I worked in the oil patch in So. Ill. in the early 80's. I flipped chain. I had a lot of good times and a lot of rough times. We smoked on the floor and didn't wear hard hats or steel boots. We didn't think anything about it. That's just the way it was back then.
I recall in the 60's pulling off bottom Ralph our old derrickhand could roll a ciggy with one hand and have it lit by the time the elevators reached him.
The worst danger on a drilling rig is the weight which you are working around . Drill string, tongs , slips , etc. You shouldn’t hit anything flammable unless the geologists f’ed up on the depth of the pay zone. That being said, you are still punching a hole in Mother Earth. Did it for 10 years.
I ran a small mobile rotary rig taking soil and rock samples but the drill rods we used were similar just smaller...the coarse conical threads make it pretty much impossible to cross tread.
wat is this.some kinda mini drill rig?and i thought chains was a thing of the past..the bails and elevators are bigger on my old service rig..this stuff here would get you outlawed in alberta canada lol
Im ignorant to the field, but dont you usually use two people to drop the collar? Just seems like a good way to loose toes kicking it in. But impressive as hell, much respect
Yeah right! Let's face the facts, the only reason men put up with women is the pussy. No pussy - they'd never get fed and end up sleeping under overpasses or stacked 20 deep at the landfill.

that chain barely missed buddys face lmfao
Didn't miss his belly tho. You can see him reacting to it then going back to work.
Can someone explain to me what he threw down the pipe at 2:00? Looks like he greased the threads right after.
Hey threw Sapp sticks and it's called dope they don't tease the threads
Dynamite
@@LinusRex1776 Thanks bro
He put soap sticks it’s a mud additive
Soap sticks help cleans the bit when drilling sticky or gummy formations
What happens if it gets cross threaded? Or is there something that stops that

I’m thinking they don’t have a regular slip and cut program.
Every 5 years
Is he smoking on the rig floor?
Sure as hell is
Smoking
nice work jeopardize urs and others life 😅
Seems like there is a lot that could go wrong
They average 50,000.00 per year. should add commission per barrel also.

He should be fired for smoking on an oil rig.
Isn't there supposed to be equality in the work place? Where are all the women? Or is it just for the cush jobs?
Yeah right!
Let's face the facts, the only reason men put up with women is the pussy. No pussy - they'd never get fed and end up sleeping under overpasses or stacked 20 deep at the landfill.
