  • It can be daunting taking photos of strangers, but with the right mindset, you can turn it into something very positive that spreads happiness among the community and the people you encounter. So, avoid hiding in the bushes with a zoom lens and get closer to your subjects, both physically and on an emotional level. By making that connection, your photos will be better and your subjects will be happier.

Thanks for commenting and yes indeed, gaining monetary reward from this type of photography is very difficult, but these special reactions are worth more than money.

Hi. I've just found your channel and have enjoyed listening to you, so I have now subscribed. I have been a keen amateur photographer for many years, almost exclusively 35mm. I did dabble with 120 using a Lubitel 166B sometime in the '80s. If I remember correctly it cost £14 Sterling but I only put a few rolls of film through it (it's up in the loft still).
Like many long-time snappers I moved over to digital around 2006 but I continued to have an interest in film and in recent years that interest has become much stronger, to the point that I have very recently taken the bold step of obtaining a Rolleicord Vb; currently I have my first roll of film in it (Kentmere Pan 400).
Anyway, good luck with the channel and I'm looking forward to many more of your videos.

Hi and thank you for your encouraging comments and congratulations on your new acquisition. The Rolleicord Vb is a FANTASTIC camera for the money, you will not be disappointed. And Kentmere Pan 400 is what I use most of the time. The significant cost saving for only a small sacrifice in image quality is a no brainer. Please do let me know how you get on and where I can see your photos.

I watch a huge amount of 'content' on a vast number of subjects. This is one of the best things I've seen in a while. You have a great perspective on photography, speak clearly, fluidly, naturally and take some lovely photos from what little I've seen so far. What a lovely thing to have done for that man! very thoughtful and kind. :-)

Wow, thank you! You're motivating me to do more videos after a bit of a dry period over the summer. Yes, that old man story is one of my favorites.

A massive thank you for your comment - as a fledgling UA-camr, these comments mean the world to me, it is hard at the start, struggling to get 1-2 new subscribers every few days, these comments keep me going. THANK YOU!

I've often wondered this same thing when I look back at shots I've taken I'm sure the subjects would like a copy. I once took a shot of an older lady at a book fair she was fully loaded up to her chin with books, it was good light not a bad shot of situation at all it was on digital so i walked up to her to offer to send her the shot, she went absolutely medieval on me, demanded I delete the shot, screamed at me for taking it, etc etc, I was pretty surprised at her reaction, but any attempts I made to show her the shot were met with shouts of anger so I deleted it and buggered off. Nice shot there mate.

I wonder about your perspective shooting street photography in China.
I wonder how you handle the Chinese stigma towards black and white images? Black and white images are traditionally used for individuals who have passed away. It is sometimes perceived that the black and white image is a death omen.

Yes you’re right and that’s a good point. I think it’s also depends on the style of the photograph. I’ve presented small prints to many Chinese people I’ve photographed and they’ve all seemed very pleased to receive the photo.
