I have 2 TEAC V-518X Cassette decks that were in non-operation for some time. Replaced the belts, of course, and had to let the fluorescent displays come back from the dead by just playing a cassette through for 1 hour. All segments are now working. Your video just reminded me that this unit behaves a lot like VCR's with the cam switch. What was the problem I was having with both units? Played without issue, but if you tried rewinding and attempted to ffwd, it will only rewind. Play will work but not every time. Same is true if you try FFWD and then try RWND. It latches to whichever function you try after playing. Only way I could break it from that latched operation was to remove power. Now I am suspecting that the switches are not connecting or in alignment somehow , like you showed. Thanks for the vid. I can't wait to see if that helps solve these 2 matching units!
My V-770 had this issue. It was the rotor contacts of the reel motor and the brushes of the stator that were very corroded, clean those and you are good to go. Search for my post on TapeHeads
I had the same issue with not playing but moving the teeth didn't do it - it's caused by the cam stop being past the last contact (on the first of the two cam tracks, closest to the gear teeth). My fix in the end was to glue some shims in (about 1/4" worth) and that does the trick. Much happier now as it was a 2nd hand complete non-runner with dead capacitors, gooey belt and filthy circuit board. Now all I need is a calibration tape but so far playing 50's jazz (curtsy of the Goon show) it can't be far out.
That's very interesting to know and learn about... I have four tape decks I would definitely like to repair, but I don't have the proper tools... I would like to learn more about maintaining the tape decks and where to find replacement parts for the models that I have in my collection......
This video helped a lot. I cleaned off the rotary switch contacts (black gear) on the mechanism that lifts the heads and performs the eject. It is working now but I removed all of the grease on the rotary plate with the contact traces ad cleaned with deoxit.. What grease can you use on those sliding gold contacts? Is it Ok to leave the contacts ungreased?
No, i check it, i think it's on the pcb....but where ? I need to take lessons in electronics to detect faults myself. I don't think it's much of a breakdown, but it's blocking me, it's a shame, I've checked all the mechanic and she work very well. It's a robust deck but i have this litle problem.
Had the exact same issue and this video was immensely helpful to revive my deck. Thanks very much.
Glad it helped you!

What is the lenght of the belt?
I'm not sure. I bought a belt replacement kit from a seller on eBay. Search "Teac V-770 belt kit".

Glad to help! No need to grease the contacts. DeOxit is all you need on those.
Hi, I have the same issue, can you tell us a good source for replacement belts, or the size of the belts?
I got my belts from vintage-electronics.net. About $20.
@@litzdog911 many thanks

Perhaps it is just a poor solder connection at that RCA jack? Try resoldering the connections at that jack.

Would u like to show me how to change the capstan belt in teac a106 sir?
Sorry, I don't know how to do that. See if you can find the service manual (hifiengine.com). Good luck.
