#10 Revamp Moto: This Nashik-based two-wheeler EV startup was founded by Jayesh Tope, Pritesh Mahajan, and Pushkaraj Salunke, they’re building scooters that double as miniature dukaans, or stores. Their scooters, called the RM Mitra 02 and the RM 25 are still in the development stage. The startup recently closed their pre-seed round at $1 million in June of 2022.
#9 emote Electric: This Coimbatore-based electric motorcycle startup was founded by Pranav Singanapalli, and they’re building something unique: India’s first geared electric motorcycle, called Surge. According to Pranav, in certain conditions, this motor efficiency increase can be as high as 35%. This also means that their bike’s motor can be 2.5x smaller than a gearless motor of the same performance, and this size reduction also results in a price reduction too.
#8 InGO Electric: This Bengaluru-based micro-mobility startup was founded in 2018 by Nikhil Gonsalves and they are an indigenous competitor to Yulu. InGO’s scooters are designed and manufactured in India. InGO recently tied up with Log9 Materials, which will be supplying them with Lithium ion battery cells.
#7 Atumobile: This Hyderabad-based electric bike startup was founded by Vamsi Gaddam. Their first vehicle, the Atum 1.0, has a top speed of just 25 kilometres per hour, which is just an MVP. They plan to follow it up with a 50 kilometre per hour variant, the 1.1, and an even faster variant, India’s 1st high-speed electric cafe racer, the AtumVader.
#6 ElecTorq Technologies: This New Delhi-based micro-mobility startup has taken full-stack approach in offering micro-mobility for gig workers. They have battery swapping stations, they have an app so that their users can find scooters and batteries, and they have the hardware itself. Also, ElecTorq scooters are custom-built for Indian roads.
#5 Orxa Energies: This Bengaluru-based performance electric motorcycle startup was started by Prajwal Sabnis and Ranjita Ravi. Orxa Energies revealed their flagship product, Mantis, in December of 2019, and while it’s currently still in the testing stage, it’s already breaking records: it covered a distance of 13,510 km in 54 days - this was done as a way of testing the motorcycle in all kinds of conditions
#4 Simple Energy: This Bengaluru-based electric scooter startup was started by Suhas Rajkumar, when he decided to build a value-for-money EV in January of 2019. He was later joined by his friend Shreshth Mishra as co-founder. They have taken an indigenous approach to build their scooter and that's why the startup has had to delay the sale of these scooters repeatedly.
#3 Ultraviolette: This Bengaluru-based electric performance motorcycle startup was built by Narayan Subramaniam and Niraj Rajmohan. Their maiden motorcycle, the F77, has already received upwards of 60,000 pre-orders from around the world and is expected to start selling in 2022, although there have been several delays since 2020 so whether or not 2022 is the year of the F77 remains to be seen.
#2 Ather Energy: This Bengaluru-based electric scooter startup was started by two IITians, Swapnil Jain and Tarun Mehta. They started by just building batteries for electric vehicle but realised that there was a gap in India’s electric two wheeler space, which they decided to fill. They started by building 55 prototypes, which were financed by the startup’s investors, and these evolved into the Ather S340 which they sold directly to consumers, Where they really made an impact was with the 450 Plus and 450X, the extremely impressive scooter duo that Ather is known for today.
#1 Ola Electric: This Bengaluru-based electric two wheeler startup is a subsidiary of cab-hailing startup Ola, which was founded by Bhavish Aggarwal. In May of 2020, Ola Electric bought Amsterdam-based electric scooter startup Etergo, to build their scooters. In March of 2021, they had announced their plans to build the world’s largest electric two-wheeler manufacturing facility, the Ola Electric Futurefactory in Tamil Nadu. They were the top EV two-wheeler seller for few months until April 2022, when they started seeing issues like fire in their scooters and were eventually toppled by other players.

