It's easy to do w/ the bass line. Trading 8's without support & landing that 'one'-THAT'S the trick.

@@jazzdrumschool Practicing solos out of the Charlie Parker Omnibook is helping me w/ my phrasing. Something with me starting too soon/before the 2nd half of the eights. (measure 4-5). Then aiming for a phrase to get me back in to time. I'll nail every time w/ the bass, but without a bass? Men from the boys.

My trick is to think the tune and riff on that. And always based on the bebop . Uhh say bebop and play it. Take it from there. Ohh and I always say to myself no Buddy and no Ginger!

Thanks for the question and for watching. It's all the same approach. One think to keep in mind for faster tempos is you need to relax your muscles. Also practice soloing at all tempos from slow to fast. Tension will wear you out both mentally and physically. Keep swinging my friend 🤙
