Is It Value For Money? | Ather 450X FAQs #4

  • Is the Ather 450X value for money? In the showroom price world, it's hard to justify. The range is lower than its competition, the price is usually higher than the competition and while some of its is more gimmickry than real, the competition also offers more features. So it's hard to see VFM as the reason to buy an Ather. On the flip side, the Ather is the one electric scooter in the country that does what it promises to almost all of the time without hiccup, fuss or failure. So while the buying price is high, the experience of living with it is nice. What we mean by that is that you can stay in whichever mode you like as long as you want to -- something most electric scooters still cannot achieve! Range predictions are dead accurate which makes riding it and charging it less of a worry... and so on and so forth. ~

  • @keshavsakthi546
    @keshavsakthi546 Рік тому +80

Its immense value for money imo. Listing down my thoughts on why:
    1. Live in chennai and their public charger network is unbeatable. Around 40 chargers in chennai and short trips like chennai to pondy are now possible because of the grid. What does the competition have in the same city? 3 hyper chargers from ola and also the ola chargers dont have a lock so anyone can just unplug your scooter while its charging (at home or outside on the hyperchargers)
    2. The App just works. Simple things like sharing a whatsapp location to the app and pushing it to the scooter works so well. My friend with the ola on the other hand has to struggle to do the same things and the ather app is just packed with features while the ola app was surprisingly bland tbh
    3. The traditional key to unlock this makes it accessible to everyone in my family and I cant imagine typing in a pin everytime which can also be easily changed and messed with if anyone knows your current pin (the lack of security is a joke) also cant find your scooter cuz someone took it ? Well cant use the app to find it while on the ather you can. With ola, call support for it
    4. The battery warranty. Got a default 5yr 60k km warranty with my 450x while it was add on pack with the ola. I reach for these warrantys anyways and i think most consimers should considering the new powertrain, so in reality what seemed to be price difference on road of 25k between the ola and the ather was much lesser when you added the battery warranty to the ola. Also the ather battery warranty was the only one with a performance guarantee that battery health wont go be below 70%. Also they limit their battery's usable capacity
    5. Service network. My friend had a horn switch konk out on his ola and it took 5 days for them to fix it and send it back to him. I dont wanna live in a world where a switch change takes more than a few hours at best. The same thing took 20 mins at the ather service center(tbh the ather switch quality is passable at best but atleast when it breaks i know i can get it changed in a giffy)
    6. Better suspension: trust the ather suspension and lot of confidence for me coming from the 390 duke. The ola suspension was good but it wasnt speaking to me much and that front scares me. Cant ride a vehicle the way you want to if you are wincing everytime you go over bump hoping nothing happens.
    7. Bootspace - 22L ather vs 36L ola. Again numbers dont give the full picture. The ola boot is wide but doesnt have depth. So none of my helmets actually fit inside the ola. Any half decent steelbird or vega helmet doesnt fit either. The ather is accomodating a full size helmet tho.
    8. I got a cool exchange bonus of 12k when turning in my old aprilia sr 150 (2016). The dealer took it for 35k + exchange bonus 12k. 47k for the aprilia was not something I was getting when listed on olx only. Ola had a 8k exchange bonus during the same period plus their appraiser didnt give 35k for the aprilia and quoted 28k. So 4k extra bonus + 7k better appraisal value + standard 5yr warranty worth 8k. Totaled to 19k and the difference onroad was 25k ish. So I essentially paid like 6k more. So was it even expensive then ?
Okay so what did I lose?
    1. Extra range. On the ola I was getting 15 to 20 km more per charge. Which Im okay with, but was far from what people are led to believe will be the difference. 170km vs 105km is what youre lead to believe but reality is often dissapointing. The writing was on The wall tbh. 3.7kwh on ather vs 3.9kwh on ola s1 pro. Theoretically 170 was not possible at 40-50kmph ever.
    2. Speakers : I actually dont give a damn about this. Total gimmick
Tldr: I essentially paid only 6k more for the ather compared to the ola. While the narrative among journalists is that the ather is expensive. Imo it's not, do I blame schumi for misrepresenting, nope. I dont doubt his integrity for a second but I also would suggest consumers to test ride and visit stores as ground realities are very different and journalists cant account for every offer scheme being rolled out at the stores and reality is very different from paper. The ola was the better product on paper but quickly fell down in my eyes when I went down and interacted with the product.

