It was strange to see the old fuel line be pulled out by the tank and the new one popped into place through the tank. I thought you might have been wrong so I did it the other way and found out that the connector didn't fit snugly on the carburetor. The other thing I missed was that the flat edge of the grommet faces left. The fuel line is the most aggravating piece of this setup. I appreciate your time and efforts detailing out this process.
Excellent video. I love my 025 and it just stopped running right after years of service. I have been fighting bad gasoline and the saw has been losing power over time. For a $15 part with this video I replaced the carburetor and fuel line in less than an hour. The Stihl ran like new; I forgot how well it worked when running right. The video was the perfect pace and instruction. Two notes: the kit I purchased had a bigger lip on the inside tank side of the fuel line seal (different than stock). Easier to pull it through from the bottom from inside the tank and seat it. And it is easier to put the throttle linkage on to the carb before you fully seat the carb and push it back into place. Really appreciate the video. It made what seemed difficult easy.
Thank you for the video. My linkage to the choke fell off when I removed the carburetor and your video helped me put it back on when I put it back together.
That's so awesome that you made a video for this. I have an O25 commercial saw. That I inherited from my dad who never took care of it. Just left it outside in the weather outside the one of our barns so it gets snow and all kinds of crap all over it. But I was grateful to get it though . Is a strong chainsaw.
This is the first time that I have watched one of your videos but it will not be the last time . I have a MS290 that I'm having trouble starting and your video was the best how to video that I have seen ... This worked for me, ordered a kit on eBay and it went just like the video. Repaired for about $15, took less than 1/2 hour. Next saw I fix will probably take 15 min. due to learning curve.
Thank you very much I just enjoyed your video (no bulshiiit/straight to the point) I just inquired one of these chainsaws, Watching your lesson was like school in session
Thanks so much for this video. I’m somewhat of a shade tree mechanic and still learning. You’ve made this project so easy with step by step instructions.
followed the steps , sorted , job done , new gas line plus filter 15 euros but also got a 250ml olive oil bottle as a Xmas gift from the Stihl spares shop , right result
Great video! I would add that I pushed the entire fuel tank sealing grommet all the way into the tank, then carefully teased it up from the top until I had a good seal.
Great video. I changed my fuel line a few years ago without taking the carb off. What a pain in the a**. My saw isn't running very good. I'm going to change a bunch of parts thanks to your video. Might even do piston and rings. I bought the saw in '95 and it has a lot of hours on it. It might be time for a rebuild. It has been a great saw.
I see replacement carb has an extra adjusting screw. I am glad this won't cause fit problems. Waiting for my parts kit. Also ordered carb rebuild kit. so perhaps I'll have a spare OEM carb. Thanks for excellent video.

But I am wanting to find me another one and I do want the 025 and I know there getting more harder to find ! Atleast no one I know of wants to part with their's. LOL !! Wonder why ? Cause,.. it is a dam good saw !! That's why !
It is easier to install and remove the carb if you remove the control lever, first. I also leave the air filter on the air box, because they are difficult to install on the air box.
I was wondering if you have a video on how to put a gas tank on the 025. My husband repairs Stihl saws but hasn't worked on the 025 much. Thank you for any information on this.
Thank you so much for making this video! Can you give me a suggestion on which aftermarket carb kit to buy and where to get it? Stihl no longer sells oem parts for my 025.
Your welcome, and I would look on Amazon because they have lots of carbs and good prices. Just type in Stihl 025 carb and see if you can match it up with one.
I have the red lever and bought a carb kit online. It came with a new air filter and now I cannot get the plastic cover to go over the air filter housing. This is a common issue apparently with the early model 025's. Do you have any idea what filter / housing combo will work on my red lever 025 that will work with my stock plastic air filter cover?
There is a clear yellowish line coming up from the gas tank on the left. Where does it go and what does it do. I was given a 025 that is missing that line. Is it the tank vent? Thanks
I found a chain saw in a garage attic of my house when I sold it and got ready to move. It was empty of gas and bar oil. I replaced fuel line, filter, igntion coil, spark plug, filter, and put a new carburetor in. I put brand new fuel mixture in. It ran for 30 seconds and then quit when I tried to rev it up and hasn’t started since. It may have flooded but I wonder if the carburator I put on it needs adjustment.
