- Sold my Fujifilm XT4 recently. There were several reasons, not just the unreliable autofocus. It's still a very interesting system and I don't think you should sell it off. But here are the reasons I'm not longer a Fuji shooter in 2021.

I love Panasonic. It's the best autofocus if you are trying to simulate someone who's manually focusing but is not very good at it. And that should be the look you're all going for. It's the look of the future, and my S5 knows how to give it to me.
That's actually an interesting perspective. Panasonic DFD has a very organic, almost charming way of moving into focus. (The only trouble is knowing when to stop. It moves a bit too far, then corrects itself, again a bit too much, then goes back, and on, and on 😭🤣🤣)

every tool comes with flaws. when you transcend the flaws, then you become the master of the tool.. if not, you sell it or ditch it. it's a matter of how you use it. it's never supposed to be about how you like it. most of us keep forgetting this everyday.

The Sony with the 20mm provides the best video image you have ever done.
I download simultaneously to 3 different hard drives. The 3rd is a backup until all editing is done. A copy of each HD is kept in my safety deposit box. Losing footage you can never shoot again isn't fun.
I agree, selling the S1 was a mistake. Now get the S5 and make the Pannie-fanboys happy
I still regret dropping my S5 preorder and getting a new G9 with 2 lenses in its place. Damn reviewers had be believing the AF was worthless, and though it's bad vs. Canon & Sony, it's not horrible. There is a lot to love about the S5 and I may wait until the mk2 comes out or whatever variation Lumix gives us next.

Stick it in MF mode and use the AF on button for quick AFS and then manually pull from that point.
It's a great system if you want to do more like... urban exploration type videos or documentary videos.
Shit if you're relying on it for vlogging AF.
@@Clickumentary I pre ordered it, returned it. Went back to look at what I shot, then promptly went back and ordered a used copy with the 20-60. I hav no lens, but love this camera.
@@CO8848_2 damn that's a pretty solid testimony! Little things also like the built in intervalometer is more robust with the S5. Also the movie specs and codecs and dual native ISO for low light. And the price...kicking myself now.
Your final note broke my heart. My XT3 is in the corner of the room in shame. She can't even look at me. Seriously man, what the.... You should tell the tale of the battle between satan and the fuji ninja assassins. Apparently, satan won.

I love my XT4 and I mainly use it for photos outdoors and some video stuff in studio or on a tripod outside. I don't do much walk and talk, but when I do, it's me filming someone else, not me filming myself.
As my first camera, I love it and I love the lenses I have so far. I don't think I would love it as much if it weren't for the youtube tutorials, especially from pal2tech.

I was a bit pissed that I saw you sold your entire Fuji Kit for 3K on the same day I bought a new XT4 w 16-80mm with grip/extra batteries for a lot more than that!
I got the X-S10 mostly because of this channel, and I'm super happy with it. I don't understand why the X-T4 couldn't match the good autofocus in video that the X-S10 has. I use it with a kit lens and the video autofocus is very good.
The X-S10 made me almost instantly regret my X-T4 purchase. It has every feature I wanted but for $600 less
Something grew in Kasey's eye, a new being. This being requires darkness, hence Kasey wears glasses now. The XT4 never liked the being growing in Kasey's eye. He didn't even wanted to focus on him. And Kasey chose the being over the XT4. It's a pretty sad story. But what's even more surprising is that Kasey ignores that his little being is actually a fetus. But this has nothing to do with the autofocus issue of the XT4. Hope this message helped.
@@Kingjay814 Totally the same! I sent the X-T4 back. My main annoyance was how useless the X-T4 custom modes are. They are vital for my use on the X-S10.

Hi. What Movie AFC Tracking Sensitivity did you have set? I used to have it set to 0 and it hunted too much. Changed to 2 and fixed the problem. I use a Sony A7Siii and Fuji, Sony is better but it's not perfect either! I've done sporting videos on the Fuji with no problem focussing on moving subjects using various AFC video focus modes. But then again, I'm not vlogging in my room wearing sunglasses!!
I guarantee you he never tweaked any settings. I have no issues with focusing. All it took was learning how the autofocus worked.
I'm pretty sure his AF issues were caused by an unreasonable amount of filters stacked on the lens. He had at least two filters used at the same time (black mist and the light sword one)
@@petouser yeah, that could definitely be it too lol can’t use contrast detect when your lens is basically smeared in Vaseline.

I hate to say it but I love these Sony colours…. also I e noticed fuji older generation are better than supposedly more advanced current…. the XH1 pics always catch my attention….. yet to see a good shot on an XT4….