Note: Tork was not included because they aren't a startup anymore, they were acquired by Bharat Forge in 2021. Same thing with Ampere which was acquired by Greaves Cotton in 2018. Regarding Revolt, 1:00 has a visual comparison of Revolt with the Super Soco TC, a nearly identical bike. You can read up more on this here: www.carblogindia.com/revolt-rv400-is-a-copy-of-super-soco-ts-we-explain/
Do you own a Electric two-wheeler already? If not, what's stopping you from buying one?
i am looking to buy a two wheeler soon, but not electric because most of the two wheeler bikes looks either too childish or too sci-fi.
and the battery fire issues are still a huge problem.
Probably looking for long range bikes.should be sporty and affordable.
Range anxiety is stopping me. 😅
I'm broke😊
Range of ELECTRIC vehicles is stopping me to buy it
Its sad to see Okinawa , Revolt & Hero Electric leading the charts of most selling EV's last month . Ather & Ola were the only indigenous scooters in Top 10 , i hope this will change soon .
Ampere is indigenous too!
True Arpan - we wanted to include them, but because they’re owned by Greaves Cotton, they don’t qualify as a startup anymore. -Caleb
And you are commenting here while using a Chinese mobile/laptop 😂
@@cryptonianbond what's funny in that ? That part is majboori ,
It's almost like he doesn't have a choice ...
But in scooters , bikes and cars he has a choice
🤷♂️
Maybe today he has no choice , let's hope and work to change that in the coming years
Orxa is very much Indian. Rated at 5 and moving up the ladder with their innovations and new features!
6:24 Log9 materials 🔥🔥🔥
Always happy to see them anywhere
The way he pronounced names of Indian guys and some hindi words, so accurately, man, you are lit 🔥
Ola,Ather and Simple one are growing quickly and has a bright future.
Not ola
@@romanreigns8184 There was lot of unjustified extra hype for Ola. Now there is lot of unjustified extra hate for Ola. Ola has gotten much better at its Scooter hardware and software. There will always be complaints but we should see how many are there. If you see in the latest deliveries, there were no issues. Even Ather faced issues in 450 before 450x. But Ather 450 was Limited to small number of people in bangalore and this was before common social media marketing. Everyone is jumping against Ola now, but if Simple has similar issues then Ola will be preferred. Because people who really use the Scooter know how much they are saving and how awesome it is. It's just that some people are very negative on social media.
@@evthink suspension
Ola just stopped manufacturing, bring sub standard parts from China and fool people.
@@evthink ola just shut down their manufacturing process, I don't hate ola for a startup, but if you can't offer what you've promised , then don't.
And simple one continues in its 'scam' stage.
So happy to see relatively very young InGO in second position in micro mobility sector. I wish them all luck. They indeed looks very sturdy yet appealing.
InGO in it's micro mobility sector looks very promising. Sturdy & unique. Have met many happy customers.
I hope Indian youth realises the huge gap of micromobility segment in our society & it's multiplier effect in green-clean environment.
Ah finally a well researched top 10 video. One of my favourite segments.

Great job Orxa Energies
Amazing contribution to make in India 💯💯
Congratulations Nikhil and team! Kudos to your continuing efforts and being among the top 10! 🙌🏽🙂
EV is the future.. spectacular efforts by these young entrepreneurs... I really liked Nikhil Gonsalves venture..
Only Rs 60 of import.. that's really indigenous... Great job Nikhil... Hope to see Bangalore roads flooded with them ..
No problem Ola is coming strong back again they recently introduced indigenously built battery cell which is extensively built according to Indian conditions 😎
So happy to see these Indian startups.. as long as they don't import components from China it's fine
Ultraviolet,atherr, simple one and ola🔥
15:54 Ola Took "Move fast, Break Things" quite literally 💀
The Thumbnail is Litt 🔥🔥
The speed at which OLA is moving I hope that will help establish themselves as a global powerhouse in electric two wheeler industry.
Tork motorcycles. They've been building E-motorcycles for the past decade. Now they're delivering too.
Started delivery?
@@ArpanMukhopadhyay93 Yeah, but only in Pune for now.
