your desired depth, simply divide the depth in cm by 0.96. For a 6" deep snare, this equated to 16 layers of Lego pieces; however, keep in mind that the bearing edges count as one layer, so in that case only 15 layers of 3x1 bricks will be necessary for a 6" depth.
-To figure out how many Lego bricks are needed per individual layer for your desired diameter, first figure out the circumference in cm (Google has a handy built-in calculator) and then divide by 0.78 for the length of one Lego brick (for a 14" snare, I rounded this number down to 136); divide this by four (the length of a 1x3 and 1x1 brick) and you get 34 sets of bricks per layer. This is probably the most tedious math part to solve, and I know from building a 13" Lego snare that I had to add another 1x2 brick in order to get the shell the perfect size, so if you're just starting out I recommend building a 14" shell as it is much less of a pain in the ass.
-I will not be building Lego snares to custom-order. This started out as a passion project, and I am personally against turning my hobbies into side hustles; that being said, I do wholly encourage you to build one of your own if this video lit a creative spark!
(Plugging my own shit at the end here: I have more Lego drums planned down the pipeline, so if you want to check out my personal stuff I'm over at Insta @switoczm or my band Alpha Boötis @alphabootisband -- we have a live video on UA-cam with me playing the Lego snare!)
It sounds terrific!
DO A DIY 😅 cause holy shit I need one
Love it amigo
Yo Matt! I remember you from the days of That Awesome Group With Musicians.
Hope you're well pal, take care and all the best!
@@elderkirkus YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO dude!!!! Happy to hear from you, likewise and all the best to you too!!
People literally be going into a tropical rainforest for special wood and here we have a snare made of Legos that sounds amazing I love it.
It’s a decent snare sound but def not amazing. People ain’t gonna be throwing out their snares to get this sound.
@PerfectSense77 the point is you can make the drum sound even better with mics, triggers, ect... and the drum itself is extremely affordable. Why spend more than you have to on a multiple ply wood shell when you can have a snare you built yourself
John from DW has entered the chat.
Lol I wouldn't say Lego is affordable 😂 as a father of 2, Lego can get extremely pricey@@montanamatthews7173
A lot of the exotic materials stuff is more about the owner feeling special because they can spend a ton of money on something scarce that they know few others can ever have.
I demand a lego cowbell right now
goddamnit now I'm tempted to do that too LOL
@@TallMatt lol plz do🙏
Yeah, that’s impractical.
Italian cow bells are better
*inserts plasticky Legos sound*
A race to build an full Lego kit has begun.
Im already on the Lego cymbals...
Already done. Years ago by Brian Melick. Featured in modern drummer as well I believe.
No illegal elements and he engineered the shell to have holes for the lugs. The Lego lover in me loves that snare!
умоляю подсказать - а возможно ли что с барабаном TAMA - что то случится от нахождения зимой в канаде в сарае? Или ничего страшного?
As an official LEGO designer I really appreciate the way this was created and as a nice bonus it really sounds great.
Kind of makes a mockery of the drum business when a drum made out of a plastic toy sounds just as good as drums made from the over engineered exotic woods.
John Good is gonna get diarrhea if he finds this video.
It's like what Dankpods proved with his $150 Jin Bao set, as long as its roundish and can fit a drum head, it'll get you 95% of the way there; most of what you pay for on the higher end is ease of use and looks.
@@timsmith618 yes, good heads and tuning get you a long way.
@@timsmith618 Tell me, my friend, what are you doing with the time you saved by shortening "it will" to "it'll"? How many times did you travel around the world?

5:14 ...And Lego for All
I didn't think I would ever see one of our pro sets with a Lego snare.
This thing actually sounds fucking phenomenal, the highest tuning absolutely rips!
Why does it sound so f’ing good!?
Look who’s playing it. ‘Nuff said.
@yfrozen Uhhhhh, what? The drummer has little impact on the tone of their drum beyond their choice of sticks, force of impact, and the tuning. The main contributing factors to a snare's tone are the drum's design and composition itself, the heads and other hardware, and MOST IMPORTANTLY: the choice in sound engineering for the recording (the microphone and its placement, post-processing like compression, EQ, saturation, the room etc...). The recording process has FAR more of an impact on the tonal qualities of a snare drum recording than the drummer! This is nothing against 66Samus, he's an awesome drummer, but it's beyond disingenuous to attribute that drum's tone to the drummer. Guarantee that snare would have the same bitchin' crack if anyone struck it with similar force and recorded it with the same equipment and signal chain.