If I ever use video autofocus on my X-T4 (do not recommend) I only use multi. It has never failed me, but I’m not a loser vlogger, though.
Same actually, multi or I just tap and have a specific focusing area. The only time it hasn't worked is with the 16 f2.8 so I returned that lens. For everything else it works great
As someone who's first Fuji is the X-T4 the video AF is uhhh bad. Granted I don't really shoot video but the one or two times I do I'd like it to be reliable. I spent a lot of time looking at Fujifilm because I heard about the updates and support, so I went all in mainly because I like flippy screens and the bigger battery was a nice upgrade. I've taken it all over the place from the FL everglades to major cities it's been a great companion. I don't regret buying it, but I don't think it'll be the long term keeper I'd hoped for.
I love my X-T4, but it's not even 2 years old and the ISO/Drive dial is sticking so when I change iso it'll change into some random shooting mode. When I change the mode back, it's moved the iso. So I'm now looking at sending a 18 month old camera in for service that'll cost who knows how much and not have a camera for a while.
totally wasted my money goin xt4, ended up selling and moving to sony a7s3, which is hard to even get hold off with stock shortages.

@Wingman : Lake it only has a 1 year manufactures warranty. I bought mine in May last year. It started this lovely little issue about a month ago.

It could just be that you're bitter the guy who bought your X-T4 didn't also buy your lenses. Now you have Fuji lenses and no camera. You will need to travel to an alternate universe to find an adapter that will allow you to use them. There is also a firmware update in that alternate universe that gives the X-T4 perfect autofocus, but you will lose the thumbdrive with the firmware in a wormhole on the way back here.
Just when I was about to buy the X-T4 tomorrow. There's a pretty good deal they are having over here giving a free Zhiyun weebill s with it but it ends tomorrow. Now I have to research a lot more in a day on what to do.

I just sold the X100V; I didn't like the Fuji camera system at all.
You could part exchange them all against a GFX100S...
when i compared about 30 cameras’ videos on YT (M4/3, FF, Sony, Panniboi, Canon, etc) the XT4 displayed the best on my high end 4k TV. Sadly i ordered one w/ 18-55 frm BestBuy & after a month of waiting, my order was cancelled. It was probably sitting off the coast of SanFran :(

Agree, however as a videographer I want a super35 sized sensor. There is just no other option for a small wallet…
I'm so glad I didn't jump on the X-T4. Like *literally every new camera* that comes out it can walk on water until it is beaten down and all its weaknesses exposed.

I bought mainly because of colors and stabilization.
I have a sony a6400 that is useless in vlog mode and i hate that much the colors that doesn't matter how much i try,i can't get anything good from it.

If the autofocus is as it was in your videos,i don't mind it at all,for me is already good enough but ofc i'll test a bit before.

Hey, Kasey. Remember you recommended I get the Canon RF 16mm F/2.8 for vlogging with my R6? I finally got it. Damn, that thing weighs next to nothing! I have a Feisol mini-tripod for a handle. I can't wait to vlog with it! If you get the R as you've considered, you definitely want this lens on it.
Only thing is, it's not stabilized. The R6 has IBIS but the R only has digital IS. You hate unstabilized video so you might want the R6 instead. Thanks!

I sold my entire Fuji system for this exact reason. For video it's not the best choice.

I sold my X-T4 and several autofocus lenses and bought a GH5II and Voigtlander manual focus lenses.
Just finished my first 500 shots on my x-s10. It's very similar to Samsung's NX 30. No question dynamic range is better. Unfortunately the IQ is not any better in terms of sharpness. While a good value for new, really the Fuji is about the same.
Client liked some of the Samsung photos better. Yikes.
So the thing about the X-T4 and the supposed lack of "Kaizen" updates is that the X-T4 itself was/is just a physical update in the form of adding IBIS plus notably improved firmware to the X-T3. I know that's disappointing to many, but it's the truth: it's the same processing engine, same sensor, same AF system, same everything, except the X-T4 also has IBIS and a better battery. And you know what? When that same firmware came to the X-T3, it was like a brand new camera; suddenly it had sticky AF tracking (in photos) that blew what it shipped with out of the water. Suddenly its eye-detect AF was actually pretty usable. Suddenly it could focus down to -7 EV with bright lenses (and the list goes on). And that was after numerous incremental firmware upgrades already to a camera that launched two years prior in 2018.
At some point you reach a wall in R&D where a) you reach the limits of what the existing hardware can do, and given that the X-T4 does overheat in certain use cases where the X-T3 didn't, I'd say that's probably true; and b) when you're a small company with limited resources like Fuji, eventually you have to start working on the next-gen hardware instead of continually sinking big chunks of your R&D budget into eking out minor improvements to existing hardware that won't actually make you more money through new sales.
Yea pretty incredible how far the X-T3 came, it's one of the best stills cameras out there IMO. The -7 EV spec is more hand waving by Fujifilm marketing as that's with the 50mm 1.0 lens. Still, -6 EV at 1.4 and -5 EV at 2.0 is quite respectable for a 2018 camera.
Their app is also a major issue. Never connects, fails. So shooting yourself with it is impossible. And Fuji don’t have a remote sensor. Sony is much more reliable to set up, use remote and shoot etc. With A7IV at 10 bit with flip screen at same weight/size as xt4, Fuji apsc has less and less edge and ever lower resolution potential at similar prices.
So if you're choosing the lens first, which lens and camera system would you choose?
That’s what I love my Fuji’s!! My XT1, XT2, XH1 and my GFX system. I’ve been shooting Fuji since my XE1 in 2012. In all that time, and across all my cameras I can count on one single hand the number of times I’ve shot video. I. Hate. Video.