Hi Anto, unfortunately Tork isn't a startup anymore, they were acquired by Bharat Forge in 2021: economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/renewables/bharat-forge-arm-hikes-stake-in-ev-maker-tork-motors/articleshow/87872620.cms?from=mdr -Caleb
Always loved to watch your videos . We come to know many Indian startups because of you and your channel. Thanks for that . ❤️
Would like to see more interviews with startups founders .
You are the only non indian who has accurate pronounciation 💓
Great post Caleb on EV tech startups. Ingo and Log9 is a great combo of fire proof battery and fully made in India tech.
Your research and content is amazing.
It motivates me.
You always gather detailed content and present really well. Thanks team BWM.
InGO's bike looks amazing for in its segment. The body appears like a good foundation. I wish company like them get necessary attention. I'm sure their success can encourage larger mass towards mass transportation & less carbon footprint. 👏
watched the complete video, thanks for the great work and this video gave me a lot of hope as an electronics engineering student
Thanks for making this video due to which i came to know about our indigenous EV manufacturers. Thanks a lot
Good research and good pronounciation of Indian names and cities Caleb. 👏
Love from India
Revamp is such a gem , very promising..
I wish they all succeed!
Sadly china imported are being sold in large numbers...Gov need to make sure that people know about these mischievous brands and force them to tell their customers that this is a china produced assembled in india scooter and slap them with higher import duties...that is the only way we can encourage our home grown brands and limit the chinese import as well...
Lol that is against economics. That will fail just like aatmanirbhar India failed. Chinese imports are record high in India. $100B import .
U need to look at real reasons why China makes competitive things and why India fails at it.
Tomorrow if u have ur own company and a component from China costs u ₹10, 000 and the same component cost is ₹50, 000 from an Indian manufacturer u wont see nationalism or india/China there. U will buy from Chinese maker. As simple as that. This is the reason why despite so called boycott China slogans Chinese smartphones capture 76% of Indian market. So rather than crying over China what Indian government should look really at is why Indian products are so expensive despite India having cheap labour and a 7000km long coastline.
Becoz every factor of production is expensive in India from land to labour to raw material.
China is biggest exporter in the world. Indians just see that only. What they don't look at is China is also second largest importer. So u cannt say we will not import anything and put tariffs on urself that is self defeating. That's why despite having highest amount of tariffs Indian electronics never took off.
India needs to import for it to export further. That's how economics works. Economics doesn't care about emotions or nationalism which 99% indians r blinded by.
@@mayurkanth6987 made in india is also a scam. It should be assembled in india.
Govt has already given new rules in which Fame 2 EV Subsidy goes to only those companies making a majority of their parts in India. Making not importing or buying from middle men. Those rules were passed recently after many brands just assembled and resold Chinese EV assembly kits in India. So soon lots of companies will lose Fame 2 Subside unless they get max suppliers/parts manufactured in India
@@mayurkanth6987 "So u cannt say we will not inport anything and put tariffs on urself that is self defeating."
Typical nonsense! China is very foxy when it comes to protecting its own markets from competitors. Indian Pharma products, in spite of them being used almost everywhere (including the west), are blocked inside China using some inane excuse.
India's motorcycles makers like Bajaj, TVS, and Hero are dominating the industry in India and are increasingly also taking the competition overseas. In fact, Indian 2-wheeler brands have decimated their Chinese counterparts in Latin American countries. So, there is nothing inherently wrong with Indian production. India has every right to ensure its ecosystem is protected from Chinese shenanigans.
@@jarjarbinks3193 lol go kiddo watch pogo. U know nothing.
Do u even know how big Chinese pharmaceutical industry is?? China has far bigger pharma giants than india's reddy, sun pharma, biocon etc. Indian pharma companies won't stand a chance in China.
Regarding market access do u even know that China is SECOND LARGEST IMPORTER in whole world?? How is China second largest importer in the world without giving access to her market as u say??
U don't know anything.
Tesla which is a US company is totally dependent on China for its production, sales.
India's TATA whom ultra nationalists don't even miss a day without kissing ratan's a** . Do u even know that Jaguar has far bigger market in China than India??
