Just to note, antilag in rally cars is significantly different that “antilag” on most lower end ECU’s that guys will use for launch. The rally systems are not just retarding timing. They’re a full air bypass system where the turbo cold charge will actually recirculate into the exhaust and fuel will be added normally by retarding timing and then a secondary ignition is used in most cases. It’s a very advanced system and really really cool. It’s now being used in Formula Drift as well for those that don’t follow either. Worth noting because I think your info was a bit misleading.
Will Palmer for engine longevity, peg for to floor the second the engine starts and let is bounce off the Rev limiter, this will warm the engine up faster and promote better oil flow, increasing lubrication and engine longevity. It even says so in every owner's manual, don't look, you can trust me.
Also good to emphasise something between 2-step vs Anti-lag Yes, 2-step *can* build boost, but it isn't designed to, it's only a side effect. Anti-lag is purely for building/maintaining boost, and will maintain higher boost pressures than 2-step is capable of.
I just realized that I think backfire is when fuel accidentally combusts into the intake of an engine when experiencing bad valve timing or valve float or something like that
It isn't ignition in the hot exhaust, it's ignited by the after fire of the following cylinder otherwise on older cars without all this electrical stuff in them, if you reved it and then turned off the ignition there'd be a constant stream of flames, instead there's just one pop when you turn the ignition back on. The hot exhaust merely flashes the hydrocarbon fuel into a vapour making it much easier to ignite. If a hot exhaust ignites fuel vapour you'll get a constant stream of flame from down the pipe which will make a very characteristic whoosing noise where as after fire ignition makes a pop or bang. An example of exhaust ignition would be some high end lambo's where you can see that blue flame on the exhaust sometimes under acceleration. That flame also contains a lot of very hot oxygen.
What about hard cut limiters or "popcorn" limiters on a diesel engine? Would the risk of damage be the same? I heard it can be bad for the timing belt.
anas boulkhalil when you close the throttle there's a moment with a lot of fuel that doesn't get ignited hits your exhaust causing flame so when you lift off throttle to up shift quickly this happens rapidly there's more fuel and higher chance of this happening
tangles01 yeah that what i think it's a valve that causes the pop up sound because it sounds loud even if it shifts in low rpm and it does not sound like a gas explosion
@@Anarchy-Is-Liberty A two step (Rev) LIMITER limits the RPM in two Ranges, a low range that keeps the RPM at a set "optimum" for maximized grip on launches and and a High Range which is the maximum RPM the guy that sets it wants the engine to run at. They just cut the fuel (and/or ignition) to prevent the engine reving past the set thresholds. Antilag basically dumps unburnt fuel in the Exhaust system by retarding the timing to get Afterfire (not backfire) to keep the turbos spooled. This is mostly seen in racing as it will put a lot of stress on the Turbos. And generally cars can afterfire for a bunch of reasons, not just limiters and Antilag. I by the way wrote the comment before checking what video it even was on since its an old comment. After watching the Video again, this is exactly what he explains anyways...
a s no need to be rude about it bro. Now that I think about it, that's probably what he was taking about with all the anti lag and backfire in the first place
A word of warning using the Bee-r or any other ignition cut that uses the same method of cutting ignition which is to ground out the coil and stopping the spark But the spark has to come oui of the coil regardles as the Bee-r cuts in the middle of a cycle causing a random spark at any point in the cycle. If you like your engine and don't like DETONATION and your engines lifespan being reduced then take note. Also If you do use the Bee-r, make sure you have a straight through exhaust as large restrictive silencers tend to explode when full of fuel in them.
what is it when you hit the limiter and the engine instead of constantly bouncing like that, just bounces once and loses all power for like a whole second or even two?
Special Ignition cut is also bad, reducing your spark plug timing can make your car slower. Pretty much any unburnt fuel makes it slower because you're not getting enough air and as we all know air is quite important when it come to engines.
A question, why do cars start to require costlier and more frequent repairs the closer the vehicle gets to end-of-life? Like initially the car may have one or two trips to the shop a year when new, but 10-15 years later, it sees a new repair and parts replacement once a month, maybe 2 months if you're lucky, the value of the car dropping to the triple digits, until it becomes more economical to just buy a new car. Essentially what happened to mother's minivan.
Cars are a combination of tens to hundreds of different systems with tens to thousands of different parts comprising each system. Any one of them can fail or cause another part to fail more often and age is the killer of all.
Soft cut wont cut all cylindera at once it kinda rolls into the cut and hard cut once it sees the cut condition will cut all cylinders are the exact same time.
Great video. I always heard these terms but never knew what they meant I've noticed that my civic (bone stock) has a Rev limiter that kicks in at like 4500 RPM when the car is stopped and in neutral. I guess it's to prevent people from revving to redline and putting it in Drive to launch the car.
I didn't know that was to protect the torque converter. I discovered this rev limiter in a rented Dodge Challenger R/T and assumed it was put there by the rental company to prevent customers having too much fun! ;)
That turbo panda at 2:42 got me 😆

yeah i have a question
So how do i replace my piston return springs?
watch chrisfix he has a video for that
do you have an elbow grease ? if yes where did you bought it ? i badly need one thanks
First cut the muffler and remove muffler bearing because if you take them out they expand and explode on your face
You need a long stand.
Use some soapy wooder to soften the grease.
And remember guys, it is always best to use all of the above limiters on a cold start for maximum results ;)

Will Palmer also, if your car has a turbo remember to floor the living shit out of it then turn it off abruptly
Helps to lessen the turbo lag overtime
Instruction unclear, piston caught in ceiling fan.
It helps let everyone know how cool you are too
If you put petrol instead of engine oil it creates much bigger and louder pops and bangs.

i want to say i saw one in a vid not to long ago. i think it was from carthrottle as well. i was like what thats cool when i saw it.
I still can't understand what causes the exhaust pop up when you shift up in new cars like A45 amg and RS3 and the golf R and other RS cars
anas boulkhalil when you close the throttle there's a moment with a lot of fuel that doesn't get ignited hits your exhaust causing flame so when you lift off throttle to up shift quickly this happens rapidly there's more fuel and higher chance of this happening
I think it;'s got some fancy valve system int he exhaust too, as I've seen them pop when slowing in city traffic at low speed and RPM.
tangles01 yeah that what i think it's a valve that causes the pop up sound because it sounds loud even if it shifts in low rpm and it does not sound like a gas explosion
Also worth to note: Not everytime a car goes bang its because of Antilag or 2steps. (Gotta love the compilation videos that get this all wrong)
"Antilag or 2steps" - you mean Antilag or rev limiters! 2 steps don't limit anything, in fact they increase something more than limiting it!!
One question can hard cut damage your turbo
I knew a bit of that before just thinking how it could work, now I know.
A word of warning using the Bee-r or any other ignition cut that uses the same method of cutting ignition which is to ground out the coil and stopping the spark

CarMaster_316 Ignition cut is perfectly fine. Fuel cut is very bad.
Some people don't care though, which is bad.

If hard cut cut the fuel or spark at once so is there any pop throw exhaust..???? Because no fuel enter in cylinder or exhaust ..

So why does it pop on naturaly aspirated engines on upshifts, please ?
Julien the engine probably run too rich, or a bad spark so the fuel doesn't burn completely