I never owned a Fuji, but I know friends that are sold on them. As a Pentaxian, I know the pain of being in the background, but I find comfort there! I own a Panasonic camcorder for video.

That problem Fujifilm has with the autofocus is apparently a common thing and it has something to do with the IBIS. I have a X-T2 and X-H1, and all do they share same sensor, processor etc., and the X-T2 is an old dog, somehow it has much more precise and confident autofocus than the X-H1...
I highly doubt this is true. The auto focus on the xh1 is faster than the xt2 for stills.

No doubt about it. Fujifilm hasn’t given the XT4 the attention it deserves. But it (and the gorgeous X100v) have rekindled my love for photography and video creation-and for that I’m eternally grateful. I’ll pop back in whenever you post some Fooj content. Lotsa love, man.
I just sold my XS10. It's just not for me. I hate editing Rafs so much. They so much slower to edit than Bayer raw files.
Kasey's next thing..... slow motion Parkour.. I think the medium format thought will frustrate you even more. It's really a photographer's camera, even more so than any other Fuji. I think Fuji should have waited for both the linear motor lenses AND the new stacked sensor before trying to sell a videographer camera. The only thing I see as an issue with an X-H2 is the size of the camera body. Unless, like I've heard, they create two versions and the video version has no EVF, only a flippy screen. I do see others using the X-T4 for video and not having as many issues as you seem to have. But, you're also purposely pushing the cameras you use hard. Anyway, we'll see what happens. I would take a broken Fuji focus over anything Sony. Sony as pissed me off to the point where I won't buy anything Sony anymore. Everything I get from Sony hasn't last longer than 2-3yrs.

@@newzinski6946 yeah that’s why I don’t know anyone that shoots with Sony. all have tested the waters loved the lenses and tech but the bodies sucked ass. Everyone has gone back to Canon or Switched to Fuji even Nikon Z. Sony is going to start to fail now that everyone is catching up.
@@aliaswave If the body alone is going to deter to from doing photography and videography then that person probably isn't focused on top tier professional work or filming. I've used both the XT-4 and Sony A7 series and both felt fine in my hands. Nobody is flooding towards Nikon Z unless you're only into photography and was a Nikon enthusiast from before. Nikon is losing market share every year and lost about 5% last year despite the Z release. Canon is still trying to catch up and make tweak it's market placement. The R5 and R6 are starting to show good signs but plagued with the overheating issue and just high price point.
They're still the market leader for a reason but more people who use them aren't using the new ones and keeping with their older DSLR models which honestly still hold up very well. You haven't given any evidence that shows SONY is "starting to fail" despite increasing it's market share and sales every year. If you're going to be realistic and honest about the camera market then think objectively as to what each company is doing right now and thinking in the future.
Currently SONY's main draw is the fact that it offers A TON of cameras at different price points to fit a wide variety of customers similar to Canon. Their top end professional line is honestly superb and is what professionals gravitate towards with video work.
Canon is trying to re-work their brand after becoming stagnant and lacking innovation. They still offer a wide variety of cameras, lenses, and price points similar to SONY and are looking to reposition themselves.
Nikon is finally waking up to the 21st century and realizing that they may have been in a depression for too long. However the question most people have is "is it too little too late?" They keep losing customers every year and don't offer much to the younger consumer market. First-time buyers aren't looking to buy a Nikon camera and if this doesn't change they may end up like Olympus.
Fujifilm is continuing to be a niche market for a niche clientele. They show moments of applause and care but then they go dark for years about next steps. Their small product line limits users and turns off some consumers since they're not continually producing cameras every year or two to their lineup whereas SONY and CANON can afford to constantly change and adapt. They don't have a top-tier professional camera line so they already eliminate people who are working towards that in regards to videography. APS-C is also a very limited scope that doesn't make enough returns for it's investment so far.
The future is always in flux and things can change but looking at the past 4 years with market share, sales, technological improvements, brand awareness/recognition, SONY and CANON are the only two that continue to see substantial growth.