    • @The_h8

what about ola s1 vs ather price difference ?
i got my ola s1 at just around 1.13 lakh
top speed - 95 ( motor power same as s1pro)
range 110 k.m on normal mode ( just accelerate gently )
I have covered 11000 km in 4.5 months. Once there was a software glitch and once the nuts came loose
so yeah your ather is overvalued
and ola me LG ka battery hai toh aaram se 1 lakh km chal jayega uske baad range kam hoga

    • @keshavsakthi546

@@The_h8 I have given you multiple reasons on why it really isn't. Things like the Ather grid, charger lock, better suspension, vastly better battery cooling systems. All of these things Cost money and I'm ready to pay for it. I just don't look at cost of the product but also look at why that cost is there in the 1st place. I also don't trust Ola, i work in the auto industry. Ola's testing and validation have long ways to go and I would only purchase an ola 4 years from now once it's proven to be a long term reliable vehicle. Ather has that track record and there are vehicles in chennai that have crossed 70k kms on their 1st battery still running without any replacements. I literally paid 6k more than the s1 pro to get my 450x and I got a much better product for it

@@gaurangnaik850 no, you are wrong, suspension toh ola ka hi better hai agar chalane wala professional rider hai toh use feel ho jayega suspension quality (accident ke case me ola ka suspension band hone ke jagah tut jata hai kyuki single fork hai),
ather grid mere kisi kaam ka nahi kyuki mai road me 2-4 ghante charging karte huwe khade hona pasand nahi karunga (ola ka bhi hypercharger hai)
battery ke mammle me LG aur samsung ka ka koi mukabla hi nai hai ( ola me LG ka battery hai)
cooling system? kisi kaam ka nai hai ather ka ( reason battery jaldi kharab hota hai agar battery ko heat kiya jaye toh toh mere hisab se bewajah battery pe load hi kyu dena agar 100 kmph se upar chalana hai r15 lo aerox lo ya fir ktm, pulsar lo)
      trust issue?
ola etergo naam se europe me kafi pahle se sale ho raha tha, mujhe european standard ki gadiyo pe jara bhi doubt nahi hai bas ek dikkat hai ki ola jyada hi fancy hone ke karan kafi scratches aa rahe hai
      power?
ola me ather ke motor se 1.5 guna jyada power hai, ola wale power ko limit kar ke rakhe hai taki battery pe load na pade fir bhi hyper mode de diye hai taki log power feel kar sake lekin kai namune log usko use karne lage hai jisse wo kafi power consume karta hai aur battery heat hota hai
agar ather aur ola s1 pro ka price same bhi ho tab bhi mai s1 pro hi choose karunga ather me jab koi dikkat aayega na 3-4 ya 5 saal baad toh repairing cost bahut jyada lagega
note - ather mera favorite ev tha jab tak market uske competition ola, chetak, vida nai the
agar mujhe ola me trust issue hote toh mai chetak leta kyuki ather bhi just startup hi tha aur agar ek startup apne aap ko apple samjhe toh usko mango samajh lena chahiye

While searching for a scooter, I initially considered Ather, then Ola, and finally the Chetak. After thoroughly reviewing technical specifications and user feedback regarding issues like overheating, scooter explosions, safety records, and company service, I have made the decision to purchase an Activa 125. It offers significantly better security and stability, along with compelling reasons to opt for it. I am of the opinion that India may not be fully prepared for electric scooters, especially given the questionable claims regarding battery range made by electric scooter companies. Furthermore, these scooters seem to lack significant second-hand market value, with very low or almost non-existent resale value. Therefore, I have chosen to go with a petrol scooter.

I booked test ride and went to the experience centre which was somewhat far from my home and when I reached there, they said the vechicle is faulty and there is no test ride vehicle available. Then I went to ather service centre which was ver far from my home and i didn't even booked on that day, and I got the vehicle to test ride and I saw 2 other people's also test riding. Then there was another ola experience centre, went there and was roaming around there to ask for a test ride, surprisingly the ola employees in there didn't even mind me and a finance employee of ola just came to me and gaved me vechicle(he didn't even asked me my licence lol).
