I'm not new to stranded knitting but I thoroughly enjoyed your videos. Your method of speaking/teaching is soothing, direct, informative and easy to follow. 😊
First time with two colors. Last winter I gave it a whirl and just didn’t get it. Pulled it out yesterday and it all makes sense. Guess you CAN teach an old horse new tricks. Thanks Jana.
I found it tremendously helpful to place stitch markers between the 16 stitch repeat pattern. The first designs on the lower part of the chart I got lost so my pattern is messed up. But the star section after placing markers I was able to keep track. Loved this video. Always get so much out of your teaching. Thank you so much.
Slow going but I finally got past row 5. Kept losing my place so every 16 stitches I placed a marker makes it easier to just concentrate on what's between the markers. I now feel like I can finish this hat.
I really enjoyed watching this video, it was so clear. BUT BUT BUT I'd like to knit a star pattern on the front of a sweater using straight needles, not circular. Using this classic star pattern, does one have to alternate rows of knit and purl stitches to have that nice 'stockinette' stitch pattern all on the right side? You showed how to read the pattern on straight needles, but won't both sides look sloppy from 'trapping the floats' on both sides? In other words, how can you follow the pattern on straight needles so that it looks good on the 'Right side', and all the carried stitches are all on the 'wrong' side of the sweater. Thanks!
You'll want to learn how to knit the colorwork on the purl side and carry the floats on the wrong side. I do not yet have a video for knitting stranded colorwork flat, so check out this one from Suzanne Bryan, an accomplished master hand knitter. ua-cam.com/video/Wf9a46CEBO4/v-deo.html
You could. You'd need to swatch and see how many stitches per inch you knit with bulky weight yarn. Then make you adjustments for you cast on number and the number of stitches in the colorwork motif that you choose.
As I explained in the video, I increased by making one new stitch after every 6 sts. So that gave me 112 sts overall with 16 new sts evenly spaced over row 1 of the chart. Since that's a multiple of 16, I just knitted the chart repeats as written. Maybe I'm not fully understanding your question?
Oh so sorry I was replying to your answer regarding the extra 12 stitches in your hat with the Star/snow flake. I have a tendency to make things harder then what understanding I think it has to with needing to see to realize it. Anyway thanks for your answer I will try it.

I like you style. Very easy to understand.
I love your podcast. Your teaching is so easy and I thank you so much for sharing!!! Beautiful work!!!
Thank you for showing how to trap the floats! I haven't ever done colorwork (other than slipped stitch colorwork) but I want to try.
You explain so well, I have learnt a lot. Thank you.
It's beautiful! I love the gradient yarn you chose😁
Very Helpful! Thank you!
Also wanted to say this was my first color work and it was a great one to start with. I just used two colors. Next three colors. 😜

Can I use a bulky yarn for this pattern. What adjustment do I need to make? I tend to be a tight knitter. Thanks

My QUESTION is this : how did you incorporate the extra 12 stitches in the row how did that even out?

Thanks but I am not seeing it but will try it to see (brain freeze) lol.
I'm not sure what you're referring to here. Can you clarify?