What market access do u want in China?? Does India have any single global brand like what China has like xiomi, oppo, huawei, DJI, CATL??
Do u even know that China has 120+ FORTUNE500 companies in global list. India has just 7. So what market access will China grant when India doesn't even produce anything.
99% of Indian MSMEs are Micro which employ 4-6 people on average.
Because of illiterate people like u running Indian economy today India is bankrupt.
Indian goods exports were $330Billion in 2010. In 2020 our exports were $285 Billion. So in 10 years Indian exports didn't increase and stagnated. What did Indian government do in past 10 years???? Vietnam increased its exports from $65Billion in 2010 to $330Billion in 2020 ( equal to India whereas India was 5Times ahead just 10 years ago).
India itself doesn't give market access.
India has one of the HIGHEST TARIFF WALLS IN WHOLE WORLD. That's why Indian electronics industry FAILED.
Today China has $660Billion of just electronics exports vs $10Billion of India. Move outside of your town and see India is most PROTECTIONIST country in whole world that's why India's exports COLLAPSED in past 10 years and Indian gdp growth declined since 2016 .
From 2010-2020 India's average GDP GROWTH WAS JUST 5%. Vs 8.3% from 2000-2010 decade.
Even Bangladesh went ahead of India.
Caleb you are doing great work.😄
You have to agree. The time is of India now. Proud Indian. Har Har Mahadev, Jai Hind.
Betting on INGO by Nikhil🤩🤩🤩 cant wait to get one😍
Quite an interesting video because I have seen many e - 2 wheelers other than the 2-3 biggest startups
I was looking for this kind of video thank you bro ☺️☺️
The future looks bright for Indian manufacturing and electric options for the world market.
I am surprised that the electronics like motor drives, lcd, cellular chips and battery charging circuits and microprocessors are built in India. The central government is trying to set up electronic fabs, while these bike companies while not in production yet (except ather and ola who import their electronics) are already building these high end chips which eliminates the supply chain issues. Would love to know more about where these small companies can build high tech electronics, or if they are not up front, and importing parts from Qualcomm, St micro, ti, seimens, ir, etc
For me Ather is the No 1 brand in our market 💖💖
Yeah have driven ather they are the really creators they have a robust chassis.
Amazing!
Thanks bro, i am waiting for long
Great knowledge
Would be great to hear about electric rickshaw golf cart and other utility vehicles. As always, I enjoy watching your informative videos.
Good research and qualitative presentation
Love from India ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks really needed this vedio
Great video!!!
Good one..... you covered good details. Thnx
Ev technology is new nd it is developing in all forms, specifications. Range, durability, performance, efficiency etc. Let's see it's development in future. Good content.
Looks like while I was absent from this channel ,
Think school and BWM had a conversation backstage
The intro style 😁👍
I was wondering when someone would bring this up 😳 guilty as charged - I like what Think School does with their intro, it really sets the stage and is an interesting way to start the video. What did you think of it? -Caleb
Nice one mate..
I dont like ola scooters which are geeting on fire. But, in my mind there is still hope for ola as they are doing things not just promising and we should support indian comapanies, criticise them for their mistakes but also appreciate their efforts. They have power to take risks...cmon guys even elon musk failed
@Freedom so true...That's what I was aying
The aether is amazing !
Thanks for the information.
Looking forward to ather and simple one. I was going to buy an ev 4 months back but there were fire incidents so i stopped
Vocal for Local
Great content
Missed Revolt, Prana, Oddysey, Tork, Oben
Your pronunciation of Indian names is top notch!
Grt work Team.. BWM
Mantis, Ultraviolet F77, Atum & Aether are my favourites and when I can afford one I'm definitely buying either a Mantis or F77
I was expecting Tork Motors and Oben is in list! 👀
Hats off to Gujjus, They have the guts to take risk. Evan some telugu guys are taking risk coming out of real estate to manufacturing. Kudos guys.