Likely because it was recorded with bitchin equipment, by an audio engineer who knows what they're doing and used appropriate post-processing, combined with the fact that the LEGOs form a solid enough shell to produce sound like a normal snare (shouldn't be too surprising given acrylic drums are a thing).
It has a ton of processing on it so that's a big part of the sound
samplers and processing. reverb, compression, parallel compr, eq., noise gate, etc.
I actually enjoyed the low tunings a lot but I have a theory as to why the high tunings sound so good: Lego bricks can withstand an incredible amount of downward pressure (that's why stepping on them hurts so much), so the tightening of the bricks toward themselves cause the body to become more dense, giving it more resonance, which is why dense wood usually makes for an overall better snare.
I'm a simple man. I see LEGO snare, I click
Same thing for me
I love watching sam getting slightly better grooves and beats in every new video he posts. It's like watching your child grow
I have to be honest as a big time Lego nut I've been curious...
Then someone went and actually did it
It's frickin awesome!
And it won't hurt when you step on it!😂
умоляю подсказать - а возможно ли что с барабаном TAMA - что то случится от нахождения зимой в канаде в сарае? Или ничего страшного?
That high tuning was the business. Wasn't expecting such a good sound out of it, being plastic and all.
умоляю подсказать - а возможно ли что с барабаном TAMA - что то случится от нахождения зимой в канаде в сарае? Или ничего страшного?
This thing would be great for recording. Sounds very neutral even without the dampening
As a drummer and a LEGO fan, I am happy with this.
I just love how much fun it looks like you're having when you drum
Putting an ad for an therapist In an drumming video is pure genius
Who could’ve guessed a Lego snare drum sounds better than a lot of pro snare drums
the fact that it's possible to change shell depth is good on it's own. it's also possible to put roof tiles on both bearing edges if you put bricks with studs on both sides in the middle. not sure how to make snare bed, except with a bit of sanding
why does that unironically sound really good?
fr how tho
😳 ... 🤯 ... Sounds Sooooo Good!!!!
So being an audio engineer, I immediately analyzed the acoustic physics happening to make that sound possible ... Straight pieces, so its not perfectly round and they're highly reflective too. But, they're also hollow allowing for some absorption and its full of micro gaps at the joints which lets the air and sound escape.
So while the inspiration for this idea may have come from whimsical novelty, its really freakin Genius!!!
I highly recommend everyone get started on building your own Lego snare, and more, before the industry catches on. 😉 🤘😎
Man I love the sound of this snare! Thanks dude!
Dude. Has anyone ever told you that your beard/hair combo is immaculate? Where does the beard end and the hair start? Where does the beard start and the hair end? Chefs kiss 🤌
hahaha thank you
That actually sounds great
That sounds badass, I need one of these, your playing in awesome as usual❤❤❤
I hope you permanently use this snare on your kit! it sounds dope!
Shoutout to Matt. You officially won the game.
I’m a drummer AND a Lego collector, why have I never thought of this before? Like at all!!!??
Snare straps: cellophane from the packaging that legos come in?
Got to be this.
that sounded like a gunshot OH YURRR! 🤘
Old Batter/Reso heads? (For the snare straps) I would have freaked out as a kid to see this! Sounds good too! 😂🎉
Oh it's even funnier than old heads, if no one guesses it by the weekend I'll tell ya!
i think they're plastic bottle strips
I love this sound!! I actually liked the first one best, with the medium tune and no damping. Badass!! 🤘
You make me continue to practice every day. Thanks man and rock on 🤘
Kickass sound on that bricks!
How about a Lego pedal to play with no shoes on?
😂
Simple, tiles
If it sounds like you're being shot at, you know you have a good snare on your hands. This one truly surprised me.
Thats snare sounds so fucking good! I'm blown away... It doesn't ring at all and wow is it warm sounding but with a perfect plastic tone similar to the woody tone.
Just wow! Sounded amazing for plastic blocks being the shell
I love lego, AND drums.
This is perfect.
This would be so sick! We gotta buy a but load of Legos and build a whole drumset, possibly a sound cart
It sounds great and why wouldn't it, Vistalites do exist!! I own a couple of Ludwig snares including a Supraphonic, a Pioneer, a Maple Classic and a Vistalite. I find the Vista sits right between where the metal Supra and the wooden ones do... The clarity and crispiness of metal a bit muffled and warm like wood. That's what I'm hearing here! Great job!!
Yessss! That high tuned sounded amazing!
Well color me 22 shades of bahee, that sounds surprisingly good! My favorite has to be the middle tuning with the snare weight.
This worked surprisingly well!
I wonder how much passive venting it has due to the spaces and gaps between the Lego? It would be cool if you could modify the venting on the fly with removable Lego panels or something. Also, Coke bottle Snare Straps?