Where is my Kaizen updates? Its in all those models they have thrown out, they have more models than anyone it seems...they were much better with updates when they had 3 models to focus on. Come on Fuji!
They just released firmware update for XT4, what are you talking about?
I am referring to Kaizen updates, major feature updates to breath life into old cameras. Like when they added 4k video to X-Pro2 in a firmware update, when they added 120p video in X-T2. They now are doing plenty of bug fixes in firmware, like what they have added to the X-T4. They talked a lot in the pat about the Kaizen, but really haven't been doing much of it. The X-T3 got some updates, but not the full Kaizen treatment. That model still doesn't have all the film simulations and the abilities for saving white balance that the X-T4 and X-Pro3 have, which it shares the same processor and sensor with. They SEEM to be withholding some things to encourage upgrading to new models, the opposite of the Kaizen philosophy they talked about. Fuji has opted to roll out new models faster and not pay as much attention to the existing models which still have a lot of potential, like the X-T3. Hey have made a few confusing decisions with models. X-H1 was brought out as a hybrid, and then pretty much right away put all those hybrid features in X-T4 rather than making the X-H2 with these features and keeping the X-T line photography first like it had been. I wish great things for Fuji, they just seem to have lost their way a bit.

They must be lucky that consumer is not CEO otherwise they would sale camera every 10 years.Nobody is forcing customers to buy camera every year, and I think that most new cameras (invluding Fuji) surpass the skills of the photo-videographer and certainly uninformed youtuber who is not able to learn the system.Those big updates from x-pro 1 days are past , you have to realize that Fujifilm also has GFX where they have to split resources. Sony and Canon offer those updates via new body models, sure you can put money on table and have to buy new body, Nikon seems doing Fujifilm path. Luckily we have a choices and only thing what might holds you back is money.Some people are buying stuff they actually do not need or they are probably better off with something else, is this manufacturer issue or consumer won error?

Hi Casey, I’m a photographer that trying to get into video/vlog/travel video stuff. Currently my gear set up is Fuji Xt1(yeah Xt1 still good for photo) Fuji XC16-50mm Ois,XF 23mm f2 and XF 35mm f2.. and also have Sony A6000 with kit lens which i bought for it compactness back then. As my interest in video gain, i tried to shoot video with the Xt1 but i realise the AF is unusable for video, and the Sony stabilisation is crap. So do you think i should invest in new Fuji Body? Or i should i get those one inch camera like Sony Zv1 or Canon G7x for video? A little background blur will be nice…Thanks in advance, always love your contents.

The Fujifilm XT-4 is my first mirrorless camera and I gotta say I do love it so far. I just tested out their 50-140mm lens for some wildlife work and it was a blast. But I'd agree for the most part, Fuji seems photographer first video second.

Those Sony colours are a disgrace (or is that your idea of grading?) but the AF is amazing. I confess I'm a loser photographer, but I'm still amazed the number of times my Fuji actually manages to confirm focus only for the result to show there is NOTHING in the frame that's in focus when I review the output on the computer! WTF.
If I had my way I would kick video off my fuji's. As for autofocus bugger all wrong with it, even faster with boost on. As for magenta, why didn't you tone it down a bit?

I did a test between the r6 and xs10 for video and Fuji in my test do skew towards magenta and canon towards orange/green
the color science on the r6 is warmer than the r5 and you're right...more orange/green. Fuji images tend to be cooler with a heavy magenta tint. Right now Sony's latest cameras have the best color science along with the high-end canons.

The magenta thing. I thought it was me. I spend way too long fixing the magenta colour cast in premier. However I bought the xt4 after watching your review. So thank you but I basically blame you. I hope they do a firmware fix and then I will drink your tears.

I own a XT2 and XT3 and do mostly, paid mind you, video gigs. This, the XT3 or XT4, is more camera than you ever need lol. The AF is plenty good and i know you flip flop your opinions every .5 seconds, but i really dont see your problem. You can borderline use everything for vlogs, i mean you should know this, because you did. If you somehow get to mess the AF up indoors, hate to brake it to you, but that IS usererror.

It's closer to 2 years old. Zero added features, just fixed some bugs.
