- We did it! This weekend I flew a 100 meters with my selfbuilt wings. I used a GoPro-camera on my helmet to film the flight.
I have always dreamed about this. But after 8 months of hard work, research and testing it all payed off. Enjoy!

The question is not, if we are STRONGER than a bird. It is obvious, that we are stronger than any kind of bird.
The crucial point is the RATIO between FORCE and BODY MASS. And in terms of that point birds are much much "stronger" than humans. That's why we can not fly.
I've always wanted to fly, since i was little, almost every night I dream that I can fly and it feels sooooo good. :)

The annoying part is i've never really dreamt of flying.
The closest i've ever gotten was getting wings in a Lucid Dream. I woke up within seconds of seeing the wings on my back.
So sad that i woke up.
I believe the reason i keep waking up is because i don't know what it would actually feel like. I think it would be somewhat easy to learn. I need to know what they'd look like from a first-person view and what they'd feel like on my body, if i succeed in this, my mind wouldn't freak when i get wings in a lucid dream.

Jensen Payne yes, the ideia is something marvelous itself. When I first watched, it did take my breath away. Unfortunately, humans cannot just yet fly like birds. Someday, perhaps, with enough research we will manage it.

Could you imagine, huge carbon fiber wings that are attached to your back with a battery pack and is synced with your hand movements. Pretty sure this will be like swimming Olympics some day.

Alexandru Ioan apart from not being possible physically (to heavy to glide at that speed with those little wings.), the video is made poorly. The CGI is quite obvious, the quality is intentionally bad, the helmet camera is too stable. You'd shake your head wildly doing that...or at least tilt it up and down rapidly.
Doesn't matter that it's fake, the point is to inspire engineers. This would be possible if you included a mechanism that held your feet up, and if you could augment your arm strength somehow (bodybuilding would not work, because the strength you gain is not enough to counteract the weight of the muscle). Maybe some kind of a rudimentary exoskeleton + a very light material for the wings and this could happen.
Well, i'm inspired ! Anyone to join and make it happen for real ?
air filled inlets to increase wing rigidity and decrease weight, fiberglass frame and muscle core based off of avianoid musculature to get proper leverage and increase strength to lift ratios. It's possible but it can only lift so much. Even with the pressurized inlets you'd only be able to lift 150 lbs, maybe 200 with a good updraft. with enough electroactive polymer you'd be able to have as much strength as you need for almost no weight. I'd like to see this some day.

actually it is real,from studying wing mechanics the math checks out. at least in real life,let me explain. So when a wing goes down the man is pulled up every time,creating lift,and that is not all,he has motors in those wings with extreme power,one powerful motor can do alot,and they are super light-weight,so whether you believe it or not,the math checks out.

When I first watched this, I legit believed it was real. I was so disappointed when I realized it wasn't, although I should've already known. Ever since I was little, I wished I could fly. I've had multiple dreams of soaring away, free spirited. I even tried making something to fly with, but I'm not an engineer (just a kid) so of course, it did not work. :(((((

It's too bad this vid was a fake...but let's not lose all hope. I know that someday, man will be able to innovate such a device that will allow us to fly just like birds. We've got the technology and brain power, now we just gotta use it the right way. Take this vid as inspiration to take to new heights.
Nothing will allow humans to fly, from a standing position that is not motor powered. The human body is not strong enough to create enough power to generate lift. That, and our bodies are much too heavy.

For years my dream has always been to fly and this is just so so so inspiring and to anyone who thinks its fake before you go saying crap look around a bit. I believe its real because its possible for man to run and flap wings and fly ,it all in the mechanism that's attached to his arms to compensate for the leverage and strength he needs to get off the ground .because all you need is wing span speed and leverage to give you strength that's in the flap mechanism to give you lift. You got to think scientific believe me it is possible!
Those wings are not scientifical lol... There is no way for the air to pass through the wings on the upstroke, like birds have it. Also you need way more speed or way more movement in the wings to create enough lift/thrust respectively to lift a human weighing at 70+ kilos (which that man definitely did, not to mention the weight of the clothes and the contraption) Sorry but this is absolutely scientifically impossible lol.
With your own strength - you can't fly. If you want to fly like a bird, flapping wings then you will need motorised stroke helpers (so that maybe only 5% of your strength is used for the strokes and 95% comes from a small engine) Also you would need a bigger wingspan, a way to manouver yourself or at least stabilize in case of wind gusts and also as discussed before you will need a way for the wing to act like actual bird wings - the wing will have to be made out of a very light but strong material that would manage the pressure occurring on the downstroke. There definitely are materials that can do that but you still need to engineer a way to twist the "feathers" ever so slightly for the upstroke so the air could pass through the wing, thus not creating downwards thrust.
That... is scientific thinking.

Unfortunately, this is not real. The size of the wings could allow the pilot to fly, but there is a much different issue with this. A human would have to have MASSIVE pectoral muscles in order to accomplish this. A bird has pectoral muscles that are 20% of it's body weight, allowing it to fly easily (which is also why we eat the breast of a bird.)

The idea of having to use muscle strength for this is outdated. Ideally a machine do the work of force and human control the beating of the wings and the direction, of course considerably increase the weight that the wing would have to endure, but replacing a medium sized man of average weight for a smaller woman and lean, and adding a machine to make the strength probably the flight would have much, much longer, because I believe that the short duration of the flight was caused by the large amount of force that the man had to do

It's fake, still awesome for what it is...but it's fake. Which really annoys me because for a short moment I genuinely believed we were getting close to flying and was more than ready to throw money at this. It is possible, I calculated that through, but not in that way this guy did(exept he had perfect wind and mass and all that),altough his flight was very short, but with a big budget and a big specialist-team, it is possible.We have the technology and knowledge to build human wings, with which we can fly for hours, but is the humanity ready for it?

If you believe it's fake then that's your problem but I hope to do the same as this man did, it's not entirely impossible... Just think about it if a plane can generate lift enough to stay in the air 1500 feet in the air then it should be possible for a person to fly 10 feet in the air AT LEAST. So if you think its fake then you are a person without dreams and a heart
I know this is fake. I have dreams and a heart, too, thanks. I dream of flying every single day of my life, so I did some studying on bird wings. The wings don't just go up and down to let the bird fly, the go in more of a circular motion. This guy was making the wings flap up and down- that wouldn't get him off the ground. Plus- even though those wings look big, a human would probably need bigger wings to support their body weight. I do believe that humans will find some way to fly like this someday, though. Or at least, I hope they will!

I bet you all that this is actually real. As an aerospace technician, it is very well possible for a light human to become airborne with wings large enough and assisted electrical power to complement brief periods of human strength which can be up to even 1 or 2 kW, depending on the person's athleticism. The large wings allow for much of the gliding (much like an eagle), and extra power is needed to maintain an altitude or lift higher. World leaders and investors paid him a visit to say it was a hoax and keep his mouth shut probably in return for a life time's supply of money. Keep the technology suppressed, continue to make money, save the technology for future developments which will make even more money. And the guy gets his few million bucks, so apparently, it's a win-win for everyone. It's just how the world goes round and round. How do you think they made trillions off suppressing energy technology?

Hate to rain on your parade, but you would need a mechanism to hold his feet straight out behind him, and it’s physically impossible for him no hold his legs straight out like that. There is no mechanism on those wings, it would be bulky and easy to see, like on hang gliders.

I don't know if this is really fake but I still think it would be possible, I think that 6 wings (like a Seraph) of that size and a very powerful motor could make an attempt to flap, although I think the easiest way is by gliding, like the albatross or any type of large flying animal