Good Video and I really needed to see yours where the return line is plugged, I thought someone had broke it off, but yours is the same I suppose that is Stihl's way on discontinuing old styles.
My O25 has the primer bulb. It cracked so I took the fuel lines off the primer and plugged them with screws. It ran fine. Next time went to use it fuel was coming out muffler. I took apart and replaced meter diaphragm with a spare I had. Put it back together, wouldn't start. I shot some starting fluid in carb and it would run on that and die. Then I noticed the nipple on the gas tank vent that has a fuel line with two venting screws(?) attached was nearly broken off. I'm in full jerry-rig mode now, so I broke the nipple off and drove in a small screw. Still won't start. Not sure if the meter diaphragm was no good or something else happened I can't see? I'm thinking of buying the tune up kit with carb and fuel line for $15? Any ideas?
You can't block the vent whole because it can't get air and will not run. I would check the filter inside the carb to see if it's blocked. I have a video on how to check it.
@@LonnieJohnson1 I actually put an o ring on the screw for the vent and didn't tighten all the way. I may have to come up with a different solution for that unless I want to buy a new fuel/oil tank. I'll look for the video you suggested about filter in carb. Thanks.
It's not the same, that's why it failed and has to be replaced. The original carb made by Stihl did not have both Hi/Low settings. The after market carb has both Hi?Low settings and can be adjusted as needed.
Spain calling , a bit skint at the moment , my old o21 chain saw refused to start, found the fuel line snapped , followed the instructions , a piece of piss , waiting to get new replacement and bobs your uncle , great post , know anything about changing a wheel bearing on a pk 125 vespa ,,,,lol
Great video! What is the brass stem next to the carburetor with the line on top?? I don't have that on mine. It was a piece of fuel line. I have a 025 a friend gave me. I would like to get up and running.
If it's the line on the left side it's an air vent for the fuel tank. Without it gas would leak out. If it's plugged air will not get to the tank and fuel would stop flowing to the carb.
I have this model saw and when i got it it seems that a lot of chain oil leaked into the case, is there a gasket or something to check? There was still a lot of oil in the chain oil compartment. Thanks
I have had many chain saws and all of them leaked oil, some more than others. There seems to be no kind of seal, it just slowly runs past the pump and out. I keep a rag under my saws just to keep the oil from getting all over the case.
I went through the same process and mine still will no start...I have good compression and I replaced the spark plug. I could use some suggestions or ideas
@@LonnieJohnson1 Poured a little gas in the carb and it almost started. The problem is I have replaced the carburetor , fuel line, filter and spark plug
Lonnie... Im going to go ahead and replace this fuel line, but I have another question. There appears to be a small piece of fuel line attached to a nipple on the tank top near the left/ port side with a screw in its end in your video. My tank has the nipple, but no piece of line to seal it off. Im wondering if my fuel leakage is occurring there when the saw it tilted. Should that nipple be sealed off as it is in this video, or is it supposed to be open to allow the tank to breathe?
Yes that is a air breather for the tank and it will leak gas from the nipple. There suppose to be a short hose with a screw in it that suppose to act like a one way valve but they don't work very well and they cost about $13. What I use is a medical grade one way valve on the end of my hose. Air goes in and nothing comes out. I also use them on my air pumps on fish aquarium. You can find them on e-Bay.
I have same model and when it is could he start good and work better but when he is could not want to start fast i change the carburator and have same problem what can be it ?
Have you had any luck with it. Something else I do is when I take off the exhaust I look down in the cylinder to check for damage on the wall of the cylinder.
What do you think is the right way? because everybody is different. I have been doing this for over 30 years and have had no issues. People pay big $$$ at the shops just to have the saw fail after a short time. Then they end up bring it to me to get it running and adjusted properly.
