Thank you for another great lesson, I wish my 4s were more consistently inspired and this may help! I hit the link but it just brings me to a sellify sign-up page. Could there be an extra space or something?
Probably the best jazz drum channel on UA-cam
Wow! That is very kind of you. Thank you🙏🏾
No doubts about that
Definitely... not much out there specifically based on bebop and jazz in general. There are some that try to talk about but fail mostly... Drumeo and 80/20 drummer come to mind. Q knows his stuff! The drumeo guys should pay him to do a whole course!
That’s exactly what I said! Great channel!
It's when you incorporate the rests in your soloing that the subtleties come out. Great video as always Q. I barely get to practice but your content is a plethora of noble reminders on the art and craft of jazz drumming.
I appreciate that Dark👊🏾. Yes, the silence in solos is usually the best part:)
Trading = Timed Exchange we trade before and after other players, ideas work well when musicians use the exchange to enhance the musical elements of the compo. The balance of min/max contributions is so well explained by Quincy. I remember a sax trade that was so amazing the drummer waited through his trade and just at the end tapped Di Bop ie. Thankyou Quincy
My pleasure!
This lesson was perfectly exactly what I needed to hear 😆. Loved the “Common thread” approach. I feel like I need more of that in my trades.
Glad it was helpful Mike G!
At first I thought the lesson was going to be on how to be a hibachi chef with the way you were flipping those sticks around. Glad that little girl set you straight. I’m guilty of almost always listening and playing off of the others in the group, or I’ll try to feed them something if I feel the group needs to go a different direction. So, I’ll have to keep these tips in mind so I don’t get stuck doing the same thing over and over. When you named Jimmy Cobb and Frankie Dunlop right out of the gate I was like yes sir! Two of my all time favorites! Keep doing what you do Quincy! Your channel kills! Only one I never miss. FP ✌🏼
Yeah, I was a little bit out of my lane with the flips at the beginning Frankie; perhaps a bit misleading, but glad you stuck around to figure out what I was actually trying to teach :-) thanks as always, for watching my videos, my friend.
Got recommended this as an ad, never click on them but sth abt it brought me here. Love the community feel in the comments, and love the way you present the info. You just gained a subscriber.
Welcome aboard and thank you for the kind words! Look forward to reading more comments from you, Hayden Hannah… Hannah Hayden. One of those🤣
Another goodie MrQ, every time you post a lesson I have to jump up and take it to the kit and try it (whatever the result 😏) ✌️
Please report your findings Markie Mark. Hope the trades find you well my friend:)
Spanish Ned here for some more Qwisdom. Another solid hunk of great advice in how to keep steady while using your creativity. Plus the classic " say it and play it " method . Lovely expressive rebounding and resounding Mr Davis. Until next time, all the best.
My man Ned! Thanks as always for tuning in. Always good to hear you. And yes, the say it/play method never fails:) Til the next time friend!
Such a great video as always! I'm always inspired by your playing and solos, and am reminded I need to practice more lol
I appreciate that!
Thank you Quincy- Always helpful for- having a more sophisticated approach
My pleasure David! Thanks for tuning in.
Thank you for always helping us to unlock those rhythms all around and within us. ✊🏽🥁
My pleasure Luis! Have fun my friend:)
Great lesson. Thnaks profesor !
Boom! Good to hear you brother.
Fantastic! Loved the tips! Congrats on the great work Q!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is hands down the best jazz channel on the internet! These lessons are really useful and very valuable, I needed this tips. Thanks Quincy for all the work you do, you are the best!!
Thanks for your super kind words and for keeping up with my channel!
Mostly exactly perfect! Great instruction, thanks so much.
You’re almost perfectly exactly welcome Chuck!
Thx you very much- once more 👌🏻🤗🙋🏻♂️
You're welcome 😊
Man Quince this is the lesson I needed!! Elvin changes ideas on a
Dime!
Glad you enjoyed the lesson Mikey! Elvin frickin’ Jones😱
Magnifico.⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️
Great lesson as usual. I love trading!
Thanks as always, Walt!
Great tips for trading “4’s” !
I liked especially 4 ; keeping your ear a tuned to what the previous player did and 5 ; having a theme from one 4 bar phrase to the next.