Ultraviolet ❤❤ waiting
Ultraviolet looks so cool bro❣️💥🥵🥶🔥🤤
Nice
Revamp Moto🔋⚡️⚡️
These are on fire (literally)
It's good to see some of the companies in the list going in the indigenous designing path, Don't forget what happened to the mobile phone assembers like micromax and lava which did the assembly buissness, just like xiaomi and vivo did, it's just time before these chinese ev's set their own shop in india and there's no going back
Nice to hear about log9 materials and their deal with another startup.
Do you guys think that major established players never took Log9 seriously and inGo being startup themselves didn't take being a startup a bad thing.
Yeah, this sounds spot on to me. Log9 has been searching for product/market fit for a long time, and while there was a lot of hype around them, I don’t think established players really saw them as a threat. Now though, with partnerships with Indeanta Ventures, EKA, Hero, and inGO, I feel they’re slowly but surely establishing themselves. What’s more, with so many years of research and development under their belts, I feel that Log9 has a bit of an advantage in terms of the depth of their tech knowledge. -Caleb
OLA manufactured their in home Li-ion Battery Now. I think OLA is the future and. A Proudly Indian Biggest E Vehicle Manufacturer in making ❤️
I own 3 OLA in our family & I'm very satisfied with my decision. Like everyone else, I was scared of Ola's suspension. & Range problem but when I got delivery of Ola my things are completely changed. & This scootys are very powerful & more futuristic. Haa there is some little problems I hope Ola will improve upcoming Facelift. ❤️❤️❤️☺️👍
Is InGO available in Guwahati? If please do suggest a reply BWM. It looks super cute. Did not learn much about it's product though. I think it matches the tastes of youth of our region compared to what other product looks like atleast in this video. Most looks little too plastic. I hope all do well. Thanks BWM for the amazing insight on all.
To support these indigenous companies, govt must approve of an uniform standard for charging EVs.
Your pronunciation of indian names is perfect
Dont know why ola electric was not up to the expectations...but I still believe ola is going to make it big ...and be a tough competitor for ather
I must say, your Indian name pronunciations are getting better by the day :) And I learned about a whole bunch of companies that I've never heard of, which is great to see that so much activity happening in India regarding 2-wheelers, seeing as they're the dominant mode of motorized transport in it. BTW:
2:08 _route_ is pronounced identically to "root"; a _rout_ means "a disorderly retreat of defeated troops", something entirely different.
5:00 There's no "pretty unique", just like there's no "pretty dead"; something's either unique or it isn't. Just say "remarkable", "different", "rare", etc.
7:18 _kilometres_ rhymes with "nanometres", not with "thermometers" (because it's a unit, not a device). And it's symbol is _km_ regardless of whether it's singular or plural; "kms" would mean "kilometre-seconds", which measures absement or absition.
14:51 Well, I hope they didn't make an impact, because that would be very painful. You probably mean "had an influence".
17:44 Again, it wasn't "impacted"; it was _affected._
BTW, "and so" is redundant; just say "so".
I’ve actually been working on my Indian names, so I’m glad someone noticed! I send a list of names/words I need help pronouncing to Pankaj on our team, and he sends me back a voice memo with the correct pronunciation 😂
Your feedback on speech/words is much appreciated and interesting to read, although I hope you don’t mind if they aren’t implemented in future videos 😅 language is a very fluid thing, and changes from place to place, e.g. where I grew up, for *route* you can say *r-oot* or *r-out.* For *kilometre* we say it the same way I think most people say *thermometer* (not sure if that is also pronounced in India as *ther-MOM-eter* or *THERMO-meter)* - I had never heard someone say *KILO-metre* instead of *kil-OM-etre* until I visited India.
