Thanks so very much for this introduction for beginners. I always appreciate your patience and excellent tips. I don't think I would have attempted this with many other instructors. On to the next video!
I just started Fair Isle knitting and I’m so addicted! I’m doing one yarn in each hand and it’s vastly improving my speed and continental isn’t as hard as I thought it was! Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial series. ♥️♥️
I don't think I have ever knitted a legit fairisle and am interested to learn the correct way you carry the wool. It is winter here in Australia so Timely. Thanks for the video.
Another great series of videos, thanks! As a continental knitter I think you have the patience of a saint. That being said, I do think I will try your right-handed method in order to get the float tension correct, something I've never been quite able to do with fair isle (holding both yarns over my left index finger). Also, I change my needle size by actually knitting the next round onto the larger needle, thereby skipping the whole transferring process. It works well for me, but, like you say (paraphrasing) "Whatever floats your boat". I'm also curious about what brand of circular needle you're using. The tips seem just about perfect for the project. They don't seem to be interchangeable. Are these a fixed circular, and if so, what brand please. Be well.
Thank you so much! I think the needle brand is Boyd, and no they aren't interchangeable. I do have a lovely bamboo set of interchangeable ones by Takumi. However the best circulars I've ever used are Addi turbos - nickel plated! Also I'm currently working on another fair isle hat to demonstrate how to deal with longer floats, and also how to do a 'proper' decrease bind off for the crown. So please stay stitching and please stay tuned in for more to come! 😉
I have the Takumi interchangeable set as well; they have nice "grab" and are wonderful for more slippery (silk, bamboo, etc.) yarns. They also work well with the thinner yarns: lace weight, sport and so on. I started knitting on Addi Turbos and yes, I agree, they are wonderful for regular plied worsted weight yarns. I'm so looking forward to your new videos. Have you considered doing a "slip-stitch" or "mosaic" pattern; sometimes they can actually look like fair isle, but without the floats. Just an idea. I just finished my second Cloister Shawl (in Mandala - colorway Unicorn) and I think I like it even better in the thinner yarn. Next on the project list is the Arbor Shawl in Caron Cakes Pistachio. Please keep up the great work and be well.
😊 The only thing I'd like better with the Takumis would be pointier tips, but yes I love the grab. I use size 1 turbos with sock yarn and it's a dream! Actually working on some tapestry crocheting which is along the line you mention. Would love to see your work! You can find me on my community page on Facebook and on Instagram under the same name as here. 😉🕷☕
Do you, have a tutorial on how to knit a waffle stitch hat? If not, can you pretty please make one? I simply adore your crochet videos but wanting a good tutor to learn something besides basic knit hats.
Can't wait to do this. I am knitting a baby bankie and listening right now. I am wondering, though, can you just knit the stitches off the 7's with the 8's instead of transferring the stitches?

LOVED doing this with a matching neck warmer for my son.

Fiber Spider I’m using ChiaoGoo and I LOVE them! Very fine point and super slick.

Yup, you can do it that way as well, its just my preferred method. By all means, do what feels most comfortable for you! 😉🕷🕸☕