Metric modulation really kicks my butt.
Thanks
I appreciate that!
Another great video like the idea about less is more!
Less is most the time usually always better than more because we naturally want to play more…than less. That makes total non-sense🤣🤣. See you next week!
Great video!! I love your technique. When I read the video title, I thought you meant actually swapping drums. Like buying, selling, trading drums. Lol.
Oh yeah. I guess the title could be interpreted like that🤣🤣. Thanks for watching!
Another very good contribution... Hopefully what is good for you will be for me with a lot of will and dedication. Always very grateful for these practical tips of great value. A very cordial greeting Mr. Davis... with my best wishes. Peace and love ✌
Been a minute War! Always good to hear you brother. Thanks as always for checking out the lesson.
Yet again, a relevant and well- presented vid - you are bang on the money, Quincy!😎
I appreciate that, as always, Mikey!
Super inspiring. Thanks!
That's very kind of you sir. Thank you!
Very nice. Thanks for this 🎶
Glad you like it TDrum!
Very helpful thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
Yes he’s good and definitely helpful
Glad you think so Will!
Another brilliant insight and lesson beautifully played 👌🥁
Glad you enjoyed it PE!
I luv it ❤
Thanks for another great lesson. BTW, I was very happy to finally see you play live, at Billboard Live Yokohama last night.Great performance including scat singing!
Great to see you in the audience enjoying the music. Next time we’ll have to talk a bit with each other. All the best to you!
Wonderful info again! Also very helpful for those days when, for whatever reason, the creative juices don't seem to be present.
That’s exactly it TC. I was actually using these tips and tricks last night. Helped!
Great!! as always, thanks
Glad you liked it Felipe!
First of all thanks for all of the information; I probably owe you lunch and/or dinner by now! Following up on the thinking ahead and listening points I feel like it might be very insightful to hear how this works in a live setting versus just playing time. Just to clarify, if there was a good rhythm section that wouldn't mind you speaking what you're thinking over their solos and how they develop together.
Hearing these approaches in a live situation, would definitely help a lot Nicky! And don’t worry about lunch just keep on watching my videos, my friend :-)
Thanks!!
No problem!
I noticed master drummers take inspiration from other musicians during solos, like a game of catch. If you listen to Ari Hoenig's "Billie's Bounce" live at Smalls, you'll hear that he's "catching" phrases usually at the end of every solo and uses it as his starting point. Thanks for sharing these tips, Q!
Great point! I can recount a few times that if I'd thought less about my "plethora" of chops and listened more the whole room may have benefited.
5:30-8 definitely covers that
Good points about Ari!
Trading was always (and still is) the weakest part of my playing. Thanks for those great tips!
Me too Christoph! Hope the lesson helps.
love your videos (i am also a big green tea drinker) Can you tell me what headset you are using?
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Hey MrQ, what drumheads do you use on the snare drum?? Love your videos 🥁👻
I use Evans UV1 on the snare.
I was hoping this video would help me trade a snare for a set of high hats
Sorry to disappoint you🤣🤣🤣
Quincy a shout out to Steve Smith for his birthday. Maybe
A jazz reaction. His jazz command
And mastery of rudiments is
Pretty insane.
Good call Mikey!
@qtip104Jazzdrumlessons
Happy Birthday Buddy!! You are awesome drummer
Educator! Person.
Tip 4 🤌🏻
Can you please make a lesson on how not to loose the 1st time while soloing even if you don't play the 2 and 4 on te hh, or even if you don't play the 1st time of each bar. Thanks
I’ll add it to my list of ideas for lessons. Cheers!
So what’s the full list? Will be helpful for students
The full list of what?
4:08 Where can we find these volumes?
Link in the description box and comment section.
Odd approach to me. I go for listening to what they are playing and try to get a conversation going between all the instruments mimicking a phrase for instance then changing it slightly next guy does something similar than were on a role.. form and ears ate king
I find it easier to do trades.. but everyone is different I don't have your vocabulary so could be that I'm using theirs and mine.. hard to k oe reason
Still enjoy your lesson good to look at different angles
Right on Ralphie! Yeah some cats prefer trading. Everyone is different for sure. Thanks for watching my man.
I love that gay
❤️❤️❤️