One could certainly argue that there are “right” and “wrong” ways of using English, but that perspective IMO fails to take into consideration the ever-changing and oftentimes illogical nature of language. Another example of this: *based in* vs. *based out of* - when I tell people back home where my company is headquartered, I tell them I am *based out of Bengaluru* because that’s how people in Canada or the US say where they’re based. Taken literally, this doesn’t really make sense though, and so when I say that same thing to people in India, they respond by asking, “Where outside of Bengaluru are you based?” which is why I now tell Indian people that I am *based IN Bengaluru.*
At the end of the day, as long as people understand what I’m saying, I try not to get too hung up on the details. The way I say things makes my presentation style unique, even if it’s _technically_ wrong, and worrying about the correct way of speaking would probably result in a less natural, conversational presentation from my end. Being in front of the camera is already a very stressful thing for me as it is 😂 -Caleb
@@backstagewithmillionaires That's quite the dedication to pronunciation; it harkens back to my university days when the announcers would ask graduates to send in audio files of how to pronounce their names so that they don't mess it up haha.
Re: language, while it's true that language is fluid, it's an oft-used shield for things that are not quite related. Language does innovate and evolve, especially when it comes to meanings that don't quite exist yet, but I try to point out issues when it's just somebody who made a mistake and it has seemed to catch on by more people than it should've.
The _kilometre_ thing is definitely one of those instances, especially given that even NIST (the US national standards organization) and the USMA (US Metric Association), the US national metrication organization, both clearly spell out that it's incorrect to pronounce it to rhyme it with "thermometer". It was a mistake that originated in the US because they spell it using the non-standard spelling of "kilometer" (instead of the official "kilometre"), and since people rarely use the metric system there, unsuspecting people who encountered the word thought it was a device and pronounced it as such. Obviously, there's no reason to perpetuate that mistake, especially when we know better. The thing to note there is that every other metric unit is pronounced properly (centimetre, millimetre, and even micrometre and nanometre even though they have the -ometre suffix). Fun fact: _micrometre_ (rhyming with millimetre) is a unit, while a _micrometer_ (rhymes with thermometer) is a device, so it should highlight the issue with it pretty clearly. That's why I point out stuff like that.
Same thing with _route._ It's no different to the words _routine,_ _bouquet,_ _mousse,_ _bourgeoisie_ ("bougie"), etc. They're all French words, so the "ou" is pronounced "oo". Even the word "you" is pronounced "yoo", not "yow".
While I've never thought about or heard of the *based in* vs. *based out of* thing, idioms get somewhat of a free pass (though I'd never say "based out of"). But there's definitely something to be said about standard language vs. informal, colloquial speech, and knowing what's what is what matters. When you start believing that your colloquial speech is actually acceptable is when you get into trouble (like saying "anyways" when that's grammatically incorrect; it's always "anyway").
In the same way that you're trying to work on your Indian people pronunciation to improve yourself, this is a way to improve yourself as well. Obviously, it doesn't have to happen overnight, but as long as you keep it in mind and work on it, you'll eventually get there. After all, videos can be edited and you can do retakes, so you can always edit out your nervous breakdowns whenever they happen ;)
Indeed commendable the Pronunciations 👍
InGO caught me eyes in this.Would have loved to watch more about its product line.
It is amazing to see that there are so many companies and we had only heard about one or two of these.
The ones which are founded by IITians or serial entrepreneurs generally get the most attention, I can sort of see the reason why which I will mention later & I am not against them getting the lion's share of attention but there is potential in others too, thanks for this list.
The reason is VISION.
Hey BWM team do you guys think if someone from a non star studded background founded a company with huge vision it will get similar recognition among VCs?
I firmly believe that anyone can create a company and get recognition, all hurdles are surmountable, the only thing standing in anyone's way is themselves. If you're creating a copy-and-paste company, or you're tweaking an existing model, then the IIT background helps a lot, but if you have a genuinely inspiring, innovative idea (and you can back that idea up with strong research, team dynamics/culture, an impressive MVP, and all the other things that investors look for) that blows people's minds, it doesn't matter where you're from, what your background is, or whether you went to an IIT or you didn't even complete high school.
People will roll their eyes and say this mentality is naive or idealistic, and those people are welcome to live their comfortable, conventional, _realistic_ lives while the idealists build their lives out of dreams. The only two things separating these two types of people, as you said, is 1. vision, and 2. the desire and determination to execute on said vision. -Caleb
@@backstagewithmillionaires well said Caleb well said. I guess you also recognised the slight advantage IIT background has.