If I don’t see you play on an entire kit of legos now l’m going to be disappointed.
It sounds really good!!
Dude! Shoutout to the builder this snare is epic! Also thank you for the best drum videos, they def make my day, I laugh I cried crapped my pants ! Keep it up man thanks for being rad!
You need a whole Lego drum set bass the lot haha sounds pretty good to me
as a drummer and LEGO Master Model Builder, this video makes me so happy
Sounds very put-together.
That snare sounds awesome at the high tuning. Rock on!
Totally feeling the pain of the snare-weight! I attach/detach mine many times during a 4 hour gig! Makes tuning/detuning throughout a show even more challenging!
You showed me proper blast beats! Now I hear them fuckin everywhere! Thank you!
Dude You Gotta Do Another El Estepario Siberiano Reaction ! He's Been Playin Some Insane Stuff !!!!
Love the high tuning on this! One might say it's got me "bricked" up 😏😂
Started actually sounding like a drum in the highest tuning. The lower ones felt to me like that what a snare would sound like if it was possibly to build one without a shell at all. Didn't sound like it had any resonance at all at first, so I'm glad we found a nice ring to it at the top!
This thing has no business sounding that good.
умоляю подсказать - а возможно ли что с барабаном TAMA - что то случится от нахождения зимой в канаде в сарае? Или ничего страшного?
that was RAD!
Thats crazy! But surprisingly crazy good! I love the really high tuning! I think the snare straps are made from motorcycle helmet tear offs. Ok where are my Lincoln logs i need to build a snare.
I f'n love how it sounds! I'm curious as to how a whole kit made of Legos would sound.
That snare is mega!!
The playing even more so!!!
This absolutely slapped at the high tuning!
As a Lego enthusiast and a rookie drummer, I see this as an absolute win
That sounds cool! To me, it sounds like a film of water is lining the drum head. Has a VERY distinct “muddled/muted” tone to the sound, while keeping that snare “snap” tone when he tuned it tight later in the video.
The highest tune was the best! Cool sound, oh yuurr!!🤘
I feel like it has more of a tom like low resonance than a snare drum crack but that kinda gives it it's own sound.
Definitely the most lego drum sound I've heard
Yoooo, that first tuning you did was perfect! So meaty and cracky. Like, for real i'd love that snare for my band XD
Very 'And Then She Bled..' kind of punchy open sound to the high tuning. Huge fan very unique!
That snare sounds THICC!!! I love it!
I really really like the sound... sick work! 😯
I want a whole set!
Sounds better than the cheapest snares You can get ... and looks a 666% cooler 🤘🤘🤘
If this was an official lego build it definitely wouldn't be cheap 😅
Crazy attack, and poppy
So does this mean I DONT have to spend 4K on the DW cast bronze snare anymore?
That sounds absolutely KICKASS & yeah I agree the high tuning sounds friggen AWESOME 🤘😝🤘
умоляю подсказать - а возможно ли что с барабаном TAMA - что то случится от нахождения зимой в канаде в сарае? Или ничего страшного?
That's a nice thick, solid sound.
this is givin me an inspiration to build an edrum set made out of Legos - shouldn't require to me to use as many Legos, right?
But then I'm a glutton for punishment - the ekit I'm currently using to learn on is a homebrew one built around the module, a pad, and a hi-hat pedal from a Yamaha DTX400, connected to a modified Rockband 3 drum controller, and homebrewed bass drum tower and cymbals (the latter made from dog frisbees I bought at Dollarama). Mostly used for practice, but now dipping my hand into recording with it.
Sounds wild! You should post a vid
Definitely high tuning for the win
I see u luvvv those drum-tec stuff 🤘🤘🤘🤘
I looove the sound!!
3:11 my favorite sound
6:55 also my favorite sound
It sounds awesome
This has just blown my Lego mind. Let's see a whole kit.
You can hear how solid it is. Kinda blocks the sound because you don't really hear resonance. Only hearing the head strike. 👍
Dope Snare! even doper that you always promote Better Help
Two of my favorite things, incredible.
Dude get some glow in the dark or transparent colored legos to build whole drum set it should POP the whole looks of it should do the trick to make it badass!
love this idea :)
I'm actually considering it!
blast beats and legos i never thought the two would be one someday
I think that's my new favorite snare. Holy crap
Nic loves LEGOs, Nic loves Drums = OHHHHH YURRRRRRRR
Surprisingly good to the point where I’d use it if I wanted that sound. Man did that thing have almost no overtones!
These snare straps have got to be from the numbered plastic bags in lego sets
